Max: Wenger’s FOUR options for Nasri (All bad for Arsenal)

Samir Nasri Situation Has No Upside by Max Baker

Arsenal FC are in a very interesting and very disheartening situation following the recent developments in the Samir Nasri saga. As many of us know Nasri is demanding an outrageous £120,000 a week as where Arsenal have so far only offered £90,000 a week. Which begs the question how is Nasri supposed to feed his family on £90,000 a week? Just kidding, but in all seriousness Nasri really has Arsenal backed into a pretty tight corner with this whole thing and at the moment he is holding all the cards.

As of right now there is absolutely nothing stopping Nasri from moving to Manchester United if he really wants to. All it would take is a quick meeting with Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis in which he says, “sell me to Manchester United now or I go there on a free next year.” Gazidis would tell Arsenal majority-owner Stan Kroenke about the meeting and Nasri would be sold before sundown. Kroenke is a business man in the purest sense of the word and there is no way he would let one of his top assets leave in exchange for nothing.

So the way I see it Arsenal have four options. Option one is you sell Nasri to Manchester United for whatever they’re willing to pay (probably half of what he is really worth), option two is you try to sell him to the highest bidder and hope he doesn’t block the move, option three is you keep him around this year and he probably leaves on a free before the 2012/2013 season, and option four is you give him the £120,000 a week he wants to keep him at the club.

Now I personally am not fond of any of these options but if I had to pick one it would be option four. As much as I hate to reward someone for acting like a huge prima donna it is essential that we keep Samir Nasri out of the hands of one of our biggest Premier League rivals at any cost.

Wenger should have signed him down much earlier. Anyone who has 2 yrs left on their contract must sign of be sold. AW is just hopeless in some areas of management. No way should we lose money on this transfer. We signed him for 12million and he’s a much better player now.

To lose Fab and Nas would be the end for Arsenal and on AW is to blame for this predicament as he is the manager. Why he didn’t buy a quality GK and CB last year is beyond most normal people.

…Alternatively……….pay him $120,000 a week! how much do the directors earn a week?

    Let me manage Arsenal!!!!

  6. arsenalover, nigeria says:

why do you refer to his demand for 120 pounds a week as outrageous? Samir’s skill is comparable to anyones in the big clubs. The problem is that ur coach has failed to support him with equally gifted and adventurous players. Again, you refer to manutd as one of your greatest rivals. Arsenal is not even competitive so is not a rival to united. I thought that you have known this by now. Arsenal is just a participant. My prediction: wenger wont give him 120 and wont sell either. Samir will leave for free next season. Remember, wenger is deluded.

Nasri is a very good player but I guess we are just over-rating him. He can be good but not irreplaceable..he had a great first half of last year. Second half he was very ordinary… do we lose all our self-esteem just to cling on someone who is good but not GREAT

  8. Charlie says:

Option 5, keep him for another year but ensure that he gets a broken leg in training. Ok, that’s perhaps a bit extreme. To be honest he’ll never succeed at United anyway. Nani and Valencia provide many more assists than him plus he is a timid little boy who will cry when Ferguson shouts at him. Sell him to United, get good money for him and then watch him fail like every other player that Arsene ever sold. He was useless for half of the season, why do we care if he goes to United.

I think Sammi Nasri has proved to us that there is no loyalty as far as players are concerned even when they have been given the opportunity. There is no doubt at all that Nasri would not have been where he is today had it not been for Wenger. Wenger gave him the opportunity and he now wants to turn and bite the hand that feeds him. The best option is to tie him down to a contract like Fabregas and then let him go on a good fee at the end of next season especially if he does not perform because we know that more money does not always translate to better players. But if he does perform, we will have one good player on 120,000 a week. The increase must be pegged on performance. Nasri only had moments of brilliance and although people say he is a lovely player, I believe that he can either be better or that we have actually seen the best of what he can be and if that is the case, its not good enough because he totally lacks consistency that can last a whole season.

I`ve been following the Gunners for well over sixty years and most of that time I considered myelf a supporter but money changed all that.
If I were still working there is no way on God`s earth I would pay the ticket prices now being asked out of my meagre income to pay Nasri ,or anyone else, 100K a week to kick a ball around. It`s immoral. Considering we`re told 60% goes in tax means he only has 40K a week to live on.

