So how many Arsenal fans would swap Wenger for Mourinho?
I guess everyone has seen the yearly rumours linking Arsene Wenger with a move to Real Madrid, after it has been revealed that Jose Mourinho is not getting on very well with his players, and he was even (like Wenger) abused by the Real Madrid fans despite his team being five points clear of Barcelona in La Liga.
Mourinho said: “I’m not bothered by the whistles at me,’ he said. ‘It’s not a problem. It’s the first time it’s ever happened to me. There’s a first time for practically everything.
“(Zinedine) Zidane was whistled at here. Ronaldo has been whistled at here. Cristiano (Ronaldo), who is the latest Golden Boot winner, has also been whistled at. Why can’t I?
“Zidane responded with his football, the same as Ronaldo and Cristiano. I work hard to be able to respond like they did some day, but there may come a day when the fans are sad.”
As Wenger is also coming under fire from Gooners everywhere, and apparently wanted by Real Madrid, the rumour mill has started discussing the possibility of a swap between the two managers.
I wasn’t originally going to comment on this as I personally don’t think that Wenger would leave Arsenal or that Arsenal would employ Mourinho, but I guess I have known to be wrong once or twice before!
So, who would prefer Mourinho to be in charge at Arsenal if Wenger went to Real Madrid?

its the board causing the problem so if this exchange happens then plz exchange the names also + arsene just signed a new contract.
mourinho doesnt make his team play football he teaches them how to be stonger than the great wall of china and no BRILLIANT football and i rather watch arsene make arsenal play brilliant and no trophies rather than watch arsenal win the way united and chelsea have been winning(something which i always critised ).
and 1 last question how much ever mourinho’s done has he won a premier league title INVINCIBLY!!!!!!!????

Mourinho would toughen Arsenal up defensively so I’d have him tomorrow. However he’d never come to a club that has no transfer budget at all. In fact in the last 6 years we have made an overall profit of £25 million (see yesterdays Times)- that doesn’t sound like Mourinho’s cup of tea to me.

I would love to see mourinho as our new coach cos right now arsenal our lacking in confidence n fire we need a manager who can solve our old problem….Madrid need a style of play only wenger can teach them how to play a passing game …Arsenal lacks in firing n Madrid lacks in style of play if wenger goes to madrid m sure they can give a tough fight to barca or even can beat them…All in all I think its a good swaap…But my wish. Is to see Guardiola as our new coach…Same style of play but with different tactics….

Mourinho can come to arsenal any day.. he would imporve the team considerable and our good players like RVP and Wiltshire will stay. Cause in a few years wenger will sell Wiltshire and bring in some other young player that is nowhere the same quality.

Never in my life would i swap AW (a very loyal manager who knows and does whats best for the club) with murinho wenger has been at the club for 16 years and you fans doubting him cannot call yourself fans if you would swap our very intellegent manager for some manager eho will stay at the club for 2 years then leave and anyway it is mainly the boards fault for not giving wenger enough money to spend and i think we will beat chelsea to 4th place as there is lots of games left to play so all you people doubting AW who call yourself fans better think again and yes we are not having the best of times but a new manager is not the answer

Hypothetically speaking yes I’d take Jose. Why? He’s far more tactical than Wenger. Yes I know in the past half a decade he’s spent mounds of money but at the same time he did win the CL with Porto who had no real comparable budget. So if push comes to shove Mourinho can do something with very little but he’s just had the luxury of not having to do so but that’s one of the perks of being successful.
Wenger will always have a place in Arsenal’s heart but as Matt Smith’s Doctor has said “Everything must end, otherwise nothing would ever get started”. Wenger’s time at Arsenal seems to be winding down. He might not want to go beause he’s comfortable here, but that doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do.
Jose also has something wenger doesn’t – a winner’s attitude. While Wenger has won things, it’s in my opinion of the characters on the field that won it for him. He built on the platform of Graham who had the famous back four who were winners and leaders and that transferred to the likes of The Invincibles. However, Wenger cannot make winners out people who have never won. Jose single handedly turned Chelsea into barely there top four club into a collections of players who want to win. Before him, almost no one at Chelsea won anything or very much but he has a knack of instilling this mentality that makes you want to win. Sorry to say but Wenger is more daddy than manager and his kids are spoilt.

