Strange developments in the Fabregas to Barcelona saga
After Arsene Wenger said that Barcelona had given up on signing Cesc Fabregas this summer, we all thought that there was a quiet transfer window ahead regarding the tapping-up series that we seem to see every year, but now things seem to have taken a strange turn.
Yesterday Andrei Arshavin revealed that Fabregas had given each Arsenal player a small parting gift before he flew out to the Spanish Grand Prix, and this morning David Villa announced that he would love to have Cesc still to come to Barcelona.
Now El Mundo Deportivo is reporting that Fabregas has agreed personal terms with Barca, and it just remains for the two clubs to agree a fee, and they say that the Catalans are ready to increase their offer to £40m to force Wenger to bite the bullet.
Wenger recently said: “I expect him to be here next season, and I will fight very hard to keep him here.
“You have always to fight when you have a player of that quality. You must always fight to keep your players.”
But Wenger also said that he would be unusually active in the transfer market, so perhaps he also knew that he would have to let his captain go this year?
One thing about Arshavin, he always tells you like it is! Could he be the only honest one around…….

Why forcing to keep him against his wish? let him go for 40 or 45mil to barca and buy worldclass replacent like pastore or sanchez..It would good both for the club and cesc

I agree @arsenalmaniac7. I was watching videos of him and Pique on Youtube and whenever pique brought up the subject of him going back to Barca, Cesc blushed. Just put yourself in his shoes. He wants to leave but at the same time does not wish to leave arsenal in a dire state or upset the fans because of all we’ve done for him. I respect Cesc but I do not believe that a player will perform at his best at a club he does not want to be at. I’m disappointed though. Only reason Pique is at Barca is because he underperformed at Man u.

there is nobody bigger than the club if the guy wish to go then let him go.Even if wenger said he is going. The club still remains, its just a shame for professor that his army no longer believe in him so why is wenger still waiting. We need a total change not just captain change.

I think is good and best 4 Arsenal and Arsene to cash in from cesc,
a) we have nasri and ramsey who both of them they are more then ready to replace him.
b) to gate 40m from him we can buy stronge DM 4 20m and 2 defenders. 10m to 15m each.
c) the money we have atmoment we shall get Bemzima.

we should have left him last season man , i mean u can see it in everything his play his behaviour , every cell in him wants to run to barcelona and scream visca el barca, and i can understand that all his friends are there and its a long time 8 years , so leave him for 30 mil get pastore or gourcuff and just build new team i mean there was no succes period!

Fabregas has been amazing for Arsenal, but he wants to go back to his routes, his home; I can understand that and I think its acceptable. He means no disrespect to Arsenal by leaving, if I was a proffesional footballer playing in the spanish league, I would want to come back and live in England to be honest. Cesc’s heart isnt in the game anymore, not the way it used to be, he doesnt play with the passion he used to. Though I am very dissapointed to see this happen, But I do believe it would be sensible and morally right to let cesc go now back to barca for 40/45 mil, and look to buy some world class replacements that are as good as cesc.

Let him go for 35 and be done with it. Sure it would be nice to hold out for 40 or 45, but the sooner the deal is done, the sooner Wenger will know what his transfer budget is – allowing him to move quickly to sign a replacement and new defenders. But who am I kidding… even if Wenger had a billion in the budget he would still move slowly and still try to buy on the cheap.

40 mio?! come on, torres was 52 mio, carrol was 36mio and look what pool and chelski got for their money.
cesc is world class and easily worth 50 mio.
let him go? yes! on the cheap? no!

If you think Wenger will spend all the money he gets for Cesc then your seriously deluded!
More profits for the members of the board is all, haven’t you all learnt anything about Wenger!
He’s as tight as a frogs asshole pure and simple. We will NOT be getting ANY big signing as long as he is in charge, and by big signings I’m talking about world class planets for 20mil pluss. Just not going to happen, wait and see!

arshavin said cesc gave some of the players gifts, and arshavin joked with him saying “is this a parting gift”. no proof suggesting its actually a parting gift, just arshavin joking around, could be true though. ironic how arsha was giving an interview on how his words are twisted

@Arsenalmaniac7, U’re on point! Like I’ve said before in this forum, Cesc has given his best to Arsenal while his heart was still with US! He’s a great professional no doubt, he loves Arsenal, but Barca is home! The arsenal fan in me want Cesc to stay, but realistically I’ve never been an advocate of keeping a player in a club against his wish! To perform @ an optimal level, talent is not enough, passion, desire, unwavering love for the institution you represent! Cesc doesn’t want to lose his “Hero status” with Arsenal fans! But He’s a catalonian! & like the Barca “rats” Puyol & Pique rightly said, He has Barca DNA! It will be a great business @ the end for Arsenal only if Arsene & Ivan get there act together (which I’m optimistic about). The entrant of Madrid, Milan can only work for good for Arsenal. We should think of getting good value for him without making him feel unwanted! I think £35M+Keita/Afellay will be a good deal for US! We’ll surely miss Cesc, cuz we love him but no doubt it’s not easy to say “good bye”. It’s time for Arsenal to say it!! Bye Cesc, we’ll always welcome U anytime!!!

I reckon its true, but something sketchy is going on to keep it under raps, it was probably on terms of last years arsene – cesc chat.
I was just starting to think it was a little too quiet. ahh well, pastore, hazard, ganso will do.

