Should Wenger pay Nasri £110,000 a week?
Samir Nasri and his agent have been in contract talks with Arsenal, as the Gunners try to persuade him to sign an extension to his contract.
Wenger admitted that the disagreement was financial when he said: “We’ve got a little financial disagreement but I’ll try to make Nasri sign a new contract. I’ll work on that this summer,”
According to the Mail the difference is that Arsenal are offering to pay the 23 year-old £90,000 a week, but Nasri is asking for £110,000 a week. Now for someone who earns £20,000 a YEAR, I find it a little obscene that anyone wants that much MORE every single week, but I guess that is what football is about nowadays…(sigh!)
So back to the question. Should Wenger tell Nasri to accept £90,000 or he will be sold, or should he cave in and give him what he asks for?

obviously we want to pay as little as possible because that extra 20,000 a week adds up to over £1m a year and on a 5 year contract thats an extra £5m lost which otherwise could have been spent on transfers.
that said Nasri is class and we shouldnt lose him. Personally id try and persuade Nasri to have a lower wage so we can invest the other money in the squad but if push comes to shove i would cave into his demands – he’s too good to lose at this stage when our squad is close to becoming winners.

Yes. I dont see us being able to bring in anyone who could replace Nasri, fit straight into the squad, adjust to the league who we wont be spending more on anyway.

Let him not armtwist the club. He isn’t bigger than Arsenal. Even Manu moved on after letting go of Beckam, van Nilsteroy and CR7. Anyone who’s not happy can leave and we remain with the loyal people like RVP

Other clubs are paying considerably more to players of lesser abilities, I personally think paying them sums to players is obscene. Hey but this is what football has come to. Let me put it to u like this, if u and your best friend were doing the same job but for different companies, yet he was getting twice the amount u was getting in salary, would you be HAPPY?? or would you want to move to his company?? We will never attract or keep the best payers of the world if we don’t change our wage structure!! We need to get rid of all the deadwood to free up sum cash to keep the Nasri’s of the world at Arsenal fc.

There is no meaning to increase +20000 which is bigger than Fabregas! Ofkos Nasri is 2nd best of arsenal but doesnt mean increase against club policy. He can leave. Make sure he is going to german, italian or spainish. We dont want him to be in England after selling. He is no bigger than Arsenal. Fabregas was paid 50000 when he was in same stage of career. Now Fabregas is Legend and Arsenal paid him salary difference as 3 million package in one shot + raised his salary to 80000. Nasri can expect similar but not 1100000 directly before getting legendry player like Fabregas.

It’s big spending clubs that spoil the wage game for every player. Everyone dreams of getting a man city salary of over 150K a week, and it’s obscene! I know football has come to this point where players are more of entertainers that athletes and get “hollywood” wages but that doesn’t make it right..If Nasri gets his 110K then Walcott will demand more, Song will demand more, hell even Sczcesny will demand more.. I’ll have to agree with Pete Maina that you can only count on loyal players like RvP nowadays. I don’t want to lose Nasri and I know Wenger doesn’t either. But that also means that we can’t make a world class transfer and pay him 100K a week. Let’s see how the transfer period goes through..

pay the dude the money so he can continue playing for us. this is the same thing that happened with Mathieu Flamini and a void was left, which was not filled on time. I don’t think Nasri should arm-twist Arsenal…but we shouldn’t be too stingy. Less quality players are earning more in other teams eg…Ade8@40r and the like. Anyway, even if he desides to leave (i hope not though)we’ve survived worse.
Cheers y’all.

Don’t pay it if it breaks the wage structure. If it does and he wont budge, sell him.
It’s hugely important Wenger keeps a wage structure in place and is doing exactly the right thing.
Anyone that says otherwise has no financial sense.
It can cause massive unrest in the dressing room. Even though it may mean we lose our best players. The reason we need a rigid structure is two fold. To be in line with UEFA on financial outlay rules which will become more relevant in the years ahead and also to stop the whole squad doing the same thing everytime a player renegotiates a contract.
Instead, there should be performance related pay based on wins, goals and trophies. This would be as a result of both indiviual and collective team efforts.
This is a real dilemma I know but the only people that benefit from these situations are the Agent and player and not the club as your seats will cost more and more with no guarantee of success.

this is a very critical situation if nasris wage is increased by 20000 pounds then about 10 more players like rvp, theo, sagna, jack wolfman, ramsey,tv,arsha, song wil follow up when their contracts need to get extended in such a case in abt 5-10 years which could be the time to renew all these player contracts it will be a loss of abt 50-80 million pounds during the mentioned time assuming this cycle continues thats why wenger is thinking a lot overall 4 al the player wages it might cost 200 m pds within 5 years thats what wenger sees i say we can afford to lose 100 m pds 4 player wages in 5 years but anyway what do i know?lets hope he keeps nasri at the moment winning trophys is more important GUNNERS 4 LIFE

