Should Arsenal have kept Nicklas Bendtner in hindsight?
It was not too long ago, in the 2007/2008 where Nicklas Bendtner netted his first goal for Arsenal in a 7-0 rout of Slavia Prague in the Champions league, then he had a loan spell at Birmingham before officially being part of Arsenal’s first team. Since Bendtner was in the first team, he has had plenty of chances especially due to constant injuries of Van Persie and Adebayor, but he had not taken them well and was prone to missing chances in front of goal, which led to Arsenal dropping many points and missing out on the title in 2008.
However, Bendtner insisted on playing first team football despite not delivering at the highest level. His over confidence angered many gunners’ fans and he slowly got on the nerves of Arsene. His performance level had dropped significantly since and is currently at a loan spell at Sunderland. Bendtner has also stated some time back that he would never play for Arsenal again, further expressing his unhappiness.
With Arsenal’s lack of striking options lately, was letting Bendtner go the right decision? Chamakh and Park have been putting in below par performances in their league cup matches and when called upon in the premier league, they disappointed as well. The question is remains: Would Bendtner have been better?
I feel that the main problem of keeping Bendtner would be that he has to play often, or he would be unhappy. With Van Persie being in such a scintillating form, would anyone in the right frame of mind play Bendtner ahead of the Flying Dutchman. Thus I feel that letting Bendtner off was the right choice by Wenger.
Still, perhaps Bendtner would be a top class player in future. However, I would stick to Wenger’s decision on this one.

It’s players like Bendtner who Must leave Arsenal. Denilson is another, these two have publicly stated they want to leave. Arsenal must not hand these two any more chances at Arsenal ever again. They have a detrimental effect on the players at Arsenal who really play hard to be an Arsenal player. They have had their chance, now they must go.

seydou doumbia will solve our striking worries with ease. This guy has been the most effective triker in europe for the past 3 years. He scored 92 goals in 119 appearances. You may argue but please watch this guy at least before you talk. Vagner love was shifted away from the CF role just for this guy. He is very complete as a striker

he did the feat in 2 different clubs and leagues. If you think the league are not difficult then here are my points
1) you can’t score that much with out knowing one or two thing about putting the ball behind the net with relative ease
2) if you think the league are not good so are the players assisting him therefore he must have a very good positional sense
3)he has been a target for defenders due to him being prolific and yet he keep scoring
4) 1/3 of those apperances are as a subtitute
osaze odewinge who scored 15 goals for WBA last season and he score 21 goals in 3 years in the russian league and doumbia broke the record of already with 29 goals and the season is not yet over

i watched a documentary today which prove to me that wenger is our solution at arsenal and also our major problem. Andre ashavin is an AM who play from 17 years old in the role popurlarly called the hole in a 433 formation and currently occupied by the dynamic and yet incosistent ramsey. Ashavin ought to be like iniesta, van der vaart, ozil. And he perform well for russia yet wenger play him as a winger. When redknapp tried it with RVD he complained bitterly. We played him in that position once against bolton and he was the man of the match

yea why not against wigan wenger try these position;
szc
kos-mert-tv5-santos
song-arteta
walcot-arshavin-gervinho
rvp
or try that on the scond half f we goes on fully atacking n start as usual with ramsey.f the rsult stil the same til the half time.bring on arshavin in the centra atacking role to go for fully attacking.hpefuly wenger prepared hes tactics right.dnt wnt to underestimate wigan since they’re playing home evntho their form is bad.dnt wnt to waste yet points such as what we does against fulham.we’re playing that at home.we shud go fully atacking in the first half so it wud b easier to jst cntrup the game n finished it.
prediction guys?? hpe we back on track these week.

what?bendtner?? who is he??he is a sunderland player, please just go. and chamakh is a quality player,no ofence, jst dnt suit us without fabregas to gves quality pass.he wud good to b back at french.wenger could trade him with either what you mention up there doumbia or sow. bendtner permanently go so what if go for one more podolski which cud play deep too similarly like rvp.park?dnt see him hving hes chances, myb left with 1 yr+ in cntract.
bt most likely wenger wud nly go for one these january.
bendtner,chamakh permanently out..
so podolski, sow, doumbia on wenger top list of striker. what do u guys think u prefered most for these january??for me ”podolski! enough said.

I’d rather have bendtner than chamakh, he puts in more effort and is more of a goal threat. Should have sold chamakh and
kept Bendtner
Opinions divided. What do you think?

