Mark Hughes insists Adebayor will face Arsenal in Carling Cup

Posted on December 01, 2009 by admin

The Man City boss Mark Hughes is set to name a strong team to play the Arsenal youngsters in this weeks Carling Cup quarter-final match, and insists he will have no problem picking Emanuel Adebayor to face his old club again on Wednesday.

Arsene Wenger has already said that he will be making changes for this match, but the team is facing a third defeat in a row as Mark Hughes is going all out to win a trophy this season.

Adebayor was given a three match ban after the last meeting between the two clubs for nearly causing a riot, but Hughes doesn’t think that will affect him this time around.

“There is no feeling he won’t play as a consequence of what happened last time. In fact, he’s more likely to play because he had such a huge influence on the game,” Hughes said.

“He has made a statement about what happened before. It was an emotional time and it has been well documented and discussed at length. But it’s in the past now. I don’t think it will happen again.”

“He scored a good goal at Liverpool two weekends ago; a fantastic header,” Hughes continued.

“If he’s playing well and scoring he’s going to have an impact on this game.”

One youngster that will not be in the Arsenal team this week is Fran Merida, who was given a straight red card in a reserve match last week. Merida was impressive in the last round against Liverpool, and scored a cracking goal.

But Arsene is certain he will still play his youngsters. He said: “The League Cup is a competition that is not one of our priorities, but we go to Manchester City to win a game,”

“We’ll play our young players and some of them will play in the Champions League as well because we are already qualified.”

Adebayor is not a threat to arsenal. We shall gun you when his there. I know after loss to chelsea, i expect wenger to a void lossing this game of carling cup to Mancity by fielding a strong team than a reserve team.

AW plays more politics than football, he will pass well as politician. Until he understands that talent is the same thing as experience, Arsenal FC will continue without trophies.

  5. Joe says:

Adebayor to crush Arsenals tiny tot defence and once more show Wenger how naive he has been in not splashing on a real replacement or a decent back up to suplement Robin (i am actually made of glass) Van Pervy.

I will enjoy Arsenals breakdown this year more than most :)

  6. Deakh Ali says:

I don’t think Man City is a big Team becouse we know what Man City is, but there is an opportunity becouse Arsenal manager Arsen Wenger announced that this League Cup is not tarket for Arsenal.
