Proof at last that Arsenal are NOT a one-man team – Shut it Hansen!

Posted on December 05, 2011 by admin

When Arsenal brought Chelsea down 5-3 at Stamford Bridge, it was with a rather maniacal chuckle that Alan Hansen talked about van Persie. The same man who spoke of Walcott’s lack of a “footballing brain” was finally going to get on Arsenal’s back.

“Arsenal almost looking like a one-man team!” he commented rather casually.

Perhaps he had reason to think so. Even in the later matches, Arsenal more or less scored all their goals through the Dutchman.

Several matches on now, the pundits are eating their words. With Ramsey and Arteta running the midfield so confidently, Song providing the impetus in attacking at times and the wingers Gervinho and Walcott providing quality support from the flanks, Arsenal are offensively more vibrant and productive than before.

The players are starting to gel and trust each other, if not more than they would with van Persie.

The match against Wigan was most telling about Arsenal’s new found stability and the team’s balance. The first three goals – provided by Arteta, Vermaelen and Gervinho – were shows not of individual brilliance, but of the confidence of these players to take on the play themselves and to make things happen. No longer is van Persie solely relied on to create chances, move the team forward and I daresay shoot for a goal from unlikely positions.

This only bodes well for the future, too. Teamwork has always been the most important part of Arsenal’s game, as the club’s motto “Victoria Concordia Crescit” will tell you. Victory through harmony is the way, the only way that Arsenal will accept.

**Van Persie’s first 100 goals for Arsenal – 10 goals per minute! – Brilliant!**

Hansen is an old fool whose best hobby is to criticize teams and players. Enough of his words and theories.

Hansen is a joker. His comments always makes me laugh!

Credit to the team for responding nicely to their critics. I’m loving Theo’s run of form!

It’s about time those who criticise Hansen, realise that the abrasive way he dissects teams and games is how he earns his money. A quiet, non-agressive type would be of no use to the programme. Think of the newscoverage he gets, (like Boycott at cricket or the Duke of Edinbugh on anything).Better by far to treat his views merely as those of one man, acting a part.

PS I can just imagine the programme director shouting in Hansen’s earphone “Come on Alan, you’re being too nice. Start being spiteful”.

  5. Bola says:

What does he mean by one man team? If RVP does not get ball assists from Walcott, Arteta or Gervinho, would he be 14goals up in the league this season? What people should know is that every team has its talisman and it shouldn’t be anybody’s problem, ours lies in RVP. Hansen should be regarded as shit and not a pundit.

  6. gunner says:

that is so not-true.when van persie is focal point in the attack, its obvious goals come through him.unlike messi who can dribble and score himself (whos a necessity for barca to be consistent),arsenal are not dependent on rvp in same way.but u gotta admit hes the only true finisher arsenal have right now…what do the pundits expect in a 4-5-1 formation ?

. . . and where are those calling for Arsene Wenger’s head earlier this season? Could another manager have turned the team around better with the way we started this season? Let everyone get behind the team and the manager and the team will continue to soar. IN ARSENE WE TRUST. ARSENAL FOR LIVE.

  9. S.H says:

I actually believe Arsenal were more of a one man team when Fabregas was around. The team relied too much on his fantastic vision and direct incisive style. When Fab was injured we lacked spark and creativity completely as a team because it depended too much on its ex captain.

Van Persie was on a good run even when Fab and Nas were on board. The reason why the media are speculating over Arsenal’s dire need for RVP is that 2 of our world class players were sold and the next big name being the Flying Dutchman. RVP has continued his top form this calender year due to his brilliant movements off the ball and finding the space to hit his shots. Of course other players assisting have helped his form, but it still comes down to Robin to finish it off.

In simple words, RVP capitalises on his self-made opportunities and chances created by Walcott, Gervinho, Arteta, Song and Ramsey. It is an overall team effort as we all know the Wenger style of football. As for other idiots stating Arsenal are a one man team, they obviously don’t watch Arsenal play closely. If we lost Song, Walcott, Ramsey or even Gervinho to injury, Arsenal would lose someone vital in the team mechanics. So does that not mean RVP isn’t the only person we rely on? The team all need each other!!! Let’s see the Gunners embarrass Man City at home. We did it last year, let’s make it an annual event. “BEAT MAN CITY AWAY DAY”.

@Teck Sorry gotta disagree. That would all be true if he came out and admitted when he was wrong (Theo) or gave arsenal lots of praise when they won but you can see he doesn’t wanna give Arsenal the kind of praise he gives other teams (Man U) when they win.

    Totally biased pundit end of.

Throughout life there is always some asshole trying to bring someone down. In this case it’s Hansen. But the statement ‘Theo has no football brain’, actually initially came out of Glen Hoddle’s mouth. So that makes Hansen look like even more of a twat. We all know Arsenal is no one man team. We are a well oiled machine. The reason why they are calling us a one man team, is because RvP has been our primary goal scorer. Without him, can we still net goals? I wouldn’t say we would be able to be as consistent scoring goals, but we definitely are capable of doing so without RvP.

It’s a stupid statement as any team with any sort of formula or strategy, feeding their striker is a mandatory process. I mean ‘duh’ that is why we have strikers – to score goals. It is only when our midfielders and other players are in a great position to score, will they have a crack of their own at goals. They are not going to hog the ball to shoot for themselves, we have strikers for a reason.

    Silly man.
