When Kieran Gibbs picked up an injury last season, luckily for Arsenal it gave Arsene Wenger just enough time to bring in a replacement, otherwise the Gunners might have had to rely on the Brazilian Andre Santos. It is not stretching things too much to say that this could have cost Arsenal their place in this season’s Champions League.

Life must seem like a bit of a whirlwind for the new Arsenal left back Nacho Monreal. Kieran Gibbs is still not ready to play for Arsenal after picking up a thigh problem against West Ham at the start of October. It is a real worry for Arsene Wenger and the Gunners because his stand in, Andre Santos, has been simply dreadful.
