Should Frimpong start alongside Song against Stoke?
With Stoke’s football being labelled as similar to ‘rugby’ by Wenger and many other footballing parties, Arsenal’s match with the Potters will undoubtedly consist of the usual physicality and frenzy increasingly seen in this fixture.
Arteta has shown signs of progress but still looks occasionally immobile and with Wilshere still out, it would be great to have some real grit back in the midfield. Song has shown signs of this but his attacking abilities have become significant in Arsenal’s play. Therefore, would Frimpong be a viable option to play Stoke at their own game?
As shown in the match against Liverpool – in which he got sent off – Frimpong has a phenomenal passion for the game and has a point to prove after perhaps not playing as many games as he and others expected him to this season. His willingness to take down players could surely not be more useful than in a game against a team that is arguably over-physical against the Gunners.
The Potters might be expecting to battle their way through our midfield, but if Frimpong was deployed instead of Arteta, for example, this task would be made significantly tougher, especially with Song alongside him.
Another argument for this change would be Djourou at right-back. Despite what was a near-faultless cameo there against Marseille on Wednesday night, the last time he played there – in the defeat against Blackburn – he was shaky, and so Frimpong could provide that extra support just in case Sunday’s performance doesn’t match up to the one in France.
After speaking of a potential squad rotation for this week, should Wenger give Frimpong a run out?

i think frimpong should not play that match cos it will leave the attacking arsenal helpless and he holds on to the ball likewise song so we are left with one ball distributor..coquelin as been a good passer and a good ball winner playing along will be more comforting…it will be nice to one of our players that have not played so much this season like oxlade park ryo to threaten the potters defence..;

No. We are 1000 times better than Stoke and we are at home – no need to bolster the midfield. With a midfield of Song, Arteta/Rosicky and Ramsey we will hold the ball a lot more and have more of an attacking threat.
One of the best methods of defence is to not let the other team have the ball, and by playing a more defensive midfield we are only inviting Stoke onto us.
A good suggestion for other, harder, away games though.

We should not play defensively at home. We need to attack. Have song protect the back four and use arteta/ramsey/rosicky/coquilan as our two attacking midfielders. We need to win this game and will will stunt our attacking strength if we let frimpong play.

Frimpong shouldn’t play because he’s a grafter like song but unlike song doesn’t have the composure and song himself doesn’t have the same composure like Arteta does.
You need a combination of robust attrition type of player in the midfield plus a bit of flair, composure and grace.
Ideally it would be better to play a five man midfield with Song Arteta, Coquelin, in the more central of that midfield, with Gervinho on one wing and chamberlain on the other.
Remember it’s not only the likes of the more central stoke midfield you have contain it’s their wider players too….especially Etherington, he needs to have someone to pen him back by going at him and you’re not gonna get that with Walcott or Arshavin.
At least with Gervinho and Chamberlain the can press forward keeping the wide stoke players at bay whilst at same time supporting a lone striker such as RVP.
To have frimpong in a more stalwart midefield would put Arsenal on a hiding to nothing as we’d play straight into stokes hands and come down to their level……at which they would excel over ninety minutes.

frimpong should not be included in this fixture anyway as a starter…we have to rotate but is this the right time ?…i think its time we droped theo from the squad and put aoc, oxlade form presently is not what we should debate about he can provide scoring chances, take on as many defenders as possible and he as proven to be a great scorer 2 goals in 2 games that he has started…gervinho too will be a great threat to the potters….for rotation wise i think we should give this young players a chance….

Total misunderstanding the article and suggestion therin.
Frimpong introduction does not suggest a defencive inclination but to fight fire with fire. I can imagine some of Stoke players will come with preconceptions of “soft Goons” would need a bit of squeezing that you man appear to have in abundance. 2 players would need roughing: Pennant and Etherington. Do that and we may have a calmer afternoon. Thats all the author was saying, if I understood him correctly.

Coquelin should play with Song and Arteta in midfield, and I’d be tempted to play ramsey instead of one of the wingers, in more of a free role. He’s not done well in CM recently, and he has shown for Wales that he is good when given freedom to attack.

I equally will go with couquelin & song in MF, but if the game gets rough,we bring in frimpong & also we need 2 be faster on the wings dt will slow down ethrington & pennant.Also the defence needs 2 be up &doing due 2 headers &delap’s throws.I suggest Rvp don’t start unless we wish 2 play the sweeper system

We need a workhorse in the midfield. As far as I’m concerned Frimpong should play as physically he is a machine and can dominate. I pull Song in defense and play Koss RB. I would play the Ox LW and Walcott RW, seeing if we are playing Frimpong in MF, we will need to be able to counterattack very well, and those two as we know are probably the two quickest players in the premier league. Stoke always play a very congested game, so having two fast wingers would be a great benefit, then RvP to finish off the crosses. Let’s just hope Walcott has his crossing boots on this time.
I would play Frimpong and Arteta in the MF, as Arteta is also no ones bitch. He may look a bit flimsy but he is pretty tough and skillful. He can initiate the counters. Then up front RvP and Gervinho to net.

Frimpong plays with such heart. If you have seen him play, you will also say he gives 110%. Put him in. What do we have to lose? Games like Stoke ar the only place we can blood our new players – otherwise where are the alternatives …. Chelsea? Liverpool? …. We saw what happen against Manurenited!
We should be playing kids like Frimpong & Ox-Camberlin against teams like Stoke, Sunderland, QPR, Wolves etc. In the grand scheme of things, we have very little to lose, and lots to gain from strengthening the depth of our team. Otherwise, we will burn out our A team players to fatigue or injury. And I believe these kids want it too. They are hungry to show what they can do. If we balance our squad right (on the day), we can achieve a win and develop the talent we have coming through the team.

i like the idea of le coq in midfield…but i am also still pushing for arsharvin to get a run in the attacking mid position, yes he would have to work his ass off but he can and he is our most creative player!

the attack is very well balanced between direct play (gervinho) and creativity in RvP and Benny. The midfield is tough, i like both and having le coq in gives a little more stability, but i really think arshavin needs a chance in the middle and could show his worth and the creativity we lack, also mikael has been amazing defensively and helps a lot in that respect. Wenger though will prob give the start to ramsey (i think rosicky will get a rest) and i’ll support that, hopefully the goal will boost his confidence, although i still think he could be used well off the bench in this game along with theo, and maybe the ox.
RvP must start this game, we need him and he will get the whole next week off, maybe sub him after 60 if things go well.
i think 2-0 here with another solid building performance; i look forward to this one!!

No doubt we need an agresive player against stoke, but playing Fringpon could just result to another red card. I think Song is more caculative and still agresive, pair him a more skillfull and attackin midfield like Couquelin, rest R.v.p and play Chaberlin.

Frimpong is good,however hes RAW as of now ,doesnt have that maturity and composure as song does.which he’ll learn with time..for this game 4-1-4-1 formation is fine….with song as DM an arteta,rosicky,ramsey,coqulein in MF and rvp/chamakh upfront…result of this match will depend a lot on the way per and kos perform.
