Swansea vs Arsenal (FA cup) preview, predicted line up and score line. by KJ
The magic of the FA cup has started this weekend already with an upset at Brighton. This cup means a lot to Arsenal fans. We are the second most successful club in this competition (10) only behind Manchester United in the trophy tallies (11).
We go to Wales to face the very formidable Swansea City at the Liberty stadium. It’s quite hilarious that a team only promoted last season is already a thorn in Arsenal’s side.
They know how to play the “right” way and seem to play it better than us most of the time. They are brilliant on possession most of the time and have been a lot more purposeful than Arsenal have this season. It’s a testament to their philosophy and ethos (not taking anything away from Laudrup).
They are going to have the lion’s share of possession for most of the game. This could work to our advantage as this current Arsenal squad looks more built to be a counter attacking side rather than a possession side. Podolski’s power and Theo’s pace can be devastating on the counter which Wenger has to look at and use effectively.
Jenkinson/Sagna – Mertesacker – Koscielny – Gibbs
Arteta – Coquelin
Walcott – Rosicky – Podolski
This may be quite an unconventional line up but hear me out.
Sagna was absolutely awful in the last two games and I feel Jenkinson has to start. However, he has been ill/injured for the last couple of games and may not feature at all against Swansea.
Vermaelan could also do with a rest and Koscielny needs as much game time as possible as he’s a severely underrated centre back.
Wilshere is also another player who needs to be rested otherwise we may risk burning him out. Coquelin is a very good player and adds balance to Arteta as Coquelin is a lot more defensive than Wilshere giving Arteta the licence to roam and pick his passes.
Finally, Rosicky should start instead of Cazorla as the Spaniard has once again found himself lost in the last couple of games and needs to be rested. Rosicky is a brilliant player and can be really effective on the counter.
My prediction is that we’ll draw 2-2 with Swansea taking it to a replay at the Emirates.