@baz 1)if your salary was 90 grand a week but your friend got more; its 90 effing grand, why the hell would you want more, you can get everything he gets.
2)most ordinary people work for money, this guys works for a good career and to leave his mark on football.
3)every ordinary employee aren’t suppose to be loyal, as they work for money, however if they worked to give your company a name then they should be loyal.
nasri is a football player whos job is supposed to be something he loves, not something he is paid to do. if hhe leaves coz hes on 90 grand a week and thats too low for him, then he’s not a loyal player who would put in 200% every week for the club. he’ll gain the mentality that: losing doesn’t bother me coz im still paid.
always remeber ordinry people want money to survive, this guys wants money so he can have a golden toilet.

i meant that the increase in wages in 5 years should be less than 100 m pds may be i m wrong it should be less than 50 per 5 years generally per each year arsenal spend 150-200 m pds on player wages it should not exceed 225 m pds within the next 5 years thus protecting our wage structure but imagine the dream world we live in if this system continues and we also be winning trophys at the same time GO GOONERS

You have to give him it. I’m always amazed at arsenal the players we manage to keep on such low wages when you think of what other teams, even in our own league, would pay them.
Torres’ wage is over double van persie’s, and rooneys over triple, but did either of them score as many goals as him?
On the nasri point, I think we need to pay him that much to keep him, given a team like man city pay yaya toure twice as much. If we don’t, it is not surprising that he would want to leave, many top English Italian and german sides could Manage to pay him double! I also want fab to hurry up and leave, it makes a big difference to nasri and his role in the team, because let’s face it, he’s wasted on the wing. I also think we can stop quibbling over £20k to nasri if fab fetches 45m+.
Also just offer him 100 and meet him halfway.

Its time we stop being mean and miser, pay them well. Nasri is good. he should be paid well. Football is about money, thats why gate charges were increased. if we really need trophies next season we need to look at how our neighbours did. Manchester accepted Rooneys demands, they came out with the league, Manchester City splashed money, they came out with the FA Cup. We are spending nothing, we come out with nothing every season. we are afraid of signing Good players to our team because we are afraid of the demands for higher wages and the good players are not willing to come to our team. Arsenal Charges more and so have more gate collections and can pay there players well. They should pay there players well not only the share holders becaurse fans come to the stadium to watch them the players and not the share holders. Wenger Go deep into your pockets to pay the boys well and to buy the best. Imagine We have become a team which can be sure whether a win agains stoke is outright or not, this’ a shame for us. Some funs in my country have committed suicide, some have hit others with empty bottles on their opponents heads all in frustration. To some of us Football is a religion and Arsenal as a team is our Church.

I would offer him the £110,000 a week but then tie him in to a longer deal, 7 years instead of 5 as I think Nasri will only get better. That way we don’t have to renegotiate for atleast 5 years. If he signs a 5 year deal we’ll be renegotiating with him again in only 3 years time and will have to pay him even more to keep him.

Isn’t this why they increased the ticket prices at the Emirates? The money that they pay the players nowadays in any sport are incredible. Lets not forget though that the Club makes millions upon millions each year off of licensing and merchandising on the players so those extra 20k a week while a large amount of money in todays market isn’t out of the ordinary and last time i checked Arsenal are the 3rd richest club in the world. Pay the guy make him happy show some intent for next season. I sure don’t want him to leave and it will make it all the worse if it was over a 20k dispute per week. This is such a silly conversation. Football players are celebrities and entertainers. Their wages cannot be compared to a common man. A lot of other people in those categories earn a whole lot more. I live in the states and it shocks me sometimes how little soccer players earn to american sportsmen. Ofcourse we should pay whatever nasri is asking. We can’t sell a player everytime a player develops into worldclass. Look at how much chelsea, united, liverpool, real Madrid, barcelona pay their players. Fans want the club to be on par with those clubs then you have to pay those wages simple as that. you can’t have it both ways.

we can refuse to pay him that, but there 15 more other clubs that will pay him that sum and probably even more. Obviously we should pay him that, and eventually do the same to van persie and wilshere. Nasri, Van persie, Fabregas and Wilshere (later) deserve a salary like that, and i would definetely not break any bank or put us in jeopardy.
With salaries of 110,000, we might start to think of players like benzema coming to the emirates, at 90,000 nobody will come only guys pretending to make a transition.