Look it’s easy if you want attractive attacking football AW your man. if it’s silverware you want Mourinho is the man. I’m no football expert but this man puts together teams that win things. His teams have won at least 1 major competition every year since 2002. So if its silverware you want he is definately the man.
Personally I’d rather have someone like Pep from Barca or Martin O’Neil but that is as likely as AW walking away.

if wenger wanted to leave he would have done so in 2009. But he stayed loyal to us. Ppl can only second guess what would have happed if he had left. Does loyalty mean anything in modern day football. But one thing is certain, who ever comes on once wenger leaves, he wont have money to spend and senior players will probably leave

Change is needed, and would be good for everyone involved. If Wenger were to go to Madrid I think the fire will return to him and he would once again prove his brilliance. The next AFC manager would show the board that ways of doing business must be changed. I don’t think any manager would last very long at AFC after Wenger leaves but lessons will be learned by the board(HOPEFULLY). Then and only then can our great club once again be where we all want it to be. Mourinho might succed at arsenal but I wouldn’t want him. If I take my heart out of it this is how I see it: Wengers vision for this team is an incredibley brave aproach to the game in modern age sports. However every great vision must be able to bend and conform as it progresses,Or the end results will never come to fruition. That is his and the boards shared problem. But one piece of his character that I truley admired is he never has givin up AFC. He just needs a reality check and MAdrid would give him the oppertunity to realize that. Mourinho on the other hand is a great manager of a dif mould. He has never built a team from scratch and has money at his disposal. But in Madrid, Barca is the thorn in his side and if he leaves in the summer that screams out QUITER to me. I always here that he’s the “special one” and a “great tactition”. Come on.. How good of a tactition can he really be if he has arguably the 1st or 2nd best sqaud in the world and can’t come close to beating barca wiThout playing dirty?
Anyways has anyone read the articles of Kroenke bidding on the LA Dodgers. If this happens I will surely be more worried than I already am for our beloved AFC.

People are so quick to forget about all Wenger has done for us. Two doubles, an undefeated season of 49 games, and consistently managing us to the champions league. If given the light of day by the board, he would be able to restore us to our former glory. Mourinho is a great manager. Wenger is the best. You would be a fool to swap the two, because as we all know Mourinho would be out in the next 3 seasons if this happened (3 clubs in 6 years).

These two, among others, have been shouting from the rooftops that Arsene is this and that and that he should go now.
I have asked many times who would replace him but no suggestions have been forthcoming from the likes of these so called Arsenal fans.

Interms of pep gurdiola or ferguson or mourihno………wenger is a bad manager……..only b/c he does not win trophies year after year………but finacially and on the economical side of the game he is head of every one in football history………i think wenger is showing us the future managment style for the game and in 20 and 30 years time he would be called the father of suistanible club model…………and his attempt to build a team like barcelona or the old total football philosphy …….have give us arsenal fans some magical moments that will live with us forever………i know currently we are not that goood …..but wenger is way visionary than any body in football and he is the only manager who has tried to make his dream of a perfect football club to come to reality for the past 15years and arsenal are one of the richest profitable and classy teams in the world with a husge fan base around the world and a world class stadium and tranning ground…………..even if wenger goes tommorow the foundation he has build in the past 15years will give us solid base and good future……arsenal foreever!

If he brought Ronaldo, Benzema/Higuin and Ozil with him, then sure. Wenger and the board must both accept responsibility for Arsenal’s fall. Wenger’s tactics hailed success in his first ten years but they won’t now because football changes and quality managers, like SAF, change with it, if not change it themselves. Wenger does not do that. He is a stubborn man, tactically suspect. The board, well what more needs to be said about them? The faster they’re out of the club the better. If Wenger were to leave, I wouldn’t mind that poor bloke who was managing PSG at the top of the table before being sacked.

I think for those of you who are saying that people who crit AW and Arsenal are not true supporters are idiots. The fact that we can show such emotion and heartache proves how much we love the club. Those that dont complain and watch blindly as our Arsenal team is sinking is not true supporters.
If I was at the stadium and Arsenal played the way they did with me paying huge ticket prices then I would Booooo to cause it frustrating. By the way I dont think the booo’s did effect Arshiwin as his being playing crap the whole season.
The only thing that I can say is that we shouldn’t give up on the team. We should life the legacy and the team. But if you have an opinion over something that only exists because of the true fans then I say complain all you want . You deserve that at least.

