Song linked to Inter – Deserved interest for a unique Arsenal talent
Italian giants Inter Milan have been linked with an Arsenal regular who has improved every season and who looks to be on the form of their life. The name Robin Van Persie certainly springs to mind, but it now seems that it’s the turn of Alex Song to be noticed for his efforts.
According to the Metro, reports from Italy suggest that Inter manager Claudio Ranieri is an admirer of the Cameroon international and wants to add his kind of power to the midfield. Such appreciation is thoroughly deserved for a player whose noticeable progression from a solely defensive unit to an all-round midfield dynamo really has been quite remarkable. He has amassed attacking principles and introduced them into his game but, while other players might simply accept a change in position, Song has merged both spectrums of styles to create a unique brand of footballer that probably can’t be compared to many others.
Song has so far avoided the whirl of the rumour mill this season, while the majority of his teammates have been linked to various clubs across Europe each week. After more than six seasons at the Emirates in which he has quietly gotten on with his development as a player without fuss, it seems desperately unjust that he still isn’t regarded by most as the potentially world class midfielder that he is.
Although Song deserves more credit for his fundamental role in Arsenal’s midfield, Arsène Wenger will be content – and surely stunned – at the lack of offers from Europe’s big clubs for the midfielder. If such rumours of interest from the likes of Inter Milan did materialise, Wenger would have to categorically refuse such a move to avoid having to deal with the irreplaceable void that would be left.
Arsenal have also been linked with Lyon defensive midfielder Maxime Gonalons but would he – or any other player – be able to offer precisely what Song gives the Gunners at the moment?

For years now I’ve thought Song has been massively underrated, and I’m so pleased he’s finally performing consistently and getting the accreditation he deserves.
I hope he has years to go on his contract because I for one would be very sad to see him go.

why cant people just leave our players alone and produce their own… i will swap song for no one, whos to say sneider or m’villa will fit in? maybe they will but if we know song already does and is brilliant at what he does, why experiment?

Song is THE MOST UNDERRATED player in the Arsenal squad. I personally always feel comfortable and safe when Song has the ball, relying on him to make a great tackle, stop a run or deliver an incisive pass. He’s really a box to box midfielder and his work rate in every game is arguably unmatched, albeit Wilshere is also respected. Without Song for a few late games last season, defensively, Arsenal looked extremely vulnerable.
Alex Song is a vital cog in Arsenal’s engine. I really enjoy how he uses his body to shield and hold the ball in midfield, nonchalantly and cleverly making the right decisions even under pressure. If anyone has noticed, Song uses the power in his quadriceps and upper body strength when he lowers his centre of gravity against an opponent, always maintaining his balance and protection of the ball. It’s a skill that can be used in many sports but not too many people respect this ability as it’s something you don’t appreciate unless you’ve actually experienced playing competitive levels in any game.
M’vila would be a terrific signing for Arsenal, but I’d prefer Song as our DM even if we signed M’vila. We forget that M’vila can also play in various backline positions as well so why not use his versatility to further solidify our back four? Bring back the days of 1-0 to THE ARSENAL!
There’s ONLY ONE SONG that matters!

song still has a long way to go to be considered a top midfielder in europe. he lacks the pace closing people down esp during counter attacks and fouls too many times at crucial times/locations on the pitch. yes, he’s contributed offensively, but i’d just like to see him doing his primary role better, i.e. helping out the back four when we are stretched, like what Parker does for England and spurs.
Opinions divided. What do you think?

I wouldn’t let him go, he has what sneider and mvila don’t, love for the arsenal. And he’s a cracking good player

arsene won’t buy m’vila
we have players in the reserves waiting for their chance and you really think arsene will spend big money for another DM? stop dreaming!
yes if he was on his last year of his contract and coming for free, not for 25 millions. well maybe rennes are using our name to lure man city. arsene wenger wouldn’t pay that kind of money anyway.

Anyhow arsenal are looking a better team than Inter at the moment. Can’t see Song moving.

