Squillaci, Yennaris and Miquel to be in Arsenal’s back four against Swansea
We all knew that things were bad regarding the injuries to the Arsenal defence, but I’m not sure that everybody knows exactly how bad it is right now.
We all knew that Thomas Vermaelen, Bacary Sagna, Kieran Gibbs, Andre Santos and Carl Jenkinson were definitely not going to be in the team, but now it’s been revealed that Per Mertesacker has been laid low with an illness, while although Johann Djourou missed last weeks game through suspension, he is also injured and is unlikely to be ready for Swansea either.
Wenger was hopeful that he could be okay by this weekend and is trying hard to get in a loan defender as extra cover, but without any luck so far. The French manager said: “I hope I can get Djourou back for Sunday and if we find a solution we will take it. At the moment we are not close to a deal.”
So if Djourou doesn’t make it, then what are the options left to Wenger for the back four? The ONLY good news is that Laurent Koscielny is fit, and he had Squillaci, Coquelin and Miquel alongside him in the Leeds game, with Yennaris coming on after Coquelin succumbed to a hamstring injury.
With no other options available, it looks like these four will have to face Swansea’s adventurous attack force, who have only lost once at the Liberty Stadium this season. Can anyone suggest another solution to fill the gaps?
I think I would move Rosicky and Benayoun back into the defence rather than play Squillaci and Yennaris!

I’m sure the young lads will do everything possible to show that the are worthy gunners and first team contenders (hopefully). However, we just have to stay optimistic.

I think Yennaris did a good job against Leeds so I don´t have a problem with him playing. Squillaci didn´t really f**k up against Leeds, so I expect at least one blooper from him this weekend.

There’s another solution !
We can put Yennaris as RB and he’s confirmed in this position in the reserves, so don’t worry about him.
Miquel is a good CB and he’s been doing well in the last games, the only issue is the pacen he’s a little bit slow, so he shouldn’t go forward often but he will be OK.
Kos, well we won’t talk too much about him….
Instead of puting Squillaci as CB we can put Song !! He’s very decent there and he showed that many times.
You’ll ask me what about the middle knowing that we don’t have Frimpong anymore and also Coquelin injured. Well, Arteta can do the job there in partnership with Ramsey and Rosiscky. The attack would be Walcott + RVP + Arshavin

Deduke I am entitled to an opinion after being one of the few on here who up until the start of this season when I was finally priced put of my season ticket who hasn’t missed a home game and very few away games in 20 years. Are you telling me that we should be losing against blackburn and fulham and drawing with wolves with the wages these players are collecting and more importantly when we are told by our club that we are challenging for a championship? Firstly, @Jago, you are the worst type of Arsenal fan. Please support someone else if we’re “so shit”, or don’t support anyone, because you have no right to support Arsenal.
Secondly, cancel Frimpong’s loan, we need him now more than ever.
Seeing as that’s not going to happen, the team should look like this:

Henry should come on around 60 minute mark no matter what for anyone. Rosicky could always move into CDM, Walcott could aways move into CAM.

How can we not be close to signing anyone! It is so frustrating when there are players clearly available for decent prices that are better than what we have! Cahill, squid, johan, which of those three would you want, or samba in place of cahill. Any decent leftback in place of the forever injured gibbs anyone? Players ARE available, we had months to prepare for the transfer window, so what the hell is going on?

Koscielny, Vermaelen and Mertesacker have been excellent this season. Djourou has been ok and Miquel will be excellent. That statement is simply false. Face reality and understand that having 7 defenders out simultaneously is not something that any manager plans for. A similar thing happenned to United last season or season before and they got thrashed with their makeshift back line which included Carrick. It’s simply very bad luck and anyone who thinks otherwise is talking c**p. Song instead of Squillaci, Arteta as defensive mid and Rosicky or Benayoun alongside Ramsey. I think Arsene will use Squillaci though. His defensive header against Fulham which assisted their goal will go down as yet another dreadful error. Can we pray for just one game where he plays and doesn’t cost us a goal, apart from the Leeds game where they came close ?

Kyle as I have said I am entitled to an opinion to tell some to support another club is pointless as it isn’t going to happen. With the exception of van Persie and possibly the keeper who out of our present fit 11 players would get in city’s uniteds chelsea’s or spuds team? We could very well be twelve to fifteen points behind spurs by the end of January and I am hurting badly about this more than anything else. The manager got last summer so very wrong and why have we brought Park, squllaci chamach when with some investment we could of got Cahill podolski and mata! Song should play in defence alongside Koscielny and I would still back Miguel and Yennaris to do a far better job than Squillaci in the full back positions. Arteta alongside Ramsey and Rosicky would have to do the defensive duties in midfield amongst themselves in Songs absence. And upfront I believe AOC and TW14 should be given a run out on the wings in order to give Swansea something to sweat over. If we can keep Swanseas full backs occupied tgen that would inadvertedly put less pressure on our inexperienced back four. I believe if we can keep it nil nil with 10 mins to go then King Henry will come on and once again score a wonder goal. This is because he has that permanent class to continue performing at the highest level. Up the Gooners.

