Now Arsenal REALLY need a defender in January…..
I am sure that Arsenal could survive by not buying another defender in January, but after today’s news that Andre Santos is set to be on the treatment table for at least three months, it is time for Wenger to think seriously.
I said today that Arsenal need Santos back ASAP, but now I have to say that Wenger needs a rethink.
It’s great that all four centre-back are not injured (for a change!) and can cover for the right- and left-backs, but if one of Vermaelen, Koscielny or Djourou get a knock the Gunners defence could fall apart really quickly.
And it is no use saying that Gibbs will be back by February becase we all know he won’t last two minutes before he’s injured again.
Wenger has been stubborn in the past, but surely he must realise how serious the situation is now? Especially as Santos got injured in a game that Wenger shouldn’t have played ANY first-choice players, never mind about our depleted defensive line-up…..
Will Wenger do the sensible thing and repair the damage?

He needs to buy without question.
Not only because we are short on numbers at the back, but to keep up our form and winning run! Any injuries to any of our back 4 then we are bang in trouble.
And even when the other defenders do come back, it won;t hurt to have good defenders fighting for places for once.
A defender and a striker in January are needed Mr.Wenger!

i think alex from chelsea would be great you know vermealen cover lb koscielny rb and per and alex central .if somebody gets injured djouruo can step in .Plus sagna is on his way back proly next month so,and weve got song that can sttep in centre back if needed ,.ì think alex and were ok,plus santos will get back and gibbs so buying is not always the best solution ,but were gonna miss gervino so hope oxlade steps in .

Vertonghen!! He’s a CB, a LB and a DM… That’s all we need!
Then ONE top class youngster: Gôtze, Reus, Hazard, Pato, Shaqiri, Jovetic, Wellbeck…
Our squad is quiet rich already, and full of promises, no revolution is going to happen. We don’t need a huge clean up, we need adjusments and optimisation.
According to me our weaknesses can be solved by versatility. That’s why Vertonghen seems to fit in the squad so well.
We need a creative attacking midfielder, a winger and a striker. My choice would be to buy Reus because he’s the only one in my list that I consider able to assume those three roles.
And he’s one of the less expensive…
And he’s not 19… he has experience already.
That’s it, two players in and maybe two or three out (squillaci will be the first… ). We could add strengh without breaking what has been built since the beginning of this year.

OK, it’s a bad news but let’s face it rationnaly:
The transfer window will open in January. by then, the Right back problem would be solved since We have Jenkinsson who will be ready to play this week or newt week. and we have Sagna who would be ready to play by the end of this month.
So By January, we will have as Defenders:
Sagna, Jenkinson, Per, Kos, Djourou, Vermaleen, Miquel and maybe Gibbs (since He was 4 weeks out in Nov 24th)
This is 8 defenders by beginning of January.
AW won’t buy and he have to manage the situation till then.
The most critical thing is the 4 coming games where he have to play with 5 fit defenders!
And don’t forget one thing too, Song can play as a CB too

Wenger will not buy a defender. Miquell and verma can cover that position – as well as song and djourou; plus sagna, jenkinson and gibbs are not far from a return.
If wenger bought a new defender where would that leave us? with 6 cbs or 4 left backs or 3 right backs?
And most of those players are of similar quality, they would all want to play – it is not feasible
Verma and kos are starters … with verma covering on the flanks, mert or djourou get games … thats a good set up for now. Soon sagna will be back, then gibbs … then you have mert and djourou on the bench, although wenger will rotate with mert getting more games. The squilachi as 5th choice is waiting in line.
Losing santos was a blow but it is highly unlikely wenger will get a replacement left back of great quality as 1. santos will be back and 2. it would kill of gibbs and miquell
It will be a striker or nothing with jack and abu coming back from injury.

stop jumping the gun only to be disappointed please look at the facts.
apart from santos and gibbs arsenal have many players who can cover that position. vermaelen also frimpong, angha and miquel can cover as emergency. my guess is vermaelen is now our left back for the next 3 months with miquel as his deputy.
le stubborn wouldnt fork out money to buy a player that easily.
unless they all fail but thats unlikely as frimpong and miquel as desperate to play, they will try hard to impress wherever they are asked to play.

Hello fellow gooners. I’m gutted to lose Santos, he’s already becoming a fan favourite with his attacking play and finesse. Anyway we must move on to City, and I would field this XI : Szczesny, Djourou, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Vermalean, Song, Arteta, Ramsey, Walcott, Van Persie, Gervinho. With a subs bench of : Almunia ( hence Fabianski and Mannone are still injured), Miquel, Frimpong, Rosicky, Benayoun, Arshavin, Park. Elz. Gooner till I die.

Having players coming back doesn’t mean anything if they go out injured within a few games. We need depth at those positions and the only way we are gonna have that for the run out is to buy a couple quality, experienced players.
You can’t predict when someone is gonna suffer a major injury and any prudent manager should always have his squad prepared as if an injury is definitely going to happen, not hope that they don’t or if it does it will be minor and “so and so can cover till he gets back”. That type of thinking doesn’t lead to titles.

I would be surprised if we sign anyone.
Look at the facts –
1. Who, realistically could we sign in January? Vertonghen? maybe, but he himself is not an out and out LB. I rate him highly, but I see him in more of a central role, either CB or DM. He is not a solution to LB.
2. Gibbs, Jenkinson, and Sagna return from injury in 2 to 3 weeks. That is just before the January transfer window. (Sagna maybe a bit longer, perhaps end of January) We would then have all defenders fit, except for Santos.
We have some tough games coming up, but if we can hold our own, we won’t need any new LB’s or RB’s, in this position we are well stocked.
I do however raise the point that in LW & ST we are lacking in numbers. Ryo, Gervinho and Arshavin yes, but we all know Arshavin is non effectual in this position, and ryo has masses of potential but he is raw.
In ST RVP, Chamakh and Park yes, but Chamakh we all know is so low on confidence it beggars belief, and will be away for up to 6 weeks in the African Cup. And it seems Park is just a name, he never plays!

