Robin Van Persie clarifies his position on Arsenal contract talks

Posted on February 26, 2012 by admin

The Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie has heard so many rumours and counter-rumours regarding his future at Arsenal that he has decided to release an official statement clarifying the present state of the negotiations between himself and the club.

In the statement posted on Arsenal.com, Van Persie yet again states there will be no further discussions until the end of the season, and explains why. This is what he said:
“There have been a lot of stories, generally contradictory ones, about my contract situation recently so I’d like to make it clear,” he said.

“There’s nothing complicated or sinister – the Club and I have both agreed to speak at the end of the season and see how things stand. The boss, Ivan Gazidis and I are all comfortable with it.

“I need all my focus to be on football – on captaining this team, improving every day, doing extra work on the training pitch and preparing for the very busy schedule of fixtures we have.

“If I look down the list, there’s not much time to sit down and think about anything else! For me, this is a time to play football and not speak about personal things. All of my energy needs to go on getting this team where we want it to be this season.”

Far be it for me to be cynical about this, but that sounds eerily similar to the statements put out by Samir Nasri last season……

basically, if if the team isnt strengthened (new signings in and deadwood dropped) over the next transfer period, he will go which is fair enough.

Basically, I would leave my company for more respect and money, if my company refuse to pay me good market rate wages, and always disappoint me by failing to give me bonus and making me work OT because of incompetence of other staffs.

  3. Big Dill says:

I can understand that now he is in the later stage of his career he wants to compete and win some major trophies as he has just 1 fa cup winner’s medal with us, but on the other hand wouldn’t be refreshing to see a player show a bit of loyalty to a club that have stuck by him and paid him good wages for many injury hit seasons, I think this is the only season he has been injury free.
I would like to think he owes us, but the modern footballer knows nothing about loyalty, do they?

For those who didn’t understand what he meant, ALL he was trying to say was “Get me Goetze, Cavani and Bigilia and I’ll stay”. i.e he wants assurances that the team can compete.

rvp has done a lot for arsenal this season. we are still in the cl spots because of him. the least the board can do is offer him a bumper contract and guarentee a couple of world class signings for next season. if not let the guy leave. he is reaching the end of his career and will want to win a few trophees. the arsenal board should stop playing mind games with the fans.

  8. Mick says:

What is the point of him making an honest statement to clarify his position if most of you idiots will not accept what he says at face value and still insist in putting your own interpretation on his words. Why can you not just accept what he says about his own situation, you are insulting him by not doing so. He says he and the club have agreed not to discuss a contract till the end of the season, a perfectly simple thing to understand, why can you not accept his word on it.

I sympathise with him, he loves the club but heneeds to wins trophies and that doesnt seem possible at arsenal as the management and coach are exremely stingy and has not kept pace ith realities. If they want him to stay, they need to give him hope by improving the team and his pay. Otherwise, he can get everything elsewhere.

Every player is replaceable, even RVP. i don’t want to see him leave but if he does we will get a hefty fee which we can reinvest. Whether we REALLY invest is the real question.
If RVP goes, then maybe we can have 2 strikers leading the pack, with Ryo and AOC on the wings, Wilshere and Song in the centre and Santos,Vermaelen, Kozzie and Sagna

  15. toby says:

lets just see what happens this summer, i really dont think he would leave unless he felt he had no choice, and if that is the case he will go with my blessing as he is certainly no nasri or adebywhore, and to suggest he is anything like them two is really tasteless for such a classy player and man.

He will leave i bet but not till transfer window nearly closed again giving us no time to get replacemant , as if arsene would buy a replacement anyway ???? remember that Vela and Bendtner will return from loan so they will not replace him ! Wenger will just say that Vela and Bendtner have improved vastly over the season and does not need a replacement , just like they tricked us with signing Henry on loan just to distract us from the fact that yet another transfer window passed with out signing a quality player .

My only complaint is that we don’t have a post on the actual match yet again.

Nothing like the so called derby game in the north of England that end up being nothing more than friendly games.
The North London Derby is always the match to watch.
One lucky goal from the spuds and a non existent penalty made it look like luck was not on our side but two excellent goals from Sagna and RVP.
Lets take the spuds to cleaners now come on ARSENAL.

Very pleased with workrate of team (midfield especially). Made a big difference. Great to see Rosicky and Benayoun constantly running off the ball. The two of them plus Arteta did great closing Tottenham down quickly high up the pitch and it was good to see Arteta bring the ball up and play direct passes. Walcott did good second half and finished his chances. Tough away game next up, lets get behind the team and bring the 12th man to the kop and get us a win!

I hope todays performance finally outlined rosickys ability to all the haters! I always think its out of order when fans label him as deadwood. There’s a good few players in the squad who don’t deserve to be there but rosickys definatly not one of them. He can’t really shoot (though his goal today was a beautiful little dink) and he’s not a star but he can’t be faulted for his work-rate, passing, vision and awareness. We need to hold on to players like him if we want to start building some much needed depth in squad.

Mark my words.. he wont leave. He has said this because he wants to see what the team is thinking of for the next year and what the transfers are like. In a way I hope Arsenal fisnih 4th and not 3rd so that Arsene buys some firepower for the qualification stages.. He is just waiting to see what kind of signings come in and what is the future for Arsenal in the coming year before he signs on the dotted line which is quite fair.

With regards to Robin’s contract Wenger needs to be realistic and do what is right for both the club and RVP.
If Wenger decides not to bring up new faces to strengthen his squad I will not hold any thing against him. BUT surely failure to keep cornerstones for our team has costed us too many things and we do not need a reapeat of that. Spend wisely and build another invincible team “You have already done that Wenger why not Repeat it”
