Sam: Just a few tweaks and Arsenal will have TWO great teams!

Posted on June 14, 2011 by admin

The First Arsenal post I have ever written Guest Post by Sam Diatta

Let me start by saying in no way do I feel that Arsene Wenger will ever go for this but I feel and many will agree that these are very reasonable suggestions that will not bankrupt Arsenal.

Let’s be straight forward with it we need to clear all the deadwood we have, forget the past and start not anew per se because the base is there just tweaking is needed. We have some of the most technically gifted players in van p, Cesc, Nasri, Jack, and some lads coming through. We need to build around that. The people that fit this building process are: Verm, Szczesny, Clichy, Sagna, Walcott, Song.

This is our base.

Szczesny

Sagna kos Verm Clichy

Cesc Song Jack

Walcott Van P Nasri

When we have had for the most part this team healthy we have been unstoppable but unfortunately for us they are mostly all lightweight except for Sagna and tend to get hurt. When that happens we completely fall apart. Because of this it is necessary to have a solid backup or challenger at least at every position. Right now we have mannone, Ramsey, Arshavin and Djourou who we know can come on and do an acceptable amount, Mannone is the only one of those 4 that has a chance of stealing a spot. It will benefit Arsenal a great load to get rid of the dead wood because there are upcoming players that are qualified to be subs. If Wenger gets rid of, Squi, almunia, eboue, denilson, bendy, rosicky, and loans out gibbs, miquel, djourou and fabianski to epl upcoming squads we can then rejuvenate the team from within and also buy a little experience.

Mannone

Jenkinson/kyle Walker Jagielka Sakho Botelho/troare

Ramsey Parker Lansbury

Sinclair Chamakh Vela

The players that I said should go have been given enough chances and just do not cut it at arsenal. We are holding each other back and it’s better for both parties to just separate. The ones I picked to come in are a mixture of youth sturdiness talent physical and experience. Phil is composed and puyol like. Sakho is a monster and is capable of greatness. Kyle walker is immense (the right back version of cashley in a few year). The two backs are fast and can cross which brings relevance to chamakh who we can use now. The combo of parker and wislhere is legendary to say the least and will please the FA. Sinclair is actually the next Henry if he works with Wenger. The ultimate fuse will then create this unbelievable team.

Zczsesny/Mannone

Sagna Jagielka Vermaelen/Sakho Clichy

Cesc Parker Jack

Sinclair/theo Van P Nasri

Subs
Ramsey
Vermaelen
Theo
Kos
Bartley
Lansbury
Traore
Vela
Zczsesny
Song
Botelho
Frimpong
Diaby

Does anyone think these signings make sense?

What a lot of nonsense. Mannone iso Sczsesny? Sakho iso Vermaelen? Sinclair iso Walcott? Parker iso of Song/Ramsey/Arshavin? What a load of bollocks. It is generally accepted that the team needs experience and you want to replace three of our stars with unproven youngsters. Just further proof that any idiot with a keyboard can blog. I bet the writer of this piece of rubbish is not even an Arsenal fan.

  8. Dolan Roy says:

Not bad for a first publication. The only constructive criticism I have to offer is proof read for grammatical errors and tone down the exaggerations. A Parker-Wilshere partnership is far from epic. Jagielka is far from Puyol-like. Scott Sinclair the next Thierry Henry? Don’t slap your club and yourself in the face simultaneously like that. Loan out Fabianski who is undoubtedly our 2nd choice keeper? Also loan out Djourou and Gibbs? It is very easy to argue Djourou was our best CB last season. Gibbs out? What if we sell Clichy or he gets hurt? Gibbs is the direct backup! I do agree with you on Kyle Walker, Sakho, and loaning Miquel within the league.

I do believe that the current team can beat anyone on their best day..the main problem is consistency. It comes with maturity and experience..e.g. knowing how to avoid mistakes at crucial games and not letting opponents pressurize us when we’re leading.

@Madu…u are right but he is also right as he we hardly get our fit coz all are injury prone..fab misses important matches, persie miss the 1st half of season, vermaleen miss the whole season and djorou, diaby, walcot often get injured so how can we win..but it is also true that if this team come in full stregnth with no injury then we will be unstoppable……but it hardly gonna happen so we need hard players like samba, sakho, falcao…am i right?

  11. Chiang Mai Steve says:

Arsenal’s problem was the inability to rotate players to ensure longevity in the season because the gulf between the first team and their “cover” was too great. This meant outcomes could not be “risked” by playing certain members and they “rusted” through lack of use and were near useless when injuries forced them to be called upon. 3 or 4 signing will up the overall quality whereby the necessary player rotation becomes possible. Players with long standing injuries should be rested until fully recovered. The lack of cover for Song meant Fabregas and Diaby were played when not fully recovered resulting in further damage. Towards the end of the season as players fell by the wayside through injury, the side became unbalanced and vulnerable as desperation set in.

Whoever else we sign we need a player like a Vertongen capable of playing DM and CH or LB if necessary. Or we release one of the CH’s (TV5, Kos or JD) to fill that place.

When we try to change our style we also lacked the required skill sets to maximize the outcomes. There is no point playing Chamakh through the centre if we lack players who can make pin point crosses, therefore the Nasri/ Walcott replacements should not necessarily be like for like, but bring these other skills to the game.

We need Samba types for the long ball game and Kolcielny types for the more skillful opponents.