Sell the little rat, then buy a decent player. Why is everyone banging on about how good he is? He had a great start to the season but part of the reason we won nothing this year was because he was found wanting at the business end of the season. He does not care about arsenal, he’s another one that would be happy to shit on the club as long as he gets his two bob’s worth. He’s a scumbag even contemplating manure at this stage. We need players who have the pride to play for our mighty team, and who have the passion to give everything. Shammy nasri is not one of the players. Time wenger got in some english players with a bit of passion, and forget how much they cost…

Petit, Vieira, Henry, Hleb, Pires, Anelka, Overmars, Ljungberg, Campbell, Toure, Adebayour need i go on ???? They all had their best years at Arsenal and faded into obscurity afterwards. The only one who did well was Cashley and it was hardly much of a move for a Londoner to go from North London to West London. He’s an example of someone who doesn’t know how easy he has life at Arsenal and he won’t cope anywhere else. The most similar player in recent years was Hleb and look what happenned to him !

You should all realize Nasri ad Chamakh had a great season until Wenger decided to field RVP and Fabregas instead.
Worst is that with the right formation he can field them all together.
Nasri asking for what Fabregas earns (actually Fab earns more, and played less… is just normal after 3 years. He’s one of the best attacking midfielder, and you all argue about 40 or 30k more? It’s like Wenger refusing to add 2 millions to sign players.

To and fro movements by loan spells. A total waste in Bir city also. It is a fact that no one vil flourish after leaving arsenal. Flamini is another xample. Pay his wages, sign top quality players, show him that we are intent on winning trophies…..footballers need to see the club is ambitious, that’s why the players at arsenal are getting disheartened because they see Chelsea signing Torres and David luiz, Liverpool signing Suarez and Carroll, man utd signing top players in the past, and arsenal signing 2nd rate squad players like squillaci, denilson and so on…so I say give nasri what he wants and show him and cesc that we are going to be ambitious and show a real intention of winning some trophies and not over achieving like we have done for the last 6 years, because in my personal opinion that’s what we have done, our team is nowhere near as good as we where the last time we won a trophy, so finishing within the CL spots has been the best we could of asked for the last 6 years.

  29. Dan says:

How huge is our transfer budget? Pretty massive, and I for one would like to see a tiny bit of it spent on keeping key players, like Nasri. Especially seeing as wenger will never spend even half our budget.
You guys don’t seem to realise that Nasri in all likelihood doesn’t want to go to Man U, but he and his agent are not stupid, he has chosen the name of a rival club, who are more successful (like it or not), who could pay him more, and who would be prepared to buy him. He could hate Manchester and everything about the scum, but he has done his homework and this makes his threat credible, meaning Wenger has to listen to his demands. There is no other reason this is the club he is being linked with, it could be some Spanish or Italian team, the reasons would be the same.
As someone said before, rooney did this to the tune of £250k at man united, if we’re getting away with less than half that for Nasri I’m happy. Given he’s probably the 3rd best player at the club (I’m talking sale value here so no arguments) after Fabregas and RVP, it’s fine to put him on wages that high, IMO.
Football is a market economy, and Arsenal don’t pay the going rate. What do players get for not earning the going rate? Certainly not trophies. You can argue all you like about Arsenal being the best team to play at, I’m sure some players play for what they do at Arsenal because Arsene was the first manager to give them a decent first team run, and he made them grow, but there is only so much of a wage deficit you can expect players to stand, and IMO, it’s too high. Pay the man his money, and do it fast, before he gets any serious ideas about leaving.

The other thing to add is that, who is in charge of making sure Nasri signs a new deal before the last year of his contract, so that he isn’t in a position to do this to us?
    That’s right, the manager.
The only reason Nasri is in a position to do this is because Wenger didn’t do this a year ago. The money should come out of Wenger’s wages!
If we’d got Nasri to sign a contract extension before this season just gone, where he played very well, we’d have probably got away with offering him lower wages anyway. And surely the sensible thing is to offer the contracts earlier, seeing as players like him, at his age, only get better (and thus more valuable), not worse.

