Robert Pires Questions Arsenal’s Youth Policy
Robert Pires won five trophies in his time at Arsenal, but it was not all glory for the Frenchman. He also knows what it is like to be on the receiving end of a hammering at Old Trafford.
Pires has been speaking to the magazine France Football about Arsenal and Arsene Wenger. He feels that Wenger is the man to take Arsenal forward following their defeat at Old Trafford, but he is not so sure about the clubs policy about signing so many youth players.
He said, “I remember when we were beaten 6-1 at Old Trafford. Immediately afterwards, the president publicly supported Arsene and the team. It had an effect. The next game we slammed West Ham 3-0.”
Lets hope that’s an omen then as we would all gladly take a comfortable 3-0 home win on Saturday. Pires went on to say, “At the moment, Arsenal will struggle to compete with the big teams and that’s what scares me. The current team – that was good last season – is missing parts. We must allow time for Arsene, to trust him. I respect his philosophy. But is it good? I would suggest not in relation to statistics.”
Pires is now 37 and after leaving Aston Villa at the end of last season currently finds himself without a club. He went on to defend Wenger by saying, “Arsene is caught in a storm and I will be the first to support him because I love the man and the coach. And that team continues to play good football. Arsene must build his team as he has always wanted, with players who like the ball but also with warriors.”
He finished off by saying, “You can’t start a young team like that and say “we must win the championship”. Ferguson is getting it right now. He built on his team – he bought Ashley Young when he already had Nani and Antonio Valencia.”

we can still make some gr8 buys in jan, like cahill (we can get him 4 peanuts cause he will have 6months left on his contract), yann m’villa, wilshere will be fit soon, hopefully lillie will flop hard n we can offer hazard a way out, vermaelen will get fit soon,
we can challenge 4 honours remember when chelsea were 5 points clear of 2nd place (us) n 9 points ahead of united n this was 13 games into the league n who won the league last season?, yes we had a very bad start but i really think we can grab a trophy n CL football if arsene plays his tactics rite n if every1 at the emirates screams their hearts out, C’mon GUNNERZ

city r about 2 collapse it’s only a matter of time, they can’t afford 2 pay all those wages n when they really have 2 sell they won’t be able 2, i mean think about it, who would buy clichy 4 10m on 100,000 pounds a week, liverpool couldn’t beat us when we had seven players out n 3 youngsters making their debut (miquel, jenkinson, frimpong) until we were ten men down n they scored an offside own goal, so how can we not finish above them?, chelsea r depleting fast evry1 is 2 old n slow, torres can’t score, only worries may be mata, lukaku n luiz otherwise no probs, united r a challenge though they’ll probably win AGAIN
, but on the bright side FFP rules come into action next season n while liverpool, united, chelsea n of course city sell n sweat it out 2 meet the rules n restrictions, arsenal will be either watching our youth policy dominate OR signing players like dzeko on the cheap 4rom desperate City

I think Wenger has the right idea now, he has youth with experienced players. Look how well United are doing, same story. Just wish that coconut fell on Wenger’s head much earlier. I still think we need another solid defender signing (like Cahill) seeing Verminator ‘will not be beck’ anytime soon, and looking at his injury record most likely to be injured again. We also need a new AM of course, Hazard YES PLEASE. We have loads of raw talent waiting to be unleashed and honed – Miyaichi, Chu-Young, The Ox, Frimpong etc.
Cannot wait for Saturdays game.

I don’t know what january is going to be..
We really need to pay better salaries or else we won’t get cahill, hazard and gotze, they would go to the other clubs who pay better. At the everybody has the same chance to win the title, so why should you refuse to earn more money since the opportunity is right there and is not unethical.
A shame that Arsenal is still back in the 20th century thinking that his salary (cheap) structure is adequate.
If only for salaries, in this moment we could still have ashley cole, nasri, fabregas, even henry and better players than squillaci and almunia….
I don’t know how profitable is to miss out on the revenues from winning titles and featuring stars by saving on salaries??

We should sign Pires as an assistant coach! He’s right. Over the last five years Arsene said he’ll win with youth, the Man U team we played were just as young and just as inexperienced,and they won 8-2.
The problem with Arsenal is not just the kids, its all around, to the board, the players and most of all,

OUR DEFENSIVE TACTICS SUCK!
You can blame Konciely and Djourou, but they kept a clean sheet last season against man u.
Even fabregas is saying he has to work on his defense at barca, because he didn;t learn crap at arsenal.
Gibbs is saying the best defense is a good offense, no its not, the best defense is the best defense, (tactically and player-wise)

ur missing the point the FFP rules say u can’t dip into ur owner’s pocket anymore only money u EARN from sponsorships, trophies, tickets, or in our case spending peanuts instead of money every transfer window, City will collapse mark these words, when the FFP rules come out City r pretty much f##ked n this is their 1st season playing CL that’s hard on any team let alone a team of gold diggers n no chemistry like city they’ll collapse

Pires, Keown, Viera, Wright, & Dixon are all ex-gooners who share similar opinions about Arsenal and Arsene’s policies. It’s no secret that Arsenal need reinforcements and with TWO billionaires on the board it is more than odd that we didn’t get the names we’re now calling for earlier (Hazard, Cahill, M’Villa…).
Problems at board level??
Seems that Wenger is doing the best job he can with the resources he has available to him…
100% agree with comments about City drowning slowly and painfully.

Pires is very right,actually Arsenal is fond of buying very many under-20s players who cannot make a team to be winning trophies,that’s why Arsenal keeps on going trophiless year in year out! They should change this policy.
But I disagree with Pires about Wenger being the right coach to lead Arsenal to success;no! Instead Arsenal should fire Wenger and appiont coaches like Guus Hiddink, Frank Rijkaard, Louis van Gaal,Carlos Dunga,Tony Adams,etc so as to be winning trophies

no doubt with out humilation from manu we would not see permedeseker and santos at arsenal.
as we all know saga of this german guy over 2 years.
it’s good to see yossi and arteta in our midfield but comparing what we had lost this summer, it’s nothing.one thing i had learn this summer about arsenal transfer ,it’s not the board who don’t want to spend for arsenal, it’s wenger who don’t want to buy and we still need 1 CB and 1 DMF hope this will happen in january transfer window.for sure i will not expect to be champion or 2nd place at end of the season with the current sign made by wenger but wenger will say he is going for title.
the truth is we are still not good enough for title.
m looking forwards wenger way out of arsenal next summer.
