Okay everyone has made their feelings well known over the last few days, but we now have to face the fact that Almunia is going to be the first-choice keeper at Arsenal this season. I have just received this article from one of our original Guest Posters, and he is sick and tired of all the negative comments about Almunia. There are ten other players in the team a well, and the Spaniard can still be a world-beater.
An Angry Article (from Edward Sikorski)
I am annoyed. I am sick and tired of this. I can’t resist it. .......Read the full article here

We have had confirmation from all sides that Arsene Wenger has been trying to secure a new goalkeeper this summer. Peter Hill-Wood announced right at the beginning of the summer break that Arsenal had had an offer for Mark Schwarzer turned down, and since then the Gunners have been linked with every available goalkeeper from here to Siberia.
It was admitted by Cagliari that Arsenal had made a bid for Federico Marchetti, so much so that he asked them for a transfer and prepared to leave, but the deal fell through because the two sides couldn’t agree on a valuation. .......Read the full article here

Arsene Wenger’s press conference yesterday was very revealing in many ways, and no less on the transfer front. He admitted a couple of times that he was looking for reinforcements, but also said that he wasn’t close to signing anyone at all!
With just ten days to go it is becoming “squeaky bum time” in the transfer market, and it is now becoming obvious that Arsenal are on the lookout for another goalkeeper. Wenger was asked about the two most likely arrivals, and first of all he explained that Shay Given would be impossible for anyone to buy because of the wages he is on at the Eastlands. In fact Man City will find it very difficult to offload ANY of their surplus players. .......Read the full article here

Today we have another Guest Post from Adam Kemp, who was quite incensed after seeing Arsenal only just manage a point against a Liverpool side that were one man down for most of the second half……..
Almunia proves costly yet again as Arsenal draw!
After criticizing Arsenal’s lack of key signings this summer, it is clear to see from the performance today that Almunia is not good enough to be our Number One. In the first half he was his usual timid self, flapping at corners and looking nervous. .......Read the full article here

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has announced that whoever he picks to start in goal today against Liverpool, will be his Number One goalkeeper this season.
“The goalkeepers are great, all ready to play,” Wenger said. “I just wait for my decision and you will get it soon.
“The guy who plays on Sunday will be No 1. It is never for definite but it will be a consequence of what I have seen in pre-season.” .......Read the full article here

The rumours surrounding the Arsenal goalkeeping situation just refuse to go away, despite Fulham issuing a denial that Mark Schwarzer has asked for a transfer to Arsenal.
The latest “merry-go-round” rumours are being sparked by another story that Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill resigned because Brad Friedel has asked to rejoin his old boss Mark Hughes at Fulham, which has yet again brought up the possible move of Schwarzer to the Emirates!
If you think this is getting complicated, then you won’t be surprised to know that the circle has been rounded off with the suggestion from the Daily Mirror that Aston Villa are happy to take Manuel Almunia to Villa Park as Friedel’s replacement! .......Read the full article here

We have yet another guest writer today, in the form of Tom (aka Kid Harpoon), who has been keen to address the goalkeeping question, especially after the countless rumours linking Arsenal with every available goalkeeper in the world this summer. It started with Hill-Wood admitting that Arsenal had made a bid for Mark Schwarzer, and it seems to have ended with new Fulham manager Mark Hughes refusing to sell the Australian. Over to Tom…..
Why Almunia will still be Number One this season .......Read the full article here

Acouple of snippets of news today regarding our illustrious Number One goalkeeper Manuel Almunia and our I’ll-be-best-in-world striker Nicklas Bendtner.
The first story seems to pour cold water on the ongoing rumours tha Arsene Wenger is going to sell Almunia to make room for a replacement, as the Spanish stopper has no intention of leaving until his contract ends, in two years time!
“I don’t need to convince anybody, I just do my job.” said Almunia in the Telegraph. “I have a couple more years on my contract and that’s it, I’m an Arsenal player.” .......Read the full article here

There is a report this morning saying that Arsenal are still trying to find a Spanish club to take Manuel Almunia off their hands to make room for Mark Schwarzer in the squad.
The Goon Blog says this morning that Arsenal were in talks with the Spanish La Liga side Osasuna, but they have a stumbling block in the size of Almunia’s wage packet, which is said to be £50,000 a week. It seems that the only way to get past it is if Arsenal allow Almunia to leave on a virtual free transfer to give Osasuna more money to pay the 32 year-old’s wages. .......Read the full article here

Just a few days ago, Arsene Wenger made a statement rubbishing the rumours that Eduardo Da Silva would be leaving the Emirates this summer. He said: “Eduardo is an Arsenal player and I am expecting a lot from him this season,”
“He had a terrible injury – he went through hell – but I think his workrate is fantastic and his determination, which is exceptional, will be of great use to Arsenal.”
But last night it was revealed that the Croatian striker took a medical with the doctors from Shakhtar Donetsk on Monday, and after being passed fit, is now going to join the Ukranian giants for a fee of £6.2m! .......Read the full article here

Arsenal begin their pre-season campaign at Barnet today, and the Gunners fans are still waiting expectantly for news on a new goalkeeper to be added to the squad. In the meantime, the team going to Underhill will have last season’s first and second choice keepers, Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski, fighting it out for the Number One jersey.
Arsene Wenger gave Fabianski a chance to prove himself at the end of last season, when Almunia had one of his mystery “wrist injuries” again, but the Pole failed miserably to convince the watching Gooners that he was capable of replacing Almunia as Number One. .......Read the full article here