OPTION 5 …. Arsenal Fans can realise that Anyone earning over 50k a week has to pay 60% Tax.

OPTION 6 …. Arsenal Fans intelligent enough to understand Option 5 can realise that 60% for 90k is TAX of £54,000 -> Yes, Nasri will be taking home £36,000 per week after tax … the equivalent of a reserve player.

It disgusts me hearing fans speak of greed while being this ignorant.

The 120K Nasri wants is very reasonable for a player of his worth. He’ll only be taking home £50,000 per week – which is better than the £36,000 he’ll be have if he accepts Arsenal’s 90k offer.

Nasri is one of the potential players Arsenal has to maintain them. Pay him that money otherwise he goes to a club that will pay him better.Arsenal doesnt motivate her players well that’s why big and experienced players are not ready playing in this club. The management has to work on that otherwise all players will be taken by other clubs and providing them with better payment.

Also, Wenger has to resign for making Arsenal just participating in football competitions with no trophes at all.IN FACT Wenger has nothing to change the club to win the trophs, all his skills are now outdated as they proved failure to win the games. He has reached a point of no return so he has to go off the club and let Nasri stays in a club.

Arsenal1again your absolutely right. Players will no doubt want more wages as a result of the increase in tax. I don’t blame nasri for trying it! The worrying thing about all this is that I think we all now know nasri is not that loyal. I remember when he first signed for us he mentioned arsenal is a good club to improve as a player before moving to a bigger club!
Why did wenger not get him to sign the contract in the earlier parts of the season when he was happy and in form! It’s been a complete cock-up really and once we have another summer of trying to hang on to some of our best players!
It does seem wenger and arsenal are really struggling when buying players and re-negotiating contracts, other clubs don’t seem to have the level of difficulty that we have!

In response to ‘gary’ who seems mistaken about offshore banks ….

What money are you talking about? The money received by the players is already taxed before they get it, like any other non self-employed worker in the UK. He is an employee of Arsenal FC. The employer deducts his tax and gives it to the inland revenue.

I guess everyone in the UK is as dumb as me, because otherwise we would all be having our wages paid in offshore bank accounts. No, I’m not going down to your level to start insulting you back. Your post does that for me.

Any player earning over 50k in the UK is paying 60% tax. What I said above is how it is, and it highlights exactly why Nasri is NOT being greedy. It also tells you were the money is going, the money we get from transfers which isn’t being used to buy players. It’s used to pay the REAL amount being earned by players.

Nasri just wants a bigger slice of pie since it’s going to have all the filling ripped out before it reaches his mouth. The inland revenue is forcing players to leave the shores of the UK to earn in a year what they would at Arsenal in 3 years. Only United, City and Chelsea could negate the tax by paying him 120k+ …. or we can too by using the money gained from selling a player.

You believe what you want Gary.

    hi cat
these players are not individuals – they are corporate entities
any monies that the entity raises through endorsements – appearances – image rights – television and even heaven forbid playing football are paid to a corporation
    which is sited off offshore
how the salary cake is apportioned and to where and in what quantity is a matter purely of conjecture
i don’t just believe this to be true…it is

this situation is simple to solve and very similar to the rooney situation…

    here’s what will happen

arsenal will agree to the ridiculous 120,000 a week demands from Nasri.
by doing this they will extend his contract for another 5 years or so therefore he can no longer leave for free..
however in year or 2 the bids will start and he will be sold for 40 or 50 million..

now thats not a bad business plan…

(the same will probly happen to rooney)

Ino he is bein greedy askin for the extra 30k bt lets be honest in modern football he would be offered that easily by any of the top 5 clubs in the country… Its a shame there isnt any real commitment anymore bt lets be honeat in football it isnt stupid amount of money we would hav to pay that to sign someone of the same quality anyway….

  63. B Gonner says:

If we give him a new 3 or 4 year contract for 120K pw that is only 1.5 million extra for the next year. Then we can flog him next summer for double what he is worth today. If we don’t give him what he wants now it will cost more in the long run to replace him.
