Arsenal have always maintained a long term interest in Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay and manager Arsene Wenger could be set to rekindle his interest this summer by making first contact with the Dutch International, after hearing that the midfielder is looking at the English Premier League, after a season on loan with Schalke.
With rumours picking up that he could be set for a move away, Afellay’s agent has stated;
“The Premier League is very tempting for Ibrahim.
Wenger brought Francis Coquelin in to the Arsenal midfield and moved Ramsey to the right. Gervinho got the chance to reprise his central striker role while Giroud was on the bench. Gervinho tended to drift out wide at the start which was fairly tentative.
In the 10th minute, Cazorla and Podolski combined well on the left and the German put in the sort of cross that Giroud would love but Gervinho could not get it on target. Arsenal were dominating possession but were lucky not to give away a penalty with a mistake by Mannone. The ref booked Afellay for diving but we have all seen them given. .......Read the full article here
Arsenal face Schalke tomorrow in the champions league, needing a good performance to bounce straight back from the worst performance of the season so far. Our German striker Lukas Podolski will not let his Arsenal team mates be complacent as he knows that Schalke will provide a stern test for the Gunners.
Podolski has declared that Schalke will be an extremely tough team to play on their home ground and so it is absolutely vital that Arsenal get all three points at the Emirates tomorrow.
Barcelona’s Dutch midfielder Ibrahim Afellay will be playing at the Emirates this season, but only when the Gunners host the German club Schalke 04 in the champion’s league. Reports claimed earlier this week that the Dutch international was going to leave Barcelona on a year long loan deal, with Arsenal and Tottenham two of the favourites to land him.
Barcelona had told the player that they would not stand in the way of a permanent deal, and were only looking for around £5 million. Afellay, however, wanted to go on loan to get match fit and try to break into the Barcelona squad, but he seems to have changed his mind. .......Read the full article here
There are loads of Arsenal transfer rumours popping up as we enter the last few days of the transfer window, and today is no different. Come on Arsene, we’re all waiting for that “special player” you’ve promised us last week!
Well first of all let’s get one outgoing player out of the way, as the Mail reports that Nicklas Bendtner is now being looked at by Juventus as the Old Lady seems to have failed in their bid to get Llorente. The bad news is that the price being quoted (or offered) is only £5million. As much as we don’t want the Greatest Striker In The World back at Arsenal, I really think he should be worth more than that after his performances at the Euros this summer…… .......Read the full article here
The Dutch international Ibrahim Afellay was not even part of the squad selected by Tito Vilanova for Barcelona’s La Liga game yesterday. The 26-year old midfielder must be aware that if he does not find a new club before midnight on Friday, then he will not be playing much football before January at the earliest.
Barcelona were hoping to sell the player who never really got a chance with the Spanish side after picking up an injury early on last season. A lengthy lay off meant that by the time he returned, young players such as Pedro and Tello had progressed through the youth system and were ahead of him in the pecking order. .......Read the full article here
Well it seems that three English clubs have renewed their interest in Ibrahim Afellay and Arsenal along with Chelsea and Liverpool are tipped as the clubs to want the versatile player. Reports suggest that he could spend next season on loan away from Barcelona and the race for the Dutchman has just started.
Afellay was linked with Arsenal early in the transfer period but nothing came of it. Now the attacking midfielder, who can also play as a second striker is itching to get some playing time under his belt after learning that first team football will be scarce under coach Tito Vilanova this season. .......Read the full article here
Arsene Wenger might have to use some French charm if he wants to obtain the services of Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin or Barcelona’s Ibrahim Afellay. Both young midfielders are available, but both seem determined to break in to the first team at their current clubs.
Jose Mourinho has been honest with 23-year old Turkish international Sahin, telling him that it might be in the youngster’s best interest to go on loan. He is facing a struggle to get much playing time, especially if the capture of Luka Modric from Tottenham is completed. .......Read the full article here
Arsene Wenger will be cursing the European championships after hearing the latest bad news. Tomas Rosicky has had to have an operation to remove swelling on his Achilles tendon and will not return for two months.
The involvement of France and Germany in the competition has already caused Arsenal to leave their two new signings, Podolski and Giroud, in London while the tour of Asia takes place. Laurent Koscielny has also missed the pre-season tour and the three players will only have one game before the season starts. .......Read the full article here
Barcelona’s 26-year old Dutch international Ibrahim Afellay will almost certainly be leaving the Spanish club this summer. Tito Vilanova has made it clear to the attacking midfielder that he will struggle to get regular football.
The transfer fee seems to be a bargain at around 8 million euros but Afellay is being choosy about his destination. He has already turned down a move to Lille, and it was thought that he was hoping for a move to Arsenal. Arsene Wenger has not made an offer yet, perhaps he needs to sell a couple of players first. .......Read the full article here
News reports today suggest that Ibrahim Afellay could be on his way to the Emirates. The new Barcelona coach, Tito Villanova was firstly adamant that he would keep the Dutch international at the Nou Camp. However, Barcelona have been priced out of a move for Javi Martinez and hence are now looking to increase their budget. As a result, Afellay is now available for sale.
He’s already apparently rejected a move to Ligue 1 side, Lille. He is looking for a much bigger club to come in for him with Arsenal and Inter Milan his main priorities. .......Read the full article here
Arsenal players and transfer targets report from Holland v Denmark by BA
Well that must have been really frustrating for Robin van Persie. The Dutch team had loads of possession and 28 chances but simply could not score. Van Persie missed a few half-chances and should still have done a bit better but the Holland manager Bert Van Marwijk refused to lay the blame on anyone in particular.
He said: ‘It was not only Robin van Persie. There were maybe four, five, six players who had a lot of chances. And the referee had also a chance to give us a penalty. .......Read the full article here
