Olympiakos defeat showed us who needs to leave Arsenal this January
The 3-1 humbling to Olympiakos is Greece in the last group match of the Champions League was a match full of frustration for some Arsenal players. It shows that they may have to leave during the January winter transfer window in 2012 as they just don’t look like they are interested in playing well for Arsenal.
Marouane Chamakh: A horrible performance from the tall Moroccan. Chamakh was literally pushed around by the Olympiakos defence. Though it must be said that Olympiakos were a very physical side on the night and were very determined to make it to the knockout stages, Chamakh was just pure disappointing and was a shadow of the player that he was at the start of last season. At most, he has one or two more chances before he reaches the Arsenal exit door.
Sebestian Squillaci: Another horrendous display from the Frenchman. He only played because Koscielny and Mertesacker needed rest time. At times, it was like Vermaelen was the only centre half on the pitch for Arsenal. Surely Squillaci will no longer be an Arsenal player come January.
Vito Mannone: Terrible play from the young Italian goalkeeper. He does not even come close to Szczesny in goal. Did a scissors kick in attempt to clear the ball instead of catching it simply was one of his errors. Maybe a loan spell for the young Italian in January?
Andrei Arshavin: Another frustrating night for the Russian. Arsenal fans are getting impatient already with the little ex-maestro. However, Wenger seems to think that there is just so much more to Arshavin so maybe he will still stay with the Gunners.
After all is said and done, there were still positives from the Olympiakos match. Yossi Benayoun has proved what he could do with a solid performance and a well taken volley goal. Thomas Vermaelen once again shows what an important player he is to Arsenal. Alex Chamberlain also proved that he has what it takes to perform at the highest level.

Certainly Squillaci should go, no one will doubt that. If they do, they are blind.
Arshavin has a lot to prove to the fans he is still interested. If the fans aren’t on his side, it will be nearly impossible for him to improve. He doesn’t seem like the kind of character to fight for that. I’m 80% decided on saying he should go.
Mannone is a difficult one, he has shown immense ability. His age is on his side. In the Olimpiakos match he came on for an injury which is tough, and hadn’t played for some time. The team played atrocious, so was that match his fault? A loan may be a good solution, but in the long term its safe to say he won’t replace Szczesny as No.1. So maybe he should find first team football elsewhere. Perhaps in the summer to give us time to find a No.2.
I have no clue what’s happened to Chamakh. He looked like a gem, and since then he looks like a ghost. It’s a shame, though I still believe Wenger will give him time. He loves proving people wrong. I’d say at a pinch, he would be considered to be sold in the summer, but I doubt it somehow….regrettably.
The squad in general is playing wonderfully at the moment, but there are 3 or 4 individuals who either don’t work at Arsenal, have lost all confidence, or just don’t care…I trust Wenger will know what to do.

Chamakh shounldnt be sold off in the January Window. Let him play in the African Cup of nations, regain some confidence and give him another chance. Anyhow judging by his current form he wouldnt reap a high transfer fee.

Chamakh and Djourou should be kept as squad players. There is no room for Squillacci playing as he does..he just creates panic as does Fabianski..they are not up to the standard. Arshavin can go as the Ox is ready to step up. Diaby and Rosicky are expensive sick notes. I thought Almunia had gone. Mannone is not calm enough to be a commanding goalkeeper

Djoure, Squillaci are clowns and would suit a circus more than a football club. If Arsenal want to be title contenders you cannot have shenanigans in defense. The two have cost us games. Also I really think we should sell Arshavin while the iron is still hot. Anzi offered 25m for him. Dortmund wanted 30m for Gotze. I see that as a no brainer. Although they play slightly different positions, Gotze would be a remarkable addition to our squad. We have no room for sloppy, lazy players like Arshavin. Rather play Ryo in his place. A faster, tricker and more importantly hearty left winger (second ofcourse to Swervinho). Also we have 9 midfielders. I really think Denilson and Diaby must go too, to make room for Gotze if we decide to buy him. Denilson was terrible right from the get go, and Diaby too inconsistent, injury prone and hangs onto the ball far too long. He’s ok going forward, but not good enough overall. Chamakh must be sold too. He has a good attitude, but his style does not suit our style of play. I would rather play Vela.