What an outrageous post and set of responses by some. How is it that there can be so many arsenal supporters out there that don’t seem to respect or understand how or more importantly why the club is run the way it is. Arsene Wenger has brought success to a club that was never considered a big club in Europe and this is something all Arsenal followers should understand. If our club did not go in the direction that we have taken we could easily of Been a middle of the ladder team that had a small ground and a philosophy that did not include trying to play fluid technical football. We ow our successes to Arsene and what he has brought to our club. To replace him and return to a philosophy of winning at all costs and spending big to win will only lead us down a path of instability. What this clubs fans need is a little perspective and understanding that we lost an important player to our team and we are in a transitional period. If we get through this year in a reasonable place then I think with our youth coming through and the aging opponents coming to there ends we could have a good chance of achieving something next season. If we support our players and manager through this period I am sure we will all be the better for it. Life is bot always about glory, but sometimes about holding onto your convictions and philosophy and believing that our club structure will come out on top. Anyway the gunners will be show by next year if our philosophy of making arsenal players works. We could still be the next Barcelona if we believe enough in our football philosophy, but I can tell you it does not help if we slander and shame our players for trying to be a special club which in time could be a truely great and successful club. We just need to believe and support our manager and players through this tough year. Anyway Gunners 4 Life

I have been an arsenal fan since 2006- the year i developed interest in football. For the past six years i have seen many clubs lift big and small trophies but i never got the feeling of joy wen one gets seeing his own club lift a trophy. I respect wenger for all he has done for arsenal. Our club would have never been like this without wenger- it would have at best been a mid table side… But six years is also too much. Football has moved on, but wenger hasn’t. Even a player like demba ba who scores just a number of goals for one season is priced at more than 15m… But wenger’s most expensive signing is 15m- Arshavin. He refuses to raise that bar… That way we will soon fight for europa league places if not worse… Wenger, please stay but improve your policy or else just make way for someone else who, even if for once, will bring us a big trophy, even if it costs us the beautiful style of football that we play!

All day long, Wenger needs a new lease of life he can’t compete in English game any more along with his pathetic yes men coaching staff. Tactically Arsenal are a shambles. Jose would get the Emirates rocking, he would never put up with the likes of Arshavin Chamakh and Squillaci etc. He is a great motivator and tactically spot on. Don’t accept all this dour football crap I thought his Chelsea side played superb stuff but just when ahead shut up shop bit like George Graham. Also Real Madrid are looking the best they have looked for years and Inter have declined big time since he left. Under Jose Arsenal would be equal to both Mancs and way above Spuds and Chelsea, can you imagine the envy down at the bridge if we got Jose. So I say yes he would totally wake Arsenal up and although always respect Arsene for the past its time to go I’m old enough to remember Busby the god at Man Utd staying on to long and United ended up going down and of course Brian Clough went to far and Forest went down. Those two men way better than Wenger so dont keep on saying how great he is, he was but not anymore.

Just like every story there’s also 2 sides to this.. Arsenal haven’t won a thing in the last 7 years and with wenger at the helm of things we probz won’t for as long as he’s there due to his mentality.. In this current market u need 2 b able to spend to get great players n wenger doesn’t seem to understand that, he has also got the team in2 a none title winning side. Regardless of the amazing football we see we have nothing to prove our worth.. Top players will only be attracted to a club that they know will improve n be able to offer CL if arsenal fall out of the top 4 this season its gonna b hard work to get back into the top 4.. But he is loyol! Jose on the other hand is a born winner! Tacticaly the best! N man management that could rivel the best managers in the world! Something arsenal need right now, a strong manager who will put the defence right n bring in players who can make a differance. Ye his style of football isn’t woow, but I rrather win trophies then not win anything! N to be totaly honest with u. Our pasing has been ok (I’m being kind) this season. Ohhh and another thing.. All us arsenal fans remember the unbeaten season right? Of course we do that was the best time of our lives. We would wake up on the weekend knowning we wouldn’t lose.. Personally speaking I wake up now praying we can atleast pull a point from the game regardless who we play. I wouldn’t swap Arsene for anyone, but I would swap the board out for one that will spend money. Does anyone in their right mind think that if the board approved unlimited funds to bring in Hazard, or better that Arsene would turn them away? It is the boards refusal to spend money that is bringing our beloved club to its knees NOT AW.

Wenger wont be going, there is no question about that. He is part of the long term plan and if Arsenal finish outside the top 4 this season then it will be only the first time he has not hit his target and one failure out of 16 wouldn’t warrant him being dismissed especially if the club still turn a profit.
Wenger is part of the long term plan as he was brought on board specifically to develop the youth project as the team wouldn’t be buying star players whilst we plan for, build and pay off our new stadium.
That’s just how it is!
