Ramsey’s leadership significant in Wales win – A future Arsenal captain?
The majority of the attention may have been on England’s victory over world and European Champions Spain, but Aaron Ramsey’s Wales enjoyed an equally impressive result.
Arsenal’s Welshman was once again the side’s captain, leading the struggling nation to a stunning victory over Norway in Cardiff. The 4-1 win was a brilliant result, considering that fellow Premier League stars John Arne Riise, Brede Hangeland and Morten Gamst Pedersen were all included in the opposition line-up.
However, what is even more striking is the way that Ramsey has dealt with the pressures of being captain of a national team ranked 45th in the world, below the likes of Iran and just one place above Armenia. Having been chosen as permanent captain in March, Wales have since won five out of the last nine games and Ramsey’s appointment seems to have boosted the side’s confidence no end. The fact that he is still only 20 years old – and the country’s youngest ever captain – shows what an influential leader he can be.
Ramsey played a crucial part throughout last night’s match, controlling the midfield and remaining calm to continuously create chances for his teammates. Similarly to his form for Arsenal, the Welshman was looking comfortable against a strong team, regardless of his young age.
Jack Wilshere may be tipped as being a future Arsenal captain when Robin Van Persie ends his time at the club – hopefully to retire rather than to move elsewhere – but Aaron Ramsey could well be a contender for being an excellent leader in the coming years.
Is ‘Rambo’ enough of a vocal figure to be a future captain for the Gunners?

Good for the young man and for the gunners. He has grown so much the last two months, you just see the confidence when he is playing, he is becoming rapidly irreplaceble. I for one think that Arteta has a good influence on him because he reduces the defensive risks and allows him the freedom. Ramsy has great vision, he’s fast becoming Fab’s successor in my opinion and is more direct, which I like a lot. Against chelsea he was outstanding, daring and inspired. Another great atatcker/ creative midfielder and we’re in great shape me thinks.
Top Gooner!. Agree or not?:

Ramsey and Wilshere are the future of Arsenal. Both are quality. Just need a midfielder now (creative, and experienced) who can show the way for these young lads. Someone like Sniejder would be perfect. One can dream.

snejder would be the bomb at arsenal!
he always gives his all for inter but they are stuck at the bottom of seria a.
maybe we can snatch him, the money is surely there.

Ramsey would have been in the top ten midfielders in the world had it not been for his injury but the great news for us gooners is that he is slowly but surely getting back to his pre-injury form.
Definitely the future of Arsenal along with Jack.

We have too many captain materials. Vermalaen, Merts, Sagna quickly come to mind.

He still has some way to go. In my opinion he isn’t consistent enough. Wilshere, Song, Arteta would be my MF. I suppose Ramsey can only get better though. He definately has been pretty good so far this season, especially when it counts (Chelsea.) He just needs to speed his game up a bit, by that I mean his reaction time.

I think where Wilshere is our Scholes, Ramsey is Gerrard/Lampard. Now we just need a Zidane

Being a captain at Arsenal is about as precarious as being a manager of Chelsea but for different reasons. We need a long term captain and, should RVP decide to take the train, Vermaelen appears to be the rock we`re looking for. If everything goes to plan (and it rarely does) Wilshere is being groomed for such a stable role. As for Ramsey fate will decide his future but I think vice captain will be his forte.

It’s Vermaelen for me! If and when RvP leaves.

i think its lovely to know that we have more national team captains than any club in england. Rambsey- wales, vermalen- belgium, Rosicky- czeck republic, Arshavin- russia, park-japan, fabinski- poland. it goes down to show that at certain point especially where we usually lose our nerves other years we can scale through this time.

I’m pretty sure Park is not the captain of Japan…
The issue with selecting a captain is also the role off the field. Wilshere’s behaviour need some maturing and Ramsey seems like a cooler head.
If RvP stays as long as we all hope, although quite a few fans suggested to sell him during the summer because of his injury record, he can probably stay captain of Arsenal for another 3-4 years. At that time, Ramsey will be ready for captaincy. TV5 is only 2 years younger than RvP11 and will be, in my opinion, only a short term solution. If RvP leaves within the next year, that changes things and I would have chosen TV5 as captain with Ramsey as vice-captain.