We need players who will compete for first team spots and push the team to perform week in week out….Squallci offers nothing but a body to the squad and I’d like to see he go.
Arshivan has been a disgrace for well over a year now and again needs to be shown the door but we need to bring in someone with Gervinho going to the ANC.
Chamakh was pretty woeful lets not forget these players are fresh I didnt see much determination from the above three to make an impression or make Wenger team selection diffcult???.
I also thought Djourou was shocking when he should be really stepping up.
Lastly as for Mannone he is young made a howler no question its my undertsanding he is going on loan in January lets see what happens it will be hard for him to make it at Arsenal with Szcznesy being so young and No 1 already.

tough times and choices for wenger ahead, to many players for what ever reason are either going backwards or not progressing. im not one for calling for heads to roll or singiling out players but i think its getting to a point where many of the youngsters are being held back by underperforming players that wenger persists with.
this team is wengers creation and its upto him how to respond, i would just hate for the promising youth to suffer (like ryo and lansbury) and keeping hold of players that offer little to be wengers downfall. its stick or twist for atleast half a dozen players and i just hope wenger makes his move before its to late ,IE NO TOP FOUR FINISH AND ANOTHER MASS EXODUS NEXT SUMMER AND THE PLAYERS WE ARE NOT CONFIDENT WITH ACTUALLY BECOMING THE ONLY ONES LEFT NEXT SEASON.

I love how hardly anyone ever says Arshavin must go but he’s been bollocks for almost 2 years now yet they’re so quick to send Chamakh out. At least Maurone puts in 110% even if he gets naught. I’d rather have someone who gives their all everytime, even if he’s not getting results for it than someone who might theoretically put in a world class display for one day and then nothing again for the next 364 days.

I do not understand why people want Arshavin to stay?
He is absolutely rubbish, it’s like having 10 men on the field when he is playing and seems like he is not interested in playing football anymore so he needs to go ASAP along with Squillaci, Chamakh, Diaby(INJURY PRONE 100% not going to get any better), Bendtner and Denilson which should bring in quite a few £ maybe £35-45 million? then along with the money we already have invest it in World Class Striker, Winger and Left Back which is all we need.
We have some cracking young players to carry this club forward (Wilshere, Ramsey, OX, Frimpong, Szczesny, Walcott, Ryo, Jenkinson and Joel Campbell) along with some great senior players we have already and the World Class players we need Arsenal will be a force to reckon with next season thats for sure.

Djourou and squillaci have consistently let our team down by very poor defensive work. Arsenal are a top club these players could maybe do fine at mid table team. Arshavin is lazy and has a poor attitude, i think we should sell him now while we can still get something for him. Chamahk looked very good but has ended up being a flop – maybe it just isnt meant to be. I heard PSG wanted him for 10mil – if that is even near the amount i would sell immediately as he was a free transfer. bendtner, denilson definitely out. Need a better back up keeper. Have to buy gotze _ missing that creative flair in the mid. We also need another big player to sign to convince rvp we have real intent for the future. podolski, pato, saldado, luuk de jong etc

I know these seem like really expensive and extravagant buys but money and a player should secure most of these. For example 20million + Rosicky and Bedtner for Goetze. Or in the case of Hazard (Arshavin and Squillachi or Diaby), Neymar (Dinilson and Wellington (loan) or Pedro Da Silva).
We should state our intent to win the double next season and go about it by buying young but top notch stars. Inserting large buyout clauses as well is key and I believe we should have a smaller squad with more quality.

