Should Wenger sign the Arsenal legend Thierry Henry just for January?
The Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has reaffirmed his love for the club when the Gunners honoured the Frenchman with a statue at the Emirates, and is currently keeping fit in the MLS close season by training with Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger has already stated that he will be short of strikers when both Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh are sent off to the African Cup of Nations in January, so surely it makes sense for Arsene to sign Henry as a short-term backup in case Van Persie and Park both get injuries during that time, rather than buy yet another permanent squad member?
With that in mind, Wenger was asked if he would take Henry back on loan, and he certainly didn’t rule it out when he replied: Asked whether Henry could sign on loan, Wenger said: “At the moment, Thierry Henry just practices with us. I haven’t even investigated that.
“I cannot tell you even if there is a chance because I haven’t even made any approach, not to him nor his club.”
Wenger also revealed yesterday that he thought Henry was still good enough and fit enough to play in the Premier League so it seems like it is a match made in heaven.
I was lucky enough to be at the Emirates Cup in pre-season when Henry played for the Red Bulls and it was revealed that the club had tried to arrange for Henry to play half the game for Arsenal, but the referee ruled it out completely.
Just imagine if Henry came on in a full Premier League match instead at the Emirates. The crowd would go wild! And it would be great for the Arsenal youngsters (and Van Persie?) to see the way that true Arsenal legends are treated…..

it would be epic to see him come on the pitch and play for us again , and his bhunger to score goals for us will be there as he has a record to improve on and we all know what henry is like when in the mood , it would not be a bad signing at all .

For long term reasons I would much prefer Podolski, as would Wenger. However I must admit the idea of Henry back on the pitch amongst us under the same coach brings a smile only football can bring.

As a player he is a shadow of his former self. He would be unable to track back and mark, his touch and vision would be good. Can you imagine Arshavin and Henry in the same team…who would do the work?

I think 16 goals over 2 seasons in the MLS says it all, thanks but no thanks. Let use all look fondly back at a Henry at his peak in the red and white and not a has been pull the shirt back on once more!

at the moment the main cover for the front 3 (walcott, rvp, gervinho) is arshavin, chamakh and park. well for me henry is better than all 3, he can play all of the front 3 positions and just the buzz of having him around will really lift the fans especially at home.
if u think of that front 6, gervinho and chamakh will be away, at the acn, so bringing in henry and chamberlain to the fold will IMO make us stronger.
However, i would still like to see us sell arshavin, chamakh and park bringing in 3 new strikers.

It would be like getting Christopher Reeve to come back as superman.
If he comes back and doesnt preform it could kill his Legend status. Let him be remembered for what he is. And when he retires give him a higher role in the club.

@Andy for me at least, it’s not all about money… even if he is worse than arshavin i’d still be happy when he plays for arsenal…

I think Arsene should sign him if he doesn’t get anyone e.g. Podolski in the Transfer Window. If not I’m sure Arsenal can sign him to coach strikers at Arsenal(which could help Park & Chamakh gain form & help Theo in his decision making).

Sign him. Imagine the confidence boost it would add to our evergrowing confidence.

Above is Correct. Henry is a legend and im sure still can do a good job, bnuut id rather remember him fondly as arguably the best striker in the world over his golden spell.
But I think signing him as a coach would be the best thing we cold do to bolster the confidence of our up-and-coming attacking talents such as walcott, AOC and even Miyachi

I think it would be awesome to bring back Henry.. Just his presence around the club could spark some real gunners spirit that has been lacking in the last few years.
I think we should also get a new replacement for arshavin as extra backup..i have no ill feelings against him, he did ok and sometimes was brilliant but its the right time IMO for someone new.

There would be pros and cons to it. On one hand it would nice to have his passion, experience and quality to impress on the younger players. On the other hand it definitely wouldn’t be the Henry of old. He’s not as fast as he used to be but his vision is still there. He’s lost a step but he would provide a few goals which is more than Chamakh & Arshavin are providing and one will be gone.
I’d rather take Brek Shea if we’re looking at an MLS loan player. Landon Donovan just signed for Everton again. Maybe if arsenal could get Jozy Altidore on loan.
I’d much rather we find and sign a permanent player. Podolski or Loic Remy

Personally, I feel that we should sign podolski, gotze and vertonghen this coming January. And when the time comes, sign Henry as a higher role player in Arsenal. Example, an attacking coach perhaps.

I’m more worried about the burn out effect. Year in, year out….when it comes to Feb, when we should be on fifth gear, we start changing down instead. Why don’t we buffer the tea with a striker and a midfielder to keep your tempo high? Haven’t we learnt anything from the last seasons yet? This issue of ‘I have full faith in the team’, which team then disappoints, is not cool at all.

WE SHOULD ALL STOP THINKING WTIH OUR HEARTS AND THINK WITH OUR HEADS!
As much as I agree with many fans wanting our hero back, we need to assess the long term not the short term. I believe Henry’s return will depend on whether we sell Chamakh or Arshavin in the winter. If we don’t then Henry won’t be coming back to Arsenal. If we do then, Wenger would most likely take him on loan and buy another striker. We forget that loan deals aren’t great because it disrupts the team when really we should be preparing for a big clash with AC Milan in February. Our team needs to understand each other and having new players coming in, this takes time. You can’t expect Henry to make the same impact as he did years ago. He’s no longer as quick and even the legend needs time to understand the players playing with him.
Really i think the Henry deal would pull us back instead of moving forward as a club. We need to invest in the future and part of that comes with buying fresh legs and getting this team where it should be in May. If the loan deal for Henry extended to the rest of this season, then I would say yes bring our boy home. Frankly a 6 week spell isn’t long enough. We do need to think about his current fitness levels and when he would be ready to suit up.

This would be one of the most wise moves made by Wenger. I’ve felt left-down by Thierry since he chose the money, yet the way he always talks – he always talks about ARSENAL as he still is a part of the team – made me reconsider my feelings about him. No doubt he will always be welcomed home, even as an “enemy”, but he could give some experienced advices to our young cannons, a much-needed thing. I’m still waiting for the king to come home and pair with the non-flying dutchman in our coach-staff.

In short time it’s more effective to sign King Henry than sign new striker. Even podolski or huntelaar need time to gel with team. Le Prof, please sign The King.
