Lyon invite offers for Aly Cissoko
Arsene Wenger has yet again re-iterated that he is in desperate need of a left-back that is ready to play in the Arsenal first team straight away, and the Lyon defender Aly Cissoko definitely comes into that category.
The Lyon chief Jean-Michel Aulas said yesterday: “Possible winter departures? That doesn’t mean we don’t have any more means, but we want to keep the rules we set, which is to not increase deficit,”
“The transfer of Aly Cissokho? I am rather in favour of it.
“We could hire a central defender, young, not expansive and versatile, but none of our current centre defenders will be free agents next June, and maybe in February they will all be back.”
The only big problem is that Wenger only wants to take him on loan until the end of the season, wheras Lyon want to cash in on him straight away, and are looking for 8million euros for the French international.
Surely a rich team like Arsenal could afford to bring in the 24 year-old Cissoko to provide extra competition in the back line, especially as it is so urgent to bring in a left-back right now?

Buy him he’s better than Gibbs, it would be good competition for him to challenge Cissoko for the first team place. It means we also have 3 left-backs, which means everyne can get a rest if we get another 3 games in a week, and if someone gets injured (Cissoko also isn’t as injury-prone as Gibbs and Santos).
AW, please buy him. He’s younger and better than Abidal, and better than our current left-backs when they are fit. 8 million euros is like £5 million, and that is very cheap, given our prosperous financial situation.

I’m fed up with his lame excuses and not buying big in the transfer window. It’s looking like we will not win anything again and lose out to top players again and the way it’s going we will finish hopefully in 5th or 6th as we will not get in top 4. Spurs are making us look rubbish. Wenger waits for our players to come back but they need to settle again and could even have a setback on there injuries. Wenger should buy the Lyon defender for 8 million euros and will be a bargain buy. But again he breaks our hearts and don’t buy anyone. I do think and have said it for two years that Wengers time is over and we should sack him or send him upstairs and get someone who will buy these top players
And not be scared to buy. We can’t keep buying kids either as that will not win us the league. Walcott is rubbish and ox Chamberlin should be playing all the time as he is stronger and better than Walcott. I think we will finish 6th and win nothing again but lets hope I’m wrong but I dought it.

When Wenger said he is closer to signing a left back he didnt mean cissoko. He sees Gibbs as our 1st choice left back. Why would he spend 8 million on a left back when he bought santos in the summer?

Have you asked yourself, if the club can even afford him(to cheap too) on loan.
They say that their are not many players around… to take on loan…..but with Arsenal, their are even less, because they will not pay more than x amount of money…..so if a player is being paid more than Arsenal players and the other club is not willing to pay some of the money(like Man City ) then they can not get the player.
So when most clubs are dealing with Arsenal, they would rather sell, than send their player out on loan.

Gibbs will continue to be injured, just look at his history. He has spent more time in sickbay than on the pitch. I do not care if he’s English, he’s an injury prone player costing us money and resources. I honestly do not think Gibbs even has it to cut the English squad, with Cole and other better options around he is chasing shadows. Wenger must buy Cissoko and sell Gibbs.

It’s pretty much a no brainer isn’t it.
We bought Arteta for 10 million on a four year contract taking him to the age of 33 and he is a player who has never played doe the senior national side.
We now have a chance to by a proven left back who is only 24 will cost between 5-8 million.
We need to admit that we have never repalced cashley the judas so I think it’s about time.

@Gooner I hear you, but Gibbs should have been sold a while ago. Wenger persists with these deadwood and injury prone players for far too long. I’d say if Gibbs was an outstanding LB, I would go for a loan deal and wait for his recovery. But the thing is Gibbs isn’t that good and isn’t worth the money we pay him every month to be injured. I would rather have Cissoko who can also play midfield too btw, and Santos, Miquel as our LB’s.
In my club we had this defender, who was an absolute tyrant to dribble and get away from. He was amazing in training. But when we actually played matches, he looked like a different player, scared and unsure of himself. For some reason he never came to the party. Now this is the same thing us fans might be witnessing. A player who might shine during training and impress Wenger then, but come game time he disappoints continually. This could be why Wenger persists with these deadwood players, but it is the wrong thing to do. We need players who are consistent during game time and actually make a difference.

left backs should be able to play in the right back position as well. I understand it sucks because they might be left footed but whether you are left footed or right footed should change the way you defend. Therefore we should consider all or lb & rb players as one. Personally, other than sagna we dont have any REAL quality in that position.
I think having Cissokho would mean that we could field 4 very strong, even world class players in the defence. That being Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Cissokho. Mertesacker being the third CB on the bench and having someone like Miquel to play as a 4th string cb or occasionally as a full back. In addition, we also have Yennaris, and if it ever comes to it we can play Coquelin in the lb/rb position. We should have another back up in the CB position because defenders are more likely to get suspended and if ever the case of injury. We only really have the big 3 in the back (tv5, kos, and per). Miquel and someone else (preferably a young talent, we do have bartley on loan at rangers no?). Then we would have full depth at the back. Enough to compete in all competitions and play well.

I really don’t understand Arsene Wenger sometimes. Four full-backs out, then the two replacements get injured and still no signings two weeks into the window. He’s just interested in keeping the board happy than going out and spending a few pounds on decent players and getting us back where we belong.

It is very frustrating that the club can be held ransom by an individual & or a group of individuals in the name of the board. We are half way through the season & have not yet broken through in to the top four let alone think about winning any thing this season & somebody can be so stubborn & REFUSES TO BUY.I can only equate such actions to a patient who opts to save money at the expense of his/her health when clearly the is a better option of seeking better medical attention as well as better drugs. I am torn here, can understand people getting frustrated at the board and wenger but in the other hand do think wenger is great, although is he living on past glories, is it time for a change? Oh I don’t know. What I do know is the fullback situation is terrible. Even if all were fit other than sagna would we still have top fullbacks? I see it as two young english fullbacks that need more experiance and an unfit brazilian who can’t defend. If in all comps need two players in each position and I just don’t see that in the fullback department. Don’t get me wrong gibbs and jenkinson could both be top players, but arsenal need players that ARE top players.