Hello fellow gooners. I know the Olympiakos game was very hard to watch for all of us. To be frank, It was a shambles ( defensively especially) I definitely think it’s time for Squid to move on and find another club. As for Chamakh, I think he’s starting to blow his chance now. It’s not as if Wenger hasn’t given him enough games to prove himself! How good was he in that period last season when Van Persie was out?! I think your all with me when I say we want the big, greasy haired Moroccan to find some form. Slightly off topic, how good was Yossi’s goal! I truly hope we can secure him long term, he’s a great squad player, whose also very versatile. Elz. Gooner till I die. ( let’s all laugh at ManCH5ster! )

Wenger has said that he is ready to spend £25 million on a single player, he tried to buy Gotze and M’Vila, He offered a package of something like £30-£35 million during the summer but was rejected due to the late timing of the bid, I think the deal may still happen which is why wenger made the comment. M’vila is too expensive, arsenal offered a package apparently of just over £20 million (25 million euros) but asking for 30 million euros.
I think wenger is considering Podolski and Gotze. Podolski isn’t priced at £20 million as some papers say because Cologne are trying to tie him down to a new contract, I thinkl £12 million or a £15 million package should be ok.
Overall, I think gotze wants to come but also waited to see how the season with dortmund would go. No champions league, however i think that if dortmund stay in the title race its probably at the end of the season. If that happens then arsenal will probably miss out if a big club decides to reshuffle their squad.
We still may sign M’vila. I think maybe if we don’t buy gotze then Marco Reus OR Marvin Martin in the summer is a possibility.

i dont think we need to buy many players, we already have a massive squad the problem is wenger would never actually play half of them, like eggs hes to scaired to take outta the box. we could offload half a dozen players actually give younsters game time and still have a bigger squad by virtue of how many of the players wenger will actually use.
we have something like a 35 man squad but wenger will only trust less than half of them to actually start a pl match. this has been a massive problem for years and its why players have stagnated and why so many injuries strike as he relies to heavilly on to few. i cant believe knobody else realises this? its the root cause of 99% of our problems and failures over the last 6 years.
and yes id still get goetze and podolski or simalar forward.

The players on all these lists make me laugh , do these people know anything about arsenal . I would be shocked if arsenal landed someone like hazard or goetze as we are not the only club interested and would get blown away in any bidding war . Money talks now , more than the promise of first team football or sadly being coached by wenger . A few players will leave but not half the squad and who we sign I’m sure will be a good player but maybe not a big name . Buy the way worth putting a few quid on the new Henry statue scoring more goals than chamakh this season

People are saying how Mannone needs another chance. Sure he will get another. But as for comparing him with Sczcesny…The Polecat was solid from day one. He oozed confidence and brought exactly what we needed in goals. We are not in the position now anymore to be trying and testing players, especially our last line of defense. That is all we ever do, and get burnt for it. These are players who are required, regardless of the hierarchy in the team who earn hundreds of thousands a week, to step up to the plate when needed. What do they do, sit on a beach all day sipping martinis while our first team boys play? No, they practice and train. So Mannone’s miss kick was unacceptable, not just because he miss kicked, but because he was over a meter in the box where he could have caught it. Seriously that is sh*t I used to see at break time in school days. Not in professional soccer at Arsenal Football Club. If he cannot be cool headed in a game like that (not like we were playing F.A Cup finals), then how can we expect a keeper like him to react in crucial games?
Anyway, if RvP or Polecat get injured, we will have a serious problem as we do not have anyone who can replace them. Wenger must make a plan. Sell Flappyhandski and Almunia. Buy an experienced keeper. Send Mannone out on loan.

I’ve been too patient with chamakh and arshavin, they can both be class players, especially arshavin, he was one of my favourites, but they have both had way too many chances, squillaci was the worst signing we’ve ever made, pascal cygan and phillipe senderos were better than him and they were bad! same with rosicky, he hasn’t proved anything at all and he is ment to be an expirienced player, he plays like he is 12! in all honesty in january we should chuck out fabianksi, squillaci, rosicky, arshavin, chamakh and should replace them with cahil/ jagielka leighton baines / marcelo, yoann gourcruff / mario gotze, and lukas podolski. as much as id like to see gotze and hazard come in in january, it wont happen, there are alternatives and i think we should also promote oxlade chamberlain to the bench!