The current problem is not the striker but rather the midfield. Unable to service striker. RVP can mask this problem due to his superior ball handling skills against lesser caliber opponents but does not suit a chamakh type of striker
r who relies a lot on Team work. THE Current midfield has fallen back to a more defensive role starring Song. I agree that Arshevin should be tested as creative midfield while Wenger can look for a true #10 in January. Alternatively RVP himself could play #10 but this requires a more solid defense in the back four.

@ Passcloud What problem? Our midfielders are putting the balls in, and RvP is netting them? You are basically saying that our midfield is useless and that AFC is a one man team. Most of RvP’s goals have come from assists, not solo work. We manage to score an average of 1 to 2 goals every game. Our problem is not offensive, it is our defense that are conceding too many goals. 5 – 3 against chelsea. 8 – 2 against united. 4 – 3 against blackburn, 2 – 1 against spurs. The results speak for themselves. We need to tighten our defense.

yes we should have kept him..bentdner did have his faults like anyone else but he was a good player..at one point his goals were carrying the team near the end of the season..he can score and wenger didnt give him a good enough chance..he kept playing him on the wing..and i guarantee that if he started against barca last year in the away leg we would have won that game
we need a big guy like bendtner but one that is also good on the ball and who is fast..bendtner has all of these qualities chamakh doesnt..neither does damiao..a guy like dzeko is perfect for arsenal. big, quick, and good on the ball. someone like huntelaar maybe etc…
i find a lot of arsenal fans dont really kno who the actual good players are on the team..arshavin may not be the best when coming back but in an attacking sense hes miles ahead of gervinho yet everyone wants arshavin out..van persie is in a good run of form but he isnt the great striker that we all think he is..look at who he scores against most of the time and look at the types of goals he scores..all 3 goals at chelsea were sitters..hes not someone like cavani (a born finisher) so we cant solely rely on him and make him the god of our team..im not saying he isnt great or instrumental im just trying to be realistic..
regardless i think we have a decent team..we need wingback badly..koscielny showed against city that he is top class, vermaelen as well, and once per adjusts our central defence will be fantastic..sagna is great as a defensive wing back, andre santos provides a good attacking option, miquel played fantastic against city as well. jenkinson doesnt cut it just yet but he is young, and djourou is garbage..
If we can get a playmaker or a strong force in the midfield like jovetic, a back up striker (or make park bench striker instead of chamakh) and maybe one wingback (or just start using miquel) then we will definately have at least one trophy by the end of this season

and one more thing..wenger is a great tactician, and has a great eye for talent..but his player selection at times is terrible. not playing bergkamp in the champions league final for example. the main thing about wenger is he doesnt treat players well. arshavin practically single handedly saved us against barca last year in the champions league. the moment he went on arsenal were a completely different team. instead of rewarding this player for his great peformance, he benches him in the return leg and played rosicky (who was terrible that game). he does this to players all the time and its no wonder you see players publicly bashing the team. A guy like chamakh didnt deserve 90 mins against city..he had multiple chances, he ruined every play and every pass that was sent to him was practically lost. however arshavin in his 5 mins had a decent strike, and made a nice pass to gervinho which lead to the cross that chamakh missed (surprise there)..but will you see arshavin start or even get more than 15 mins in the next game?

No no no,we don’t need Bendtner any more. The guy said so much ill of my darling club that tried to make him somebody.Let him take Sunderland to UCL first. How many goals has he scored this season despite playing regularly?
Wenger should give Oxlad greater opportunities than relying on Chamak or Park.

play arshavin as a #10 and we will see positive results of him he is a natural playmaker just look when he plays for russia or when he used to play for zenit but im just gonna say this i think he is tired to be treated like a garbage player.. we have garbage players of course chamakh, djourou and rosicky they just not fit to this club but its just my humble opinion GUNNER4LIFE!!!!

Never keep a player who doesn’t want to be at the club. Bendtner’s made no effort to hide his desire to leave, and it’s not worth keeping any player that doesn’t want to be here. Wenger never has for good reason. Just ask Anelka, Petit, Hleb, Cesc, Nasri etc etc.

Alex i disagree with u over van persie, he is a very proficient & efficient striker. I also believe that wenger is in a better position to play the most in-form players. So don’t criticise our players, they are doing well. Just give them ur support.

totally agree with you about doumbia. I think he can be world class. He is a very complete forward but sadly he would have to go to ACON. Either Doumbia, Podolski or Soldado for back-up for RVP + Vertonghen and maybe De Rossi
