Ray Parlour – Wenger should buy Defoe and Parker, not Barton!
The Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has heard the latest Arsenal rumour linking the Gunners with Joey Barton, but he thinks that West Ham’s Scott Parker would be a much better buy for Arsene Wenger.
“They do need strength in the midfield but I’d go for Scotty Parker.
“Scotty has proved that he can do it internationally and I think he’d fit in very easily and it would be a great move as well.
“He’s got all you need from a midfield player. He breaks things up, he’s a good tackler, he drives things on as he has done for West Ham. He’s been a one-man-team for West Ham this season so I would pick him.
“Joey Barton has knuckled down a bit better but he’s been playing on the right-hand side for Newcastle but for me the way Arsenal play I think Parker would fit in perfectly in that holding role in front of the back four.
“He’s not going to get up and down like he used to but he’s got the experience now and he’s been at some big clubs.”
Parlour also thinks that the out-of-favour Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe would be a great addition to the Arsenal side, especially f rediscovers his form from a couple of years ago.
“I know they are linked with Jermain Defoe and he would be a good signing for Arsenal,” he said.
“They create so many chances that if you get a fox-in-the-box then I’m sure he’d bang in a load of goals for Arsenal.
“I don’t think the Tottenham fans will like it but that’s football these days.”
I would certainly agree with Parlour that we would be better off with Parker than barton, but from talking to some Tottenham fans, they would gladly pay Arsenal to take Defoe away! I am sure there are better in-form strikers on the market….

I agree with you Parlour, I have been telling my friends that we need Scott Parker because of his huge exprience, hunger and he is a winner. Ok, he is 30, but let him come in for 3 years contract grab a trophy here and go.

We the fans started yearning to see scott parker in the red and white jersey even before the season ended. I dont know what is stopping wenger and his management team from seeing the value of scott parker. For defoe, i would rather see falcao even if at a much higher price.

My monies on Tottenham as Parker is a typical Harry Redknapp signing and I think Tottenham will be able to guarantee him more first team action. Parker does not offer us physical strength, height and hardly any experience outside of the league – only now featuring for England and I can even think of one time I have seen him in the Champions league. So I think if it was January again – yes get him but now, with the go ahead on spending – we need to be more ambitious then Parker. Defo is good player no doubt but, it depends on the fee and what else is out there and I cant see it happening especially as we have Walcott anyway.

Parker OR Barton is fine by me……and defoe would score loads with arsenal……he modelled himself on Ian Wright…..thats a great role model to follow…..hes a natural goalscorer.