Diaby has been unlucky with injuries just like Rosicky. I think Arsenal fans forget how important these players are in the team.
Diaby is an Arsenal player that has great ball skills with his confident control and he is capable of scoring goals when he’s fit. The only other 3 players that I believe have comfortable ball security is Song, Arteta and Santos. We forget that Diaby is a holding midfielder and sub for Song. There is no one better in the team behind Song in this position. Yeah some will say Coquelin is rising, but he doesn’t possess the strength Song and Diaby display. Diaby is unlucky with not only injuries but the fact that Song has fortified the DM as his own. As Benayoun quoted, “you don’t change a winning team”.
The little Mozart Rosicky is a good dribbler and his creative passing and linkage abilities from midfield to strikers are vital in the team. Many people forget the importance of such an attribute. Rosicky won’t go because Wenger is a huge fan, knowing that the Czech offers intangible qualities to the squad as well. Mainly intelligent advice and mentoring to the younger players. Some might not know, but Rosicky is one of our most intelligent players. Has anyone noticed that Rosicky looks so much sharper and quicker this year? This is the normal fit Rosicky we were once used to seeing. Be patient, give him a chance.
I’m happy to see anyone else go but these 2 players are valuable to Arsenal. We forget that they’re both International players even though they warm our bench. Putting pressure on players coming back and not getting much time is unfair.

We have no hope of signing quality defenders, preferably English, and a decent striker to back up RvP. What decent striker wants to play second fiddle? We need to gp 442 to attract a decent striker

djourou is fine where he is Arsen will not offload any other defender except squil..
we don’t need cahill we need vertonghen left footed CB/CDM/LB everyone is complaining about injury prone players when gibbs is always out..
one defender and attacker should be priority.. asharvin should be offloaded since arsen won’t play him behind vamp..
i would be happy if pato joined us but i doubt it.. can’t think of anyone else..

i don’t get why you are all obsessed with English players.. have you seen how the England team is slowly being rebuilt eventually Ferdinand terry gerrard lampard and the others will be edged out by the barely promising future stars.. look at manu, rooney
and the four professional leagues in England and find a world-class player on form..
let Liverpool Chelsea manu bring up the defenders
lets look at the midfielder and possible attackers..

This has to be the most pathetic story i have seen this site produce ever!! chamakh had absolutely NO SERVICE!! so how the hell can anyone say he had a bad night?? arshavin started the game well, but again from the tenth minute onward there was nothing going forward! the only placer in the defence that deserves a mention for that game is ignasi migual. event vermualen left his quality in luton! and again i see djourou(the new senderos) gets away scott free! the only players who need to be thrown out is squid and djourou!

We must get rid of some of the afore mentioned players before their value goes through the floor. Any potential buyer watching on Tuesday evening will not be interested in paying “top dollar” for Chamakh, Arshavin, Squillaci. I have nothing personal against these players, they are “at present” Gooners and deserve our respect but they are not good enough to be in the Arsenal first eleven. In Chamakh’s case he has tried hard and said the right things but he doesn’t fit in with our style of play. Squillaci just hasn’t got it. He might have been a good player some time ago but he is “out of his depth” in the Premier League. Andre baffles me. When he came, I was so excited by his play, running at defences and scoring goals and working hard for the squad. Now he does none of the afore mentioned. Maybe he’s lost it or he doesn’t care any more.I would keep him if he can find some form but it’s his lazyness that bothers me. The other night he lost the ball on a number of occasions but did nothing to win it back. If he is to stay and maybe he doesn’t want to, he has got to change his work ethic. If we are to sell him, he would make a good price now, money we could use to tempt some fresh blood into the squad. It’s nearly decision time, let’s hope we get this one right, as it could decide the rest of this season. I predict we will make the semi’s in the Champions league. Depending on who we get there, this could be our year.

In fairness to Arshavin, he in not and never has been a winger. He has played his entire career prior to Arsenal as a centre forward or the man behind the strikers feeding them. Very difficult for a player who has played for ten to fifteen years in one position to be put on a wing, totally different. It’s taken Walcott a good three years or so to convert from a striker/centre forward to a winger, but he’s young. It’s like putting Mert in place of Arteta, of course he’d struggle. Chamack is utterly useless, can’t use his feet and just weak, so play him as the main forward with Ox on the right and Ryo on the left in the next FA Cup game. He needs to be played in his position before you all start calling for to be sold. Form is temporary, class is permanent.
