Now Arsenal worried about losing Walcott and Vermaelen
The Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie has made it clear that he will not make any decisions about his future at the Emirates until next summer, but he is not the only one approaching the dreaded 12 month mark in their contracts.
Today it has been revealed that Ivan Gazidis has instructed his executive Richard Law to begin talks with both Thomas Vermaelen and Theo Walcott next month, to try and get some new deals agreed before the January transfer window comes around.
Vermaelen has hardly played a competitive game for the Gunners in over a year, but Wenger is hoping that he will return to full fitness in the next couple of weeks, and although Walcott also spends a lot of time on the treatment table his occasional brilliant performances have attracted attention from various quarters, especially Juventus, according to recent reports.
Arsenal are hoping to nip any further rumours developing by tieing both players down to new extended contracts before the New Year. We are already guaranteed that there will be whispers about Van Persie’s future right up until the end of the season, and if Walcott and Vermaelen also refuse to commit themselves the media will have a field day……

seems that the media have only Arsenal players that have time running out on existing contracts…
every player – at every team – is counting down towards ‘contract-end’
yet we are constantly spotlighted and the intentions of our players drawn into question
its the constant drip-drip-drip of speculation that shows that we are targeted in an attempt to undermine the team….with a view to ‘spice up’ the product
they are itching the freshen up the usual big 4 ending to the season – and have singled out us

All players at Arsenal are easily replaceable the problem is that we have a STINGY manager and the BOARD who will not reinvest the funds in the team. This club is moving backwards.

Nothing scares me anymore. I love the payers, but they have their own lives to live. Any player who thinks leaving is the best option should so do. We, Arsenal, have come a long way. Problems are phenomenal; sometimes they come to effect a great change (I pray a change occurs in Arsenal for good).
There are players I would not desire to leave the club, players like Theo and Vermaelen — RVP in particular. However, what can fans like me do? I hope the board and Wenger will do the right thing.

The Board must go and let the club be run for football first and business second. You can’t have a club solely run for profits when you have no decent players!!! Is this the demise of the mighty ARSENAL??? I certainly hope not.

It’s about time that contracts returned to what they were supposed to mean……a written agreement between two parties over a set period of time. It is quite ludicrous that these days, the ink has barely dried before steps are taken to re-negotiate better terms. Agents are one of the the main culprits IMO.
In the background, however, lurks the real instigators, those behind Bosman, who are responsible for swapping slavery for near total free rein by players.
Some commonsense is badly needed at the top of football’s
governance, please and quickly.

I honestly dont care about Theo, Vermaelen, Song and RVP contracts need to be sorted out and extended without any further ado. I dont care what the increase in wages would be these 3 are quint essential and we need them at any cost. Theo he has been given ample and more chances with hardly any results, if it is a good offer, sell him.

I think RVP and co will stay so long as the manager and the board show intent by making sensible signings in January and next summer. From the looks of who they tried to sign in the summer I think the right intention was there, they just need to get the negotiations right and close out the deals. Let hope they learn from these mistakes and that this is the only season of discontent. If they repeat the same things next season, it is time to unleash the axe.

although it would be wonderful if they extended, i cant help but think that Arsenal are trying to rob young players of their youth years.
frankly, i think Arsenal need to earn their place in the hearts of both the players and the fans. if Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal board dont wake up, then i dont believe Arsenal deserve to keep their top players and their loyal fans

people say that wenger is stingy, but when you are only given some amount of money to spend, you would definitely try to find the best value for your money.. people were judging wenger when he bought AOC for 15M, but it seems like wenger is doing the right thing.. gazidis is useless, n kroenke is xxxx…

Wenger and the board need to splash out in Jan, buy at least 2 or 3 world class players. I read the stadium still needs to be paid off (97 million) so we need to get rid of some players to cover our new buys. (That money we got from the Fabnas deal I’m sure went to paying off debt) Djoure, Squillaci, Diaby, Arshavin must be sold. Even if Walcott goes I do not mind, we can sell him for a good price and in turn buy a better player. (We have the Ox and he is better than Walcott anyway). I would buy 2 new defenders and a midfielder. I also read that Gazidis said himself that he does not know where this wage structure limit rumor comes from. If we are going to keep players like RVP and Song, we need to increase their wages. So for once I wish the board and directors would put their money where their mouth is. If wages are not a problem, bump them up ffs and keep our good players at AFC. Then please just spend some money on players we desperately need. Cahill, Vertonghen, Hazard or M’vila.
