SHOCK free transfer to Arsenal for Barcelona star?

Arsenal could snap up Montoya for nothing! by Ash

Arsenal Wenger and Arsenal have been associated with a lot of free transfers in recent years with the signing of several players who were out of contract. Although that might not be the case with the new club record signing of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid, Wenger still recognises a bargain when he sees one and that seems to be the case once again as he eyes up Martin Montoya from FC Barcelona. The story has spread around Europe from the Daily Mirror to Italian football websites like TuttoMercato.web.

Arsenal have already signed Yaya Sanogo and Mathieu Flamini on free transfers this summer and to be honest, both of them look to be good purchases on Wenger’s side. A deal for relatively unknown striker Marica who is out of contract after leaving Schalke in the summer is also seemingly on the cards according to Sky Sports, however perhaps like Marouane Chamakh, Wenger is going down the wrong road with this player.

And now it looks as if Wenger is lining up his next free signing in Martin Montoya from Barcelona, who will be out of contract next summer. ‘Here in the city’ isn’t a very well-known source however they as well as many others claim that the Daily Mirror has shed some light on Wenger’s latest target and the Frenchman is confident he can get his man for nothing next summer with Barcelona unlikely to renew the Spaniard’s contract.

Arsenal and Barcelona have a long standing history of European rivalry, perhaps heightened more because of the amount of transfer dealings that goes on between the two clubs. Barcelona have taken the likes of Fabregas, Henry, Song and Hleb off our hands in recent years, whilst Wenger has also had his fair share from Barcelona, the only difference is they are just unknown teenagers from the academy. The likes of Fabregas, Merida, Miquel, Toral and Bellerin have all joined the Gunners from Barca and now Montoya, who is older at 22, could be the next player to make the switch between Spain and England.

Montoya is a right back and so he could provide effective cover for someone like Sagna or even compete directly with Jenkinson however to me the fact we already have Jenkinson makes me doubt whether or not this story is true or not. It wouldn’t surprise me if Wenger did have Montoya on his target list however whether or not we really need the Barcelona man is debatable for now, especially with Bellerin also coming through the ranks.

Some fans are never happy they just want names names names naming squads that might look good on paper but in reality would it be better than what we have?

& why did you have to reply off the top comment to write that.

As much as I want him back, Cesc won’t return anytime soon. Xavi’s at the end of his career and Cesc is taking over as the main playmaker at Barça. They’ll probably offer him a new contract sometime this season. I do think he will eventually return though. He’s is and will always be a Gunner. Not like some other Dutch and French mercenaries we know…

While you’re at it why not tell Arsene to sell the entire team?

Completely agree. Bellerin will be ready in a few years. Plus Barça won’t sell Montoya because they want him as Dani Alves’ replacement. He’ll be playing more this season. Plus, do we really want him to leave us when he reaches his peak and realizes he wants to go back home?

His contract ends june14. So Barca might not have an option on whether they sell him, he could just leave if the right project comes along.

Arsenal gave chances to a lot of young players and that hasn’t always payed off. You might say the opposite happened more! I’d loan him to a team like WBA where he’d actually play and see if he comes back good enough to challenge for a spot! We’re still gambling on Sczezny to come good when Begovic is out there sitting with a 10 million sign on his chest just waiting to be grabbed. Those 10 millions are peanuts for the amount of points he will save us, when with Sczezny it’s another gamble!

We need to opt for experience if we want to win a trophy this year and Ciprian Marica is not the answer. I’d rather give Bendtner a second chance than put an aging romanian striker recently dumped by Schalke to be Girouds backup. It’s a waste of money and it took us a long time to get rid of Chamak, Arshavin, Denilson, Santos and so on and the mentioned Nick B is still around and Diaby is still payed huge money to play 10 games all season.

I think this season will be the curtains for Diaby! With the improved form of Ramsey and Ozils signing he’ll hardly find a spot even fit and firing. Hopefully it is for Park and Bendtner too, so we free up some wages for a top signing!

I think that the strikers of quality good enough for Arsenal that you and I will want at the emirates will not move in January, so unless we pay 100 millions for Suarez i hardly see us bringing someone worth the money. I’m disappointed we didn’t activate Jackson Martinezs clause of 40 mill. euro. Add Begovic and Ozil signing and we would’ve easily been title favorites while now there are still some things to ask for but at least we can be optimistic !

enough man, enough…transfer window is closed, don’t give me (us) stress. Barca will be stupid to let him go for free.

    lets talk about ozil rather.

Montoya is quality, but Bellarin is our biggest youth talent with Zelalem and Gnabry.
Would imagine Sagna (a wenger favourite) will have 1/2 more seasons then Bellarin will take over

The tickets arent on sale yet, and when they do you have to be a member of Arsenal to buy them (may well be sold out before they go on general sale) red membership is like £25 i think (im assuming you arent a season ticket holder). Tickets will be like £90, but its the flight thats the bi*ch

Montoya is quality featured 24 times for barca last season I reckon he’ll sign a new contract for barca before the end of the season would be a great addition, I’d say our defence just need one more central defender but it all depends on what Wenger wants to do with Sagna in using him more as a centre-Bac also I could see Jenkinson moving to a central position being such a big lad.

Bellerin is very young and although he looked quality he’s a good two or three seasons away from being first team quality.

Make sagna signing a new contract a priority.

Just stupid rumours. I’m 100percent sure Wenger will only add to our sqaud in January. Ozil was the cherry on the cake, no more trimmings please.

Barça is not gonna sell any defenders any time soon. Montoya is going to be Dani Alves’ replacement in a few more years. Plus, do we really want him to leave us when he reaches his peak and realizes he wants to go back home? Let’s find our own players.

We need to prove we are title contenders by going on a strong run until January we have a reasonably okay run to January and then if we can spend the other ‘£40million’ in January why can’t we be EPL champs

We always seem to be looking abroad , foreign players always have one eye back home.
There must be young players in the championship with potential too.

I didn’t really get the fuss about James McCarthy but Tom Ince looks interesting and I’ve heard Jordan Rhodes is one to watch.

Even the oldies like Shay Given and Richard Dunne could have been got for nothing and would have been good back up in a depleted squad.

      @FT
I totally agree dude. Shay Givens could have taught our keepers a helluva lot. And Richard Dunne is still a damn beast who reads the plays like he wrote em. He would have turned Kos&Mert into heathens that even Stoke would have been afraid off…
I’m not sold on Ince, yet. But I’ve always wondered why the England national team or even some of the top4 EPL teams never poaches some of the raw talent from the Championship. What a waste…