Sczesny would get into the United team. Kos would possibly get into any of them as would Vermaelen. Sagna would have a good chance of getting a first team spot at any of them. Arteta, Ramsey and Song would all have a good chance and so would RvP. The only players who wouldn’t get a game are Walcott and Gervinho. Do you seriously think that Anderson, Carrick, Milner or Barry are better than Wilshere, Ramsey, Song or Arteta ? You really are the most negative Arsenal fan that i’ve encountered. As for those who want Cahill even Chelsea won’t pay 80k for a player who’s had a poor season playing in a team that will get relegated. Neither him or Samba would be better than 4th choice at Arsenal.

The only problem with Song is he can be a bit rash. I don’t fancy conceding a stupid penalty or go a man down early on. But it’s probably the only option. All those clowns not wanting to sign defenders a couple of months back must be retarded. Arsenal always cop defensive injuries and a top club cannot be caught playing make shift defences like we are for so long. It’s not conducive to finishing top four or better. Left back is the biggest problem as Gibbs is always injured and just not that good anyway and I’m still yet to be convinced by Santos defensively. He sill makes me feel uneasy.

I think we need to stop calling for all these foreign players to be brought in because as I understand it there is no more room in our squad for anyone other than home grown players. I would love to see them come but if there is no room we need to ship some others out first. Perhaps someone can please clarify this?

Seems like we could have done with Frimpong at the moment, so we could put Song in at CB.. Always the way, no game time for him, then as soon as he goes out on loan we end up with 8 defenders injured or unavaliable!
I would still Put Song on at CB and play without a holding midfielder against Swansea.. With the pace of their offensive players, Squillaci will not stand a chance

Yes we do need to clear players out in order to bring players in, Squillaci, Almunia & Arshavin all seem like they might be leaving, but if we cannot sell any of them, we could just take them out of the squad altogethor to make room for new players. (If we found a CB we would just un-register Squillaci untill we find someone crazy enough to buy him)

Fair point about our current fit players although I rate the midfielders higher than you do and also Koscielny. You can say that about most teams when they go through an injury crisis. Having said that the squad definitely lacks depth. Most obviously in attack where, exclduing Henry, we have one good player for 3 positions in the entire squad. The defense is not a major weakness when there’s not an injury crisis but obviously it’s the focus of attention now.

miquel is actually a central defender so i think wenger should definately play: Song, Koschielny, Miquel, Yennaris? However i expect wenger to play squilacci, he seems to show faith in him? I dont know hy because he is over 30 i beleive so what is the point when miquel and yennaris are probably better. We should definately sign Abidal or Cisokkho (one of the 2).

wenger knew the limitations in defnce,. he should of realised with the luck he is having with injuries in defence, that this would happen, , hangelaand and jagielka.would solve the problem, start spending money instead , of being a tight arse. if he spent more, we would be challenging for , premier league title, not hopefully settling on trying for 4th place, which we will miss out on any way sell dead wood chamahk, arshavin. squillachi. bring back vela, and but 3 players who will actually improve the team and make us stronger

Charlie I think Kos will be exceptional but is still prone to mistakes and he broke my heart at wembeley last season! Ramsey needs a rest however arteta and song are de my but not as good as say yaya or Parker and nowhere near modric and van de fart.

its tough at the momment i agree but these inuries are outa wengers control. apart from santos though all are injured players including jack will be back in only a few weeks.
we have only got to get through the next few games then we will be back to full strength so no sense in buying players realy, plus miquel and yennaris could be good enough but without gametime how will we know?
song for the squid all day long and a versatile defender like abidal by all means, but other than that stop moaning and support the bloody team, they have just got to get on with it and so have we. in these tough times everybody wants to be a critic when we shoud be pulling together and just be fans, and the main job of a fan is to support!

Cahill might be a good buy for 10 mill but with the salary he is asking for I will agree that we should forget it because if Chelsea won’t agree with what he wants there is no way in hell we will.
I find it a bit strange that some fans do not agree that Squilacci is a liability and should not even be on the bench let alone in the starting line up but I suppose we are all entitled to our opinion however weird it might be.
Baines or Cicsokho should have been bought in the summer because no offense to Santos but no matter how good he is going forward, defensively he always looks lost.
Miguel and Yennaris looked very good in the mid week match so I say give them a chance even though the EPL is a totally different ball game.
Now the fact that Mancini is looking to buy more players is just a statement of how inept he is as a manager.
He has almost two dozen full internationals in his squad and yet he is still asking sugar daddy for more money. Please don’t compare our great club to man shitty who will end up in the 3rd division once the UAE lot get bored with their toy of a football club.
AW does not earn 6 mill a year, it is more than double that, but I would still rather throw all that money on AW if our other option is Mark Hughes. I mean come on guys he has been sacked three times and he was at Man shitty when they were spending even more crazy than now.