Gooners let us not panic! We have TV5 to cover LB (surely we can’t be that unlucky that he picks knock too). We have JD/Koc/Per to complete the back four. We hope to have Jenkinson back after the City game! Sagna early January and Gibbs late January. Jack and Diaby by end of January. F******k it who are we kidding, we are playing with fire and the house money.lol. Back to the matter at hand City game? I for one want Ramsey to be benched for Rosicky this game only. I will even go so far as to play Arshavin in the middle. Arshavin has close control, more pace, experience, and goal scoring. He can make City pay for mistakes! and open space when they try to attack in the flanks, Ramsey can’t simply put. More wasted opportunities, not taking advantage of Gervinho dribbling, Theo’s pace, and Robin Van Persie movements will mean an ugly away lost again. Ramsey and Arteta are essentailly the same player (Arteta has more experience helps the possession game and Ramsey has his adavantages). But we need a difference maker out of one of them. They can sub for each other.

We need vertongen. Would be class. Covers a lof of positions aswell. Also need a left footed winger when gervinho goes to the african cup of nations. Arshavin and miyaichi are the only left sided attackers we have and they are right footed. Podolski would be ideal and wouldnt break the bank.

All the left and right backs are out with lenghty injuries and this is not an issue to contemplate on but one that needs a decisive action.We know Wenger will want to wait for the return of Gibbs by depending on Miguel.This will fail will absolute calamity.Gibbs is too prone to injury why Miguel is not experienced for the league yet.The defence is already depleted and any additional injury will be the end to the little hope for the league.The only way out is to buy or loan an experienced defenders urgently.Even though we obviously need another striker to support R V P,the defence is of absolute importance now.

We can deal without Santos. But the wing back situation is getting worse. Ferguson wont buy wing backs in January because we don’t need them. We’ve got Miquel and verm can fill in for a while. Miquel maybe isn’t the most experienced but it will give him more experience. Man city is only one match and they will be shaken after losing to Chelsea anyway. RVP is the best!

What a way to start my day with such news. I really like Santos and hope that he will be back soon but we can only pray. I dont think AW will buy a 3rd left back but he might settle for a player on loan. Whatever he does it must happen as soon as the transfer window opens.
As for Man $ity, they are nothing more than a collection of overpaid players and Chelsea showes that last night. They also struggled to beat the young gunners. Song and Arteta will have to give more than their best next week. More importantly our back 4 must hold (i know that Djouru will not dissapoint on the day) and we should play the Arsenal way.

We have the best youth system in the EPL and yet we never see any of the youngsters in the first XI.
Miquel has had a great summer and looked solid everytime he has come on. He and Yennaris need to be rewarded for the work they are putting in before they decide to look for alternative teams. The same goes for Sanchez Watt. He has been on fire since last year during his stint at Leeds but has not seen even 5 minutes when Chamakh and Park seem to have fallen out of favoour.
Vertoghen would be an excellent addition to the team, but do we really need to buy?

Wenger tends to put off til tomorrow what he really should do today and, like most procrastinators, it works most of the time. If you make a decision and it goes wrong it hard to explain away, on the other hand if you let providence take it`s course you can look like a hero.
January is band-aid time not squad building time so don`t expect too much.

wenger wont buy anyone in january..its his policy..he said he doesnt believe its of any benefit. He will shuffle the pack and put right-footers at left back, he will put chamakh there if he feels like it. Wenger is like the guy with a spare tyre running on his car with no new spare to cope with another puncture. Thats one of the reasons we slip every year its because of his tight-fisted no contingency plan attitude. We have the basis of a very good side but wenger feels that a big QUALITY squad is too costly for his padlocked wallet.

The chezzer situation was forced on wenger. Wenger kept telling the world how good fabianski was (looking at him in non-combat training!)We all knew he was crap. Chezzer was moaning that he wanted a chance and there was even a rumour that he wanted to leave us. Fabianski got injured so wenger put him in. It was no choice on wengers part, he had to put him in. Chezzer looked the part for brentford on loan. Most who saw him perform knew he was better than almunia and flapper, wenger got lucky that circumstances worked out for him.

“Chezzer” shortly after stating his desire to play first team football for Arsenal or leave, subsequently signed a new 4 year deal at Arsenal.
Wenger must have said something that convinced him, he was in the short term and long term future of Arsenal F.C. It may not be down to Arsene that he got into the first team as early as he did, but Arsene did keep him here in the first place.

yes i doubt wenger since his failure to build a proper defense when adams dixon nige and sol retired. Ive doubted wenger’s bottle in the transfer market..when the price goes up a few million he gets his arrogant mood on and pulls out(reference c ronaldo 13 million). ive doubted the squillacci, cygan silvestre transfers….the way clichy and nasri walked out(its not just money). Ive doubted his lack of a plan B…..the way birmingham actually believed they were going to beat us by using a useless “giant” of a striker to upset our weak defense.Ive become cynical about his money-making obsession in the transfer markets. We always make a profit at the expense of quality players…..no other club does that…they usually overspend. You can Be happy with the economics. i would rather see a great arsenal team challenging at the top. Yes i doubt wenger and i wont be even part convinced untill we win something.

I think arsenal should offload Arshavin,chamack,squillaci, almunia,rosicki,even fabianski. and go for new experience goal keeper,then lucas podolski,mario gotse,jan vertogen,leighton baines,and loan david villa from barcelona or look for new striker, that will solve our problem, even if all injured player back dat means we have two strong team and no one can stop us wining dis season.