No one seems to remember how well Fabianski was playing before he was injured. He is ahead of Mannone and will contest with Sczescny next season for the No. 1 shirt.

The writer obviously believes Vermaulen has a sibling (or a clone – now isnt that a great idea) as he is starting him and playing him from the bench in team 2!

What people should expect is not a massive overhaul of personnel but a massive change in philosophy. A change of formation would Arsenal much better than half the players people are asking for.

The article was anything but professional so let me fill in some things that might have been hard to understand for some.
The thing about the players listed in both the line up and the sub. I put them in the line up to show that they will be able to fight for the pot but i named them on the bench to show that i prefer the other. Of the 3 young Lfbacks we have gibbs is the least convincing to me. Sincalir is by no means similar to theo. much stronger and wayyyy better with the ball. I was going to put walker ahead of sagna but thought at that point no one will take me seriously at all. Sinclair will be one of the top forwards in the EPL the coming years though, quote me.

  33. K says:

This was a pretty good attempt. I can understand where the writer comes from but I’d advise him to watch a few more years of football before putting himself out like this again.

“Arsenal’s problems are quite grave because they can’t be solved by simply trimming the deadwood and plugging the gaps in the playing squad. Although I do think that we need a bruiser defender and wide players who can actually cross the ball, the reality is that the first team is fine. The problem is that their replacements are inadequate.

The best second team to have is one that is comprised of consistent hard working types and promising youth players. We were too reliant on Song and Djourou last season and that backfired when they were injured or off form. Wilshere too played twice as many games as he should have. These things occurred because Wenger didn’t want to have to play Denilson, Squillacci or Diaby.

By keeping hold of Coquelin, Bartley and Lansbury – Wenger would have had the depth in the positions we craved. The loan system is effective but sending our youngsters out en masse like that is very uncharacteristic for a club with Arsenal’s supposedly youth-orientated reputation. I think that we’re so focused on finding Coles and Wilsheres that we forget that someone in there could actually be the next Parlour or Grimandi.

We actually need a change in playing style too. Our 4-2-3-1 formation is inherently flawed for several obvious reasons – one being ineffective wide play – another being that it’s built around a Fabregas-shaped fulcrum not always present or even accounted for. Reverting to the old 4-4-2/4-2-2-1-1 system or perhaps adopting the diamond, we will actually enable the likes of Walcott, Arshavin and Nasri to play in their best positions.”

As soon as i saw Clichy in your first choice XI i knew i’d disagree. He has deteriorated dramatically over the last few seasons to the point where he is harmless going forward and a potential liability in defense, totally anonymous at set-pieces. We need to replace him with someone who can orgainse a defense at set-pieces ideally if that man exists and if not we need to replace the second best CB with such a character. Teams can be drilled on the training ground but you need someone to react in the moment to the opposition threats and organise his players to adapt to how the opposition are lining up. In my humble unqualified opinion that is what makes the difference between teams that are solid at set-pieces and those who aren’t. Often it’s the goalie who’ll do it but you can’t expect that of a 21yo goalie however much natural talent he has.

    imo, if Nasri and Fabregas leave our line up should aim to look something like this;

    Szczesny

    Sagna, Samba, Vermaelen, Baines/Aly Cissokho

    Ramsey, Song, Wilshire

    Walcott, Van Persie, Hazard/Gervinho

or if we manage to get Hazard and Gervinho (which I highly doubt), slot Hazard into the midfield in Wilshire’s place then put Jack in for Song. Hazard and Gervinho have both been outstanding this season and Cissokho has also been awesome for Lyon. we could use a player like Yoann Gourcuff as well. these past few years he has been a good player in the French league. but then again, Chamakh was outstanding last season in the French league then crumbled this season.

and for the people that are moaning about experience and such, no one is going to get good without playing. look at Cesc today, he is amazing because he has been playing regular first team football since he was 16. Ramsey and Wilshire are still both young and will both continue to become better players with regular games. we have loads of youth coming through, Chuks Aneke, Ignasi Miquel, Kyle Bartley, Ryo Miyaichi, Pedro Botelho, Emmanuel Frimpong. I will put money on it they will be in the first team in the next couple of years

I personally believe we, at the very least, should sign one CB and one DM (given that the rest of the team stay except Bendtner, Squillaci, Diaby, Denilson, Almunia, and Rosicky) to be able to challenge for trophies next season. Samba or Cahill will be great. Scott Parker will be good addition in the middle and I think he won’t cost Arsenal much.

If there is anyone i can compare to Clichy in the Premier League is Jose Enrique and i don’t think he is far better than Clichy. If it is defense you all are talking about, it is the fault of the whole team, you cannot leave the work of defense for just 4 players. As it is right now No one on the bench is threatening to unseat one of the starting eleven. We need to bring in Quality. HULK and HAZARD are two that would make us instantly better. Then Get either Sakho, Samba, or Cahill to sure up the CB position. Sell Almunia, Denilson, Bentner, Rosisky, Squilacci and Eboue because they don’t have anything left to contribute to this team.

    eden hazard- sign him
    gervinho sign him
defoe sign him – probably not likely but a really good player
an experienced gk maybe Mark Schwarzer or a major stretch would be buffon

i know this would give them a huge squad but they would have a versatile squad which can aim for a trophy in all competition and it brings in a lot of freshness to arsenal
