Owen: Arsenal are ready to win – They just need passion!

Why This Season Was Not A Total Failure For Arsenal by Owen Atkinson

A lot of Arsenal fans may think that this year was a total failure for the Gunners, but I totally disagree!

Arsenal’s team spirit and winning mentality has grown which can only lead them to regaining the top spot in the league. When I say winning mentality, I mean the ability to beat the top teams, which is key to improving. All that is missing is a bit more passion! However, this will come with maturity.

From the start, you could see that the whole team from last year had matured and were more determined to win a trophy; which looked promising. They were more ruthless in attack and the midfield worked much harder. The inclusion of the new front man Chamakh worked very well due to the “yearly” injury of R.V.P, scoring 11 goals in his first season – not bad for a freebee. Then there is Jack Wilshere… who was a breath of fresh air in the team. Moving straight into the first team from loan he has impressed the whole nation. A huge amount of credit has to go to Wenger for recognising this potential before other managers and ensuring he commits to the gunners. We all look forward to seeing Jack in action next year. It was also a great year for R.V.P. scoring his first hat trick for the Gunners, scoring 18 since the New Year and scoring in nine successive away games.

The games that really impressed me in the Premier league this year were Home v Blackpool, Away v Man City, Home v Chelsea and Home v Man U. The 3-1 win against Chelsea being the one fans will remember for years to come because of the sheer domination rounded off with three well-worked goals. The champions’ league match v Barcelona however, is my favourite game of the season. I have saved the match on my Sky+ box and I do not intend on removing it! It had everything, quality, passion, drama and a class goal from R.V.P. If the team ever doubts their ability then they only need to look back at this game for reminding.

Let us not forget that they are a young squad, who each year finishes in the top four and play the best football in the Premier League. This season has been no different in offering top quality performances home and away. We cannot wait for the day Wenger wins the Premier league and hopefully the Champions’ league with this Arsenal squad, playing the attractive football we all love.

  2. TVR says:

Well said Owen. we just need 4 or 5 players with a decent amount of experience to rule the world. I think Belgium will be our solution. Grab Vertongen and Wintsel from their respective clubs. Thus TV5 will get a perfect partner who has fair amount of experience playing champions league and winning trophy. Djourou and Kos can be perfect back ups. Give Bartley a chance ahead of Miquel as the later lacks experience. Can consider sending Miquel on loan. As for the defensive midfield let Wintsel and Song compete each other with Frimpong being the back up. As per my knowledge this Wintsel has broken someones leg and took him out of action for 9 months. Actually we need a player like him against teams like Blackburn and Stoke. With all respect sell Fabregs as his heart dosent belong here. Tie down Nasri with a long term contract. Wilshere and Nasri can be the creative department with Lansbury and Ramsey being the back ups. Now if Arshavin is staying motivate him and make him the old player who was a nightmare for every opposition. He topped the assist list of our club even with such a poor form. Cant imagine how dangerous he will be when he is in his prime. JET can provide a good back up for AA23. Walcott is the natural choice for the RW. Miyaichi could be his back up. As for the striking department cant think of anyone better than RvP. Lets pray for him to be fit for an entire season. Chamakh is a good back up for him. Everyone forgot a fact that Chamakh lost his form when Nasri was employed in the wings. As this team is centered around Nasri i expect Chamakh to be great. If Gervinho comes, he can be employed on the left wing and also as a second or third striker. But when Chamakh and Gervinho leaves for AFC in january we must promote Walcott as our main striker if something happens to RvP. So it would be better to buy one more player who can play on both the wings. Ricky Alvarez, who was previously linked with us can fill that role. Sagna should be our RB and new boy Jenkinson can be his cover and he will be the future. LB is a real area of concern. Clichy is not good in defending. And Gibbs will be in the treatment table. Traore can be a back up but we need a good LB who can defend and link up with our forwards.Actually I dont know much about good LB. I hope you readers could suggest someone good and not expensive. Sczeney to be No.1 and Fabiansky No.2. I personally think TV5 can be the Captain of this ship. how many of my Arsenal friends think i am correct. Please comment………………

You AKB zealots are blinded to the truth, seriously deluded. How many more seasons of failure and excuses will you tolerate?
My prediction is you will be posting the same rubbish at the end of next season when we again will go nowhere!

if Fab decides to stay, bravo.. If he doesn’t then we have to cash him in…Nasri plays in da middle, willian or Gervinho on da left wing and walcott on da right wing….LB, would love to see contraeo but baines would come cheaper….i hope we go back to 4-4-2….chamakh starts wid R.V.P….this time walcott n sagna should perfect their crosses…

  6. I think your team aint bad at all, just some additions needed. When fabregas leaves we can buy another midfielder 2 compete wit nasri and wilsher . We need a winger aswel because nasri will now be in midfield, an addition of two defenders would b great preferbly Gary Cahill an Christopher Samba. Then this team can compete at any level… Tel me what u think.

