Owen Coyle: Bolton should be in next round – not Arsenal! (plus highlights)
Arsene Wenger returned to his old policy of playing with a very young team for the Carling Cup matches last night when Bolton visited the Emirates, and they put in an excellent performances.
Admittedly they were aided by some experienced fringe first-team players like Benayoun, Ju-Young Park, Andrei Arshavin and captain Thomas Vermaelen, but it was an excellent performance nonetheless.
But the Bolton manager Owen Coyle is certain that his team deserved to be in the next round after registering more shots than the Gunners, and he thinks the referee may have helped Arsenal progress.
Coyle said: “We have lost the game 2-1. I don’t think there is anybody who was here tonight who would recognise it.
“We certainly, I feel, created the clear opportunities and should have been in the next round of the cup. But we’re not and that little bit of luck is going against us just now.
“We had a stonewall penalty in the second half not given as well, which doesn’t surprise me.
“Coming to the Emirates, we have not really had much fortune over the years.
“But the lads stuck to their task, created loads of goalscoring opportunities and, as I say, Lady Luck never shone on us tonight.”
Sour grapes there from Owen Coyle, but watch out for the performance (and excellent goal) from Ju-Young Park. At last Arsenal have a striker thats not afraid of shooting from outside the box!

I believe it will only get better for the Gunners, due to the fact that we do not have the full squad back from injuries and players who are yet to find form. Such as Jack Wilshere etc.

that was parks second appearance of the season and he was the best player on the pitch, amazing runs and great instincts, hope wenger gives him a chance in the first team line-up

What do you expect from a manager who is under extreme pressure for poor performance. I really pity him, but having chances and being able to convert them are two different things altogether. That is what sets a great team apart from a mediocre team.
He can consult Wenger maybe he can loan him some brainy youngsters to help him and he can also give him some tips on how to stay focused while under pressure.

I didn’t watch the game because 2:45am was a bit early to wake up here in China but i did read some good tactical analysis of the game. It seems to me that Arsenal played a very defensive game with two defensive midfielders and young full backs who were instructed to play conservatively. Oxlade-Chamberlain was disappointing and Benayoun was more impressive in defense that in attack. My point is that if this is accurate it’s no susprise that the lone striker drifted out of the game at times and we should be appreciative that he was clinical when a chance came his way and continued looking for space despite being outnumbered (referring to Park). To me he seems like a natural goalscorer, having seen his numerous goals for South Korea lately. Chamakh may have a good work rate and contribute plenty to the team but a clinical finisher is one thing that he will never be so i’m happy to see that we may have a fox-in-the-box.

So Mr coyle, I remember a premier league game between Bolton and arsenal having had 70% of play 16 shots and lost 1 nil so do u believe we should have had those 3 points. I doubt it accept it you have to score more goals on this occasion you didn’t. Move on and think bout the league not about the young guns who put u out the cup.

Concentrate on the good things not the mandatory blame laying that most losing managers insist on spouting. Park is as anticipated an intelligent “on the shoulder” forward and a natural goalscorer unlike Chamakh. Park needs games to assess how good he can be. Arshavin is clearly better in that role now older and somewhat bulkier he finds it difficult to impress as much on the wing, especially with three marking him. He is however still a very clever player. Miguel has class, Ox, Ryo, Frimpong and Coquelin all need time and games at a higher level to sharpen up mentally. Like most Wenger sides its all good for the future. Lets hope we have a spiriterd performance against Chelsea

Andrey Arshavin played a blinder in the role behind the striker, best game from him so far this season, also park looks to be the man we’ve been looking for, curling a shot around the keeper into the far corner on his first touch, QUALITY!, Wenger has also said ryo will be ready for the premier league by christmas, look forward to having Ryo and Park on the same pitch!

personally, coyle is probably just want to get his frustration out.. park plays like RVP, even though his finishing isn’t as good as RVP, but his movement n skill was superb.. he managed to test Bolton’s GK on many occasions.. i can see a bright future for him if he keeps playing like this..