TRUE: Arsene Wenger sucks at buying good players and is always too slow in doing so. However for the talent we have got we are doing pretty well which means wenger is making the most of this squad.
Wenger only needs to buy one good striker and loan/buy a good full back and we will be great as long as we dont get too many injuries. I think we should change the formation to suit two strikers maybe 4-3-1-2 and buy Pato from Milan. Sell Almunia, Squillaci, Chamakh, maybe Arshavin, Rosicky, probably missed someone. it would be awesome if we bought Abidal for 4m.

Arsene was quoted as saying if he had the money he’d buy Neymar. That kid is a special talent but he’ll almost certainly go to Barca in the summer making them even better. It’s a hint at what the problem is that he said “if I had the money to spend”. I honestly think he’d love to be able to spend the money required to buy that level of quality and that’s what Arsenal are lacking. I think he knows exactly what he needs but isn’t allowed to buy the players. Spurs didn’t spend much more than Arsenal on their first team but look at the flops Crouch 9m, Gomes 10m, Keane 12m, Pavlyuchenko 14m, Bentley 15m, Woodgate 8m, Bent 16.5m. The only difference is that when a Spurs player flops they have the money available to replace them quickly. Arsenal receive more money by selling but never put that money back into replacing the flops so they hang around. No manager gets it right in the transfer market every time but if the board trust the manager they need to keep giving him money to get it right.

Wenger needs to leave ASAP. We should not allow him to buy any big players. We need new management and we should provide funds to him to do what needs to be done. No more experimenting. The thing is that it is too late to make any decent signings. These should have been done last summer. We now need to consider damage limitation and not make drastic signings. With the top 6 teams being very close we need to ensure we make the fourth spot without spending too much. If we dont we will have a new manager in summer and he will have to work with dead wood otherwise. I serioulsy think wenger has lost the ability to attract young quality signings. B 4 they would jump at the chance of playing with AFC but now a days they have many better options. This is the reason why wenger cant sign anyone good. for example if we put a bid in for Hazard City unt and Chelsea would react and make counter offers. Hazard wouldnt consider us over the other clubs due to the shit storm casted over us BY WENGER.

Wenger has been with us for so long not spending when everyone else would, he wont change now… he will bring in someone he says has talent who knowone has ever heard of. he will play szczesny,yennaris, squillaci, koscielny, miquel, song, ramsey, arteta, gervinho, van persie, walcott. henry on the bench. Also people should’nt be worried about the swansea game but hoping we’ve got players back for the manchester united game.. wenger needs to do more by brining in well established players otherwise top 4 will be unlikely. arsenal,3-swansea,1. Can see them scoring but we dominate everwere else on the pitch van persie with 2 henry with 1, COYG!!

The team needs our support during this tough period and some off us think it is a good time to start slagging of the manager and the Young Guns who are being asked to debutise in difficult games. Great fans we are!!! Thank god we have a Thierry Henry who showed us and the club his loyalty and support by coming in and helping out when the team needed it most. The man is a legend and unlike other former players didnt criticise Wenger but instead felt a sense of desire to give something back to the club who he loves unconditionally!!! Wenger sold 2 LB’s (Clichy and Traore) and bought 1 to replace them (Santos) knowing full well that Gibbs has never played more than 6 matches at a time without getting injured, and now we are 12 days into the transfer window and we are still not close to signing anyone. I bet you Wenger is waiting until Gibbs returns so that he doesn’t have to sign anyone, never mind the fact that we have three fixtures before his expected return date, and the very high possibility of him having ‘a little setback’ and being out for another month.
Gibbs should be loaned out to a less physical league where he can gain some experience, confidence and toughen up a bit. We need more defensive cover: Cissokho, Vertonghen, Baines; as well as midfielders / wingers / strikers: Gotze, Eriksen, Hazard, Higuain, Suarez etc.
But none of this will ever happen under Wenger because we have ‘a very good squad who have enormous mental strength and character’ *rolls eyes* which is why I think it is time for Arsene Wenger to leave.
Jurgen Klopp would be an excellent replacement. Similar playing style to Wenger, believes in youth, and is not afraid to spend money (signed Marco Reus for £15m within a week of the transfer window opening). With Bergkamp or Adams as his assistant.

wenger should please and buy more players espcialy in our defence line that is the major problem arsenal have been lacking for the past 4years including the absence of fabregas we’ve not seen any replacement for him a player like , schwasinger, wisely sneijer, luca modric, strong midfilder and ful center back infact i realy suprise when wenger sign santos i could’t know is a good and experence player kudos to that and wenger should make sure he sign henry fully for replacement of rvp so go to the market and buy a better player or go for loan. @Charlie I agree putting Arteta in DM as he doesn’t really initiate anything create compared to Ramsey, Rosicky, Benayoun. He is also a tough cookie to get past. So seeing I’d rather have Song in defense over Squid, Arteta would be the best replacement temporarily for DM.
I would also like to see AOC on the LW, and Walcott RW. RvP of course up front, maybe a bit of va va voom Thierry during the second half.