    Buy Samba/Cahill, Parker, Gervinho, Benzema/Falcao/Hulk.
These players will give Arsenal the much needed experience and strength. Buy Hazard if Fab leaves.. Im sure he vil not leave this summer bcoz barca has only €45m for transfers. Thats only enough for them to buy Sanchez.

(R)Owen Atkinson, interesting…you deal in facts and positivity, I like that.

Let us remember the only team who beat farcelona in the champions league and the phantom yellow card given to van persie that cost us a very achievable win or draw against them in the away leg.

And yes they dominated us but we would’ve ground out a result playing ugly!

  9. Anders Hansen says:

I do agree for most parts with u TVR.
I started this Transfer window wishing that the tem would get an overhaul..mostly because I was really dissapointed mover the play in the last 3-4 months. We lost so many to points to clubs we should have won easily over.
As last season gets further and further away I become more and more convinced that we dont need to reshuffle that many things in our squad. I do beleave though that we have to sell Fab this window, cause his heart belongs elsewhere now and him being the captain is not good, since he doesnt bleed Arsenal anymore.
Personally I would like Wenger to use ramsey alot this coming season, cause I do beleave that he will develope into a player that have the right tools for a captain. But for now TV5 might be the answer. His problem though is that he was injured all of last season and thus is kinda in the same boat as Ramsey. He is, I must say, more regular first team player than Ramsey have been so far.
Well for left back we dont even have to bring in a world-class player..Could we bring in a guy like Winterburn I would simply love it. He wasnt the best techician, but he had heart, grid and guts and thats something the team needs more than another technical defender. Besides that he had the no-nonsence mentality that is also something the team is missing at times

  10. 49 Unbeaten says:

I want to see the positives I really do but to be honest, at the absoloute best, we’ve stayed the same but results actually show we’ve gone backwards, take at the past 5 years’ season results look for yourselves –

    2004/2005 – 83 points (Champions 95 points)
    2005/2006 – 67 points (Champions 91 points)
    2006/2007 – 68 points (Champions 89 points)
    2007/2008 – 83 points (Champions 87 points)
    2008/2009 – 72 points (Champions 90 points)
    2009/2010 – 75 points (Champions 86 points)
    2010/2011 – 68 points (Champions 80 points)

Grim reading isn’t it? Infact the only reason why it seems that came close this season is NOT because we improved, more the fact the Chelsea and ManUre slacked off to give us a chance and we STILL couldn’t catch them up!

  11. OnDGooner says:

As 49Unbeaten rightly pointed out, we have actually gone backwards or at the best stagnated! Nothing to shout home about. And it seems we are back to square one even when players like Samba and Cahill are bought only for us to lose the likes of Cesc and Nasri! Where does that leave us hence my insistence that the stubborness of our manager is doing us more harm than good. If he had listened to all the cries last season about getting these players it would have saved us the heartache of feeling we might lose these top stars as we could have won something with their addition last season which in turn might have swayed Cesc and Nasri. Please let this be the last season AFC went without a trophy because heads should then roll with Arsene’s 1st in line.

The problem is everyone is a brilliant manager, you go on football manager and they by some miracle appear in your team, trophy–so if we had won the carling cup and finished fifth this season , you would have been happy. Stop talking such utter tripe. THe first object is to win the premiership ,then champions league, then qualify for the champions league, then FA Cup then Carling cup in that order. UTD won the first ,Barca the second. media hype has convinced so called Arsenal fans to be arrogant and spoilt.

    very much an “in-denial” article.
Arsenal is like an ill patient…the problem with consultant wenger is that he doesnt feel that much treatment is necessary. Even after years of the malaise, he still believes its just a question of some tweaks here and there. Radical and decisive surgery is needed. Cut out the bad bits, replace with quality bits and the patient is healthy. For this surgery you need a surgeon with some balls…not a ditherer……and thats the problem!

@TVR good job but first coming to LB there is not more than 5 better LBS than clichy he knows how to defend wel but he commits himself forward more coz of AW but otherwise we must try n keep him as for theo he has everything to be a main striker expect body which is very essential to make links in the 4 3 3 form the rest just as i hope for the first team n second

To the idiots up top who think we have gone backwards because we havent finished with more and more points each year…..

    WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously do you really believe that? REALLY?!?!?! Why do your negative minds work that way, why cant you look at it like other teams have improved so we dropped more points over the seasons, I havent checked but do you really think Man U, Chelski and other top teams get more and more points each season, if that were the case Man U would finish on 114 points each season with the amount of success they have had in the last 10 years.

And to be completly honest your so very well planned out stats completly contredict themselves because if you look closely you will see that the champions have also dropped more and more points each season, that says it all really doesnt it.

The Premier League is improving so you best get used to us getting less points each season, its what makes our League so great, any team can beat any team.

To the guy below the stats expert, get out of hes arse and start formulating your own opinions, negative bastard serioulsy need to start supporting your team

    WIN LOSE OR DRAW

I no a few West Ham fans who would love to be in our position………
