Sevilla boss unhappy that he couldn’t play Squillaci because of Arsenal bid
The Sevilla coach Antonio Alvarez was originally very annoyed that he couldn’t play the French international defender Sebastien Squillaci in Wednesdays Champions League qualifier against Braga. He has decided though to just carry on as if he wasn’t there and won’t pick him for tonights game against Barcelona either.
“I didn’t like the fact that he didn’t want to play against Braga, but the circumstances turned out that way,” he said at a press conference today.
“I wasn’t going to lose a lot of time thinking about what could happen. I turned over a new page and forgot about the issue.”
There were rumours that Squillaci’s decission not to play had caused unrest before the game, but Alvarez denied it completely.
“Nothing happened,” he said. “I got the players together, told them that Squillaci wouldn’t play and that Fazio would start in his place.
“Then we spoke about the match, said that it was going to be difficult. But the team never gave in. The players went out focused and we played a good first half.”
He was then asked if he qould bring Squillaci back for todays Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona, and he replied tersely: “He won’t play against Barcelona,”
Could it be that Squillaci has played his last game for Sevilla?

Well I hope for us and for Sevilla that AW makes the deal happen. It’s not fair for Sevilla to leave a player out so that he wouldn’t be cup tied in the anticipation that he would be bought by Arsenal – only for the deal to fall through in the end.

Great result and we should definitely celebrate. Nonetheless, I was convinced that there will be some fans who will post comments like you did.
This was against Blackpool – a team that was only just promoted to the Premier League this season. A team that was only playing with 10 men most of the game. Alumunia didn’t have anything much to do after the first 10 minutes. The real test will come when we meet stronger opponents. To be the best, you have to beat the best.
In the meantime, please put the champagne on hold.
PS (the referee should have been yellow carded for blocking wilshere hahahaha)

Hey guys
Awesome game today I have pretty much exhausted my vocabulary both in positive describing our way of playing and the performance / result, and the negative utterly burying the odd spurs mole posing as, well an illiterate moronic bottom-feeder funnily enough
I am surprised so far though that nobody has mentioned how strict the refereeing has become!!
I mean I am all for it really, since Arsenal are footballeres not wrestlers like some (ahem!! No names)
But 3 reds in the first two matches of the season? Hopefully as the players learn to act like adults (the darksided Scholes type ones according to Le Prof) the referees can once again concentrate on the flow of the game rather than watching the naughty kid looking for trouble!
Arsenal have proven they can draw when they lose momentum against a good side, even with a man sent off
Ish
Also today they proved that they can stuff the lower opposition ala ‘The Invincibles’ when they switch it on and we are firing both barrels. Albeit one with a suicidal (but noteworthy) gameplan to try to out Arsenal the Arsenal
Only Barcalona can claim to that, and only because we let the game escape from us.
Times are good, and now the results are proving how good they are; along with the fact we DO have new signing on the way to add to Chamack and Kossy (2 impressive players, both bargains value wise)
So now we have 3 more tests to pass -
Beat a team who will stick 10 behind the ball and hoof long balls and corners in for 93mins and hack your legs out – and try to keep another clean sheet. I was never his greatest fan but I think that Almunia for his faults – well he has acted impeccably and when he is eventually replaced I sincerely hope the fans give him the send of he quite obviously deserves.
He waited for years to succeed the crazy German, he never complains about our defence or that the fans blame him for pretty much everything – or the fact we are openly talking about replacing him whilst he is still no1 and wearing the armband.
Like him or loath him that is Arsenal class right there in his head, just a shame his goalkeeping talents cannot seem to match that level.
Has anybody got an Almunia shirt btw?? I saw one Eboue shirt in 2006, on a smalll little african girl
haha and was actually defending that he will come good so let’s hope he continues to improve and stop bloody diving!
Leave your googles and trunks at home, and wash that chlorine out it’s making your hair go white/grey
Hehe
Arsenal 6-0 today was all about walcott and Almunia
FINALLY a game where the TEAM stood out above any player, even though we had a clean sheet and a hat-trick.
Love it!!
Next up proving the

oh yeah 2 and 3 tests
Sorry I still haven’t slept
MINIMUM clean sheets versus lower opposition, if we don’t score against them then it is just lack of ‘sharpness’ … but there is no excuse to let in any more stupid goals now that we have Kossy and a new CB on the way.
Almunia has beaten his gremlins before I think he can do it again, and last out the next few seasons before he is replaced.
And the final thing is not drop off in the run in!!
I am so sick of seeing us wither when push comes to shove at the business end of the season – we NEED to prove as a squad that we are not just up for the battle.
Not just up for it, we relish it – fuck it man we are itching to get at those glory hunting pimp-style rich boys with their toys
This is Arsenal let’s blow them away!

On our day no one can beat us in attack! but in defense we falter every time. What i think we lack is not individual skills in defense but we dont defend as a unit. when we give the ball away..the regrouping of people in defensive formations takes a lot of time. this transition from attack to defense taking a lot of time costs us a lot in my opinion

PLEASE what are you guys thinking, we beat 10 men Blackpool for God’s sake and you think our problems are solved because Walcott had his one good game a year early on??? If there is not a (very) good GK and CB and preferably an additional holding midfielder coming we won’t win anything. Yesterday didn’t change any of this, nice to watch them beat a very naive team but we are still miiiiles off Chelsea and ManU