I wonder how that guy knew a frog’s ass is tight. Maybe he has some skills that way? Anyway I think it is time to let Fabregas go. This has dragged on for too long. I would take 40 mill plus a player if I was Wenger.

Personally I have tried to avoid this whole story this summer, if you remember last summer the Spanish papers told us Cesc had agreed a 5 year deal and personal terms yet he was still an Arsenal player for the next season. Nobody really knows what way this will pan out not even Cesc himself hence why he has been so quiet lately.

The problem is Barcelona don’t want to consider a price of more than £40m on him, so how can Wenger let him go cheaper? He is the best passer in the Premiership. Barcelona simply don’t interest to make a serious bid for him, but keep playing drama like they intend to get him so much. Sucks.

Well he has been great to have him. Let him go happy. We should get a player and some money so the total worth is close to 50 mil. rather than just 40 mil.

@arsenalmaniac7, well do any of us know for sure why he gave the gifts, or to who he gave the gifts. my point is don’t assume you know whats going on when in reality you don’t. people could say anything and it doesnt help when you have the british media and even gooners twisting words to make a good article. take my advice, believe nothing, believe no one, trust only what you know. remember, this all started because arshavin JOKINGLY said “whats this a parting gift?”. next thing you know someone will see cesc at a bank and say oh hes pulling cash to fund his own transfer

Fabregas is a class but if he desires to leave the club, let him go. The only problem is that wenger is such a joke who trusts more on kids which has costed arsenal six seasons trophless. I pray he thinks positively next season.

For the first time, I sense a growing tide among Arsenal fans to let Fabregas return to his native city.
IMO they are right, provided Barcelona meet the Arsenal valuation. They want him, he wants to go and Arsenal may reluctantly agree to sell him. The atmosphere for a deal seems to be there, but the continual tapping up of the player by Spain in general should mean that they have to pay a price. And that price should be that of our asking, nothing less.

this is such a hard one, inlight of recent transfer dealings cesc is worth 50 to 60 mill, hes our best player and still under a long contract so why on earth should we sell him cheap.
Then theres the fact that he wants, and is only willing to go to barca and because of this barca think they dont have to pay what hes worth coz no other club would tempt him.
Ontop of that the guy clearly no longer wants to play for us or certainly not put his heart into it and we are gona need every penny of the sale to find replacements of the same quality.
This whole situation is a mess and if cesc ever has to put on a arsenal shirt again it wont be with commitment or a smile on his face, so i guess we are snookered. Are only real option is to let him go to barca for a hell of allot less than hes worth and what we could get from city or real, but that really sucks and could be the difference between wenger having the funds to buy a player like falco or one like chamakh again.

Basically, if a player wants to leave, then the club cannot hold out for a exceptionally high fee. They are forced to accept the best fee they can negotiate and that will increase if there are several clubs bidding. You only need players that have their heart in the club and that’s been the problem up till now. I would be very surprised if AW splashed major cash. It;s not his style. He only wants to buy cheap, or preferably free transfers. Next season will be a defining season for our club. Why has it taken him 5 years to realise that his policy of playing kids has not worked, or maybe he thinks it has???

Cesc is no doubt our best player and if barca needs him they should pay. I think he may decide to stay if he observe addition of ambitious players and not the likes Denilson.

if we lose fabregas we are doomed, if andy carroll is worth 35 million and kaka is worth 62 million cesc is way better than them two. he is worht 75 million and i think he is better than xavi and iniesta everyone will not agree that he is better than them but they havent played in the prem, he has and they get lots of time on the ball because everyone plays proper football out there and they dont come up against teams like stoke, he is way better than them. what the hell are you guys on you want to replace fabregas with either young inexperienced players that are nothing like him, mediocre players that wont fit the bill like charlie adam or players with no premier league experience, so if wenger did this you lot would be the first ones to cry saying you should of baught someone with premier league experince or paid more money.
IDIOTS!!!!

U GUYS ARE VERY FUNNY, WELL I KNOW U WON’T AGREE BUT I DON’T CARE, JUST GIVING MY OPINION. WHY CAN’T WE B THE FIRST CLUB TO BENCH OUR PLAYERS WHO ARE BEEN SPOILT BRATS.
IF WE AR NOT GETTING FROM 50 MIL GOING N HE DOESN’T WANT TO PERFORM AT HIS BEST, BENCH HIM TILL HIS CONTRACT EXPIRES OR HE COMES BACK TO HIS SENSES.
WHY DO WE ALWAYS HAVE TO ABIDE BY THEIR DEMANDS? IT S ARSENAL WE AR TALKING ABOUT HERE THEN PEOPLE WILL START TAKING NOTES.

Has anyone else noticed that as soon as were mentioned liking a player, that player has come out and said ” I like Arsenal but don’t want to join them.” I am getting the feeling players don’t want to join a team they think t won’t win trophies at. this stretch of years without trophies is really taking its toal. Benzema is a perfect example. We could be in real trouble if wenger has changed his transfer policy that now he can’t sign anyone who is a worldclass player.

This is pure hypothesis and nothing more but I just wonder what would happen at Arsenal if Wenger did resign. Would the French influence decline, would world class players be more attracted to Emirates, would the Board approve large transfer fees, who would choose and approve of the new manager and how much freedom would he have? There are many questions but maybe the two most important would be (1) would the fans be happy? and (2) would Arsenal be able to retain it`s position in the EPL during the transition?
It sure would shake the tree.