It will depend on the money Inter offers, we know what financial model gunners are running. It would not be dramatic if he goes. He’s a good player but 20 million as some claim will get it done with the present board. Now that Arteta and Ransey are growing, Jack on his way back and Coq and Frimpong waiting on the sideline, it is a feasible move when the money is right. That money could be invested in a first class creative attacking midfielder in the mould of Gotze, Hazard, Reuss etc.
Team would be improved and more fun to watch if we do it that way. Danger is always that he’ll go and not be replaced and the board hails the sustainability of their model. As a football supporter thatw ould be frustrating.

@undisclosed – ur suggestions are good but not realistic, but yet again, we would never be able to replace song, perhaps yea, except for mvila , if we cannot replace him, the board better keep their mind focused and keep this guy at emirates, he’s the spine of the midfield right now…

So Arsenal being a feeder club with owners that just want as much money as possible is now international news.
I want Inter in the knockout stages so that we can give them another lesson.

@Song is a a much, much better player than M´vila. in fact he is from last season, the best African player, and one of the most complete midfielders around. according to many football analyst.
Thankfully he has been unnoticed by many because in his position he doesn’t get to score goals that much.
whoever thinks of selling or swapping Song either is not a gunner supporter, or knows nothing about football.
LEAVE THE BOY ALONE.
PS
I still remember the plastic gunners urging Wenger to sell him (2 seasons ago), same to Kosielny (last season), same to Diaby (as long as I can remember).
Of note, that Diaby is ahead of Mvila in the French national team pecking order; does it mean anything to you?
Please think before righting instead of being forced to always eat your own words.

Song is 1 of the old boys now for us, he has been with us for a long time like V-P. His style of play with his hairstyle is second to none- meaning he is exellent, he will be dearly missed when the nations cup arrives, if anything he his without a doubt 1 of our most hard working quite players, and a player like him is always welcome to Arsenal, but a player to replace him should not be allowed, at least untill he is at his last stages of play. Song my boy you are truely a great player for us
God bless Arsenal

Paddy I don’t think he is going to ANC as Camaroon did not qualify could be wrong but thought he read it during the week. Song as be a great performer for the club and I won’t be sold. He has come a long way since when he started and people were saying he was wenger worse buy….. At 250K what a bargain and he has years ahead of him.

@John – You’re right that Cameroon didn’t qualify for the African Cup of Nations but you’re wrong about the £250,000 price tag. We actually brought him in on loan and then bought him from Bastia for £1 million. Either way, it was one hell of a deal.

Song is an integral part of our push forward. He’s been a silent operator for years now and delivering the goods again and again. Its a shame he’s not been getting the deserved credit but only few players can understand the squad and play as he does. We need him going forward and he is getting better n better. Top man

Song is class. In my opinion the best DM in the PL. His consistency is most noticeable, something most players lack these days. I would really be sad to see him go, if any players salary needed to be raised it would be Song’s. What an asset he is to the Arsenal.

song is a gr8 player dont get me wrong, but his willingness 2 bomb forward n attack leaves the defence exposed on the counter. id love 2 partner song wiv a proper holding mid in the makelele mould 2 enable song S play the freedom ov the box to box role. push wilshire further advanced 2 supply the balls 4 the front 3.

Two payers stand-out in a “very quiet way” in Arsenal: Song and Sagna
Both are World class players and a delight to watch. Any Manager worth his salt will fight tooth and nail to keep such players in his squad.
Song in particular, has a success rate of around 90%-95% of winning the ball, in any tackle he makes! That is a mid-fielder for you! His passes, ball sense and awareness have so vastly improved that you would easily notice his absence in an Arsenal game – and ofcourse, we are likely to loose that game by a margin of around 3-4 (yes, we will ship-in 4goals and score 3 in return!)
I just Hope Wenger will not be tempted as usual, to cash-in early on this maverick of a player called Alex Song, for Wenger, its all about making money off the player at his prime, not about service to the club or making him happy at all cost!

Song isn’t a world-class midfielder, he is sloppy in possession, he gets the job done defending-wise, but Coquelin and Frimpong offer much more potential than Song ever has. If we were to sign M’Vila the obvious way to bank role the transfer would be to allow song to leave, we only paid 1M for him in the first place so any transfer fee would see a significant profit being made… Which is a fact that I am sure has not been lost on the Arsenal Board members.
