Sanchez Watt and Alex Song both sign new extended contracts at Arsenal, but no news on Merida

Posted on November 24, 2009 by admin

The latest young star to emerge from Arsene Wenger’s awesome academy is the 18 year-old striker Sanchez Watt. He made his first-team debut in the Carling Cup against West Brom earlier this season, and marked the occasion with his first goal for the club too.

He followed that up with another good game against Liverpool, and it seems he has done enough for Arsene Wenger to sign him up on a long-term deal, and it has been announced today that both he and Alex Song have committed their futures to Arsenal.

The agreement with Watt was given away in a statement on the official Arsenal website which read: “Arsenal Football Club is pleased to announce Sanchez Watt has signed a new extended contract with the Club.

“The pacy forward, 18, has enjoyed a strong start to the season appearing in both successful Carling Cup matches as well as all Reserve League fixtures to date, with four goals from his six starts including a brace against Birmingham at St Andrews.

“Joining the Club in the Summer of 2007, Sanchez (full name Herschel Sanchez Watt) proved his goal-scoring ability last season having a major impact on the Club’s double-winning campaign with league and FA Youth Cup victories, scoring twice in the Semi-Final before striking in both legs of the Final at Emirates Stadium.

“On the international stage the Londoner has been capped for England at both Under-17 and Under-19 levels.

“Everyone at Arsenal wishes Sanchez continued success with the Club.”

Alex Song has also been rewarded today with a new five year contract which will keep him at the club until 2015, according to The Sun, which seems to fit with Arsene Wenger’s new policy of making sure that all current players are binded to the club on long term deals, rather than enter the transfer market.

William Gallas and Thomas Rosicky are currently in talks as their contracts run out this summer, and Carlos Vela is also in negotiations despite having 18 months to go.

But still no news on Fran Merida? Time is running out to come to an arrangement as he will be allowed to talk to other clubs in just six weeks time.
