Sorensen – Bendtner used to be MORE big-headed!
The Arsenal and Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner is often castigated for his over-confidence and big-headedness, but his Danish team-mate Thomas Sorensen reckons that the Gunners’ striker used to be even MORE big-headed when he was younger!
The Arsenal sports psychologist Jacques Crevoisier recently said that in tests for ‘self perceived competence,’ (i.e. how good the player himself thinks he is). On a scale up to 9, Bendtner got 10!
So could he have been even worse as a youngster in Denmark? Sorensen seems to think so, and he believes that Bendtner has become much more mature and modest nowadays (lol!). He said: “I think you need to be confident as a striker, but with modesty as well. I think he’s learnt that in the national team.
“It was a hard job for us older guys to get him into things because he would like to do his own thing.
“But he needs to know, and he does see that now, that it is a team game and he needs to work as part of a group.
He can’t just go round and do things his own way.
“He’s made mistakes in the team, in training and he’s had a fair amount of boll***ings from the manager.
“But he seems to pick it up, and that’s what you want to see. He’s improved a lot, but he needs to work hard on his talent because that talent is definitely there.
“He’s grown up and is a lot more mature than when he first came in, so it makes it a lot easier for us.
“He seems to be a lot more like the finished article and now he needs to play a lot more than he has been doing at Arsenal.”
If this is a new modest Bendtner that tells Wenger he should be the first name on the team-sheet, then I dread to think what he was like back in those days…….

This guy might end up being very good, yes hes an airhead but I feel the class and quality will come with playing time. I wouldnt mind loaning him out to another club to see how he does.

Nicklas needs to be more consistent with his performances and his finishing in front of goal. That’s all. The quality is def there.
Problem is, he’s only going to develop consistency if he plays consistently. I don’t feel that is going to happen at Arsenal (at least not currently). I second another’s opinion above that he should go out on loan (preferably to another Prem team (Bolton?) or the Bundesliga or Eredivisie) for a season.
He’s only 22 or 23 and this team has plenty of attacking options currently (plus they’ll get Vela back from WBA).
Bendtner will be great, he just needs to play.

@Homer- Hery was pretty damn slick at 22, let’s not forget that 20 yard banger from nothing against Man Utd. Chip up and volleyed over Bartez!! 2000/2001 season. He didn’t have that air of unreliability that Bendtner is trying desperately to shake off.
Adebayore on the other hand was soO useless and irritatingly crap! Then Henry left & he got the game time & confidence. So I second Nate’s point above, Bendtner just needs more game time.