So many posters on here would bankrupt a club within 5 minutes. You should go and support Leeds.
Wenger has it right here. This is one of the few occasions that I actually agree with his stance.
I shall explain to you why rather than just stating “those who shout pay the man what he wants are complete idiots!”
You really don’t think we are only paying 90k a week to these players do you?
If you do then you are very naive and probably believe everything you read in the tabloids.
The masking of salaries has gone back to “pre Vieira” times under Wenger.
There are certain tax loopholes that allow clubs to avoid their players paying tax to the Inland Revenue.
For instance, They are using complex tax avoidance schemes that allows them receive earnings from image rights into a ‘shell’ company, where they pay business, rather than personal, tax rates.
Theo Walcott has TJW (Promotions). They launch their own companies eligible to take image rights payments after the 50p top rate tax was announced.
The players have two contracts with their clubs. They get a salary as a player and the other is for ‘image rights’ – earnings from shirts and other merchandising.
These royalties are paid into a company which is only liable for 22 per cent corporation tax rather than the 50 per cent income tax.
And they can take out loans from their companies where they only pay two per cent tax on the sum because it is regarded as a benefit in kind.
Also the club use EFRBS – employer-financed retirement benefit schemes – in order to make their offers to players even more attractive. Completely legal, the scheme allows players to sacrifice up to 50 per cent of their wages at source to be placed in a trust that is set aside for their retirement.
Now if you are still with me this is where the issue lies. The players want more of that money now rather than have the huge lump sum at retirement. Remember, retirement isn’t 65 for them.
To make matters worse some have the front to declare themselves non-domiciled or claiming non-resident status by commuting in and out of Britain for matches and training sessions.
These tax breaks have helped to attract some of the world’s best footballers to Britain, but also mean that, despite their multi-million-pound earnings, many of them are paying lower rates of tax than you the supporters.
In total, over 302 footballers and managers have “non-domiciled” status in Britain and a further 67 claim they are “not resident”, according to Treasury documents released under the Freedom of Information Act.
So please don’t feel sorry for Nasri…..Players are now mercenaries and we should ensure the club is protected for the long term not for the moment.

We are still not able to replace so many talented players we lost in the past.has wenger himself said, we need to strenthen the team and the way to do it is not by letting the strogger players go away because they ask for the raise of their salary.I understand that Nasri deserves to be paid $100.000

I find it funny and somewhat idiotic that you’re all demanding Wenger stops being tight and start spending more money. Now that it will take an extra 5m over five years to keep an amazing, world class footballer in Nasri you’re all bitching and complaining that he shouldn’t give him 110k a week. These days, it takes those sorts of salaries to be competitive at the top. That’s the way it is. Anyway, if we sell Nasri now with a year on his contract we’ll get between 10 and 15m. Who would be an immediate replacement that price at 90k a week? Name one. An established, world class player of the same or higher quality who fits perfectly into our system and has Premier League experience. Nasri is just that good it is not worth bitching over 5m over five years. Get the deal done and contract signed, unless you want to sell, save money and buy a cheaper, inferior replacement or bring a youth product up. You can’t have it both ways.

NASRI IN ARSENAL DESERVES THE HIGHEST PAY, BUT IF IN ANOTHER CLUB IN ENGLAND,HE DESERVES MORE THAN 200000-A-WEEK. HE IS THE REVELATION OF ARSENAL THESE JUST CONCLUDED SEASON, AND IF YOU WANT TO SEE MORE IN HIM,PAY HIM TO PLAY FOR THE PRICE. 110000 IS A CHICKEN FEE FOR A PLAYER OF SUCH WORTH.

Enough of these chicken play. there are lots of player eraning above IIOk and they cant put up Nasri’s performance (check City Players. Wenger should better wake up from his unending dream & accept the offer b4 serious club rise to capitalize on this negotiation to offer Nasri 150k & above. Afterall, he will sign for the next 5years and bet me, That 110k will look very small in the next 2years. Common gunners, are we at the verge of loosing our star player? Wenger has prove very stubborn in issues like this, and his resilience in his stubborness cost us Flamini – U remember.

Wenger out!!!!!!!! Spend or leave!!!!! Sack the board! They think they are cleaver taking our money!! And the money for all the sale of players! But in 2-3 years the stadium will be half empty! 15 of my mates haven’t renewed their season tickets and alot of people are not this year!!!

No No NO !!!! Nasri can go some other club and get his big money. He is a good player BUT not worth 110 pounds a week, Hell no!!!
I hope he knows that other clubs in Europe are not so forgiving when players play rubbish because unlike wenger other managers are under pressure for results hence YOU will get Benched
