Is McCarthy the answer for Arsenal in midfield? 61

Wigan star set for Arsenal by SS

Arsenal are apparently preparing an early summer bid for Wigan midfielder James McCarthy. The young midfielder has been in good form this season and continued to grow as a player as he has done since his arrival at Wigan.

He was the subject of bids from many top English clubs when he was younger but he chose to move to Wigan in the hope that he wouldn’t be left in the reserves until his early 20′s. He made the right choice to move to Wigan because he has had plenty of game time in the last few seasons and has been an architect of Wigan’s famous end of season survivals.

Arsenal Debate- which Gunners have really fired this year? 54

Three stars who’ve shone for Arsenal this season by FD

With all the talk of transfers and who’s likely to be joining the club this summer, it’s worth just reflecting on the players who’ve contributed the most to Arsenal’s current season. Of course, the next few matches will ultimately decide whether we can salvage some degree of success from another trophy-less campaign, but regardless of where we finish in the league, I believe there are a few players who can hold their heads high and be satisfied with how they’ve performed.

Arsenal MUST push for title next year says Arteta 67

Posted on April 30, 2013 by Bob

Everybody concerned with Arsenal Football Club is concentrating on one thing at the moment, finishing in the top four ahead of Tottenham or Chelsea, or preferably both. This will make it a good finish to another disappointing campaign, though, and it is just not good enough for the fans or the players.

Mikel Arteta took a pay cut to join the Gunners, apparently, and must have hoped that he would have helped us to some silverware by now. He has, of course, had the chance to play in Europe’s elite competition, but giving the Guard of Honour to Manchester United on Saturday has just reinforced the need for Arsenal to put up a proper challenge to win the league ourselves next season.

Arteta and Ramsey know that nerves are crucial for Arsenal 34

Posted on April 30, 2013 by Bob

Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey have formed a great partnership at the heart of the Arsenal midfield. Arsene Wenger has started them together in eight of the last nine games for the Gunners. The defenders have credited them with a big influence on the improvement in the goals conceded tally and they provide a solid platform for Arsenal to control the game and push forward.

Both players know that if they can keep it up and the rest of the players can hold their nerve for the next three games, we have a great chance of a top four finish and entry into the Champions League next season. After a scrappy start to the season, which was mirrored by the club as a whole, Ramsey has improved greatly and believes that Arsenal are doing the right thing at the moment.

Arsenal vs. Man United preview, prediction and team 27

Game Preview by Adnan

Arsenal welcome(sort of) Manchester United, who have won the English Premier League, to the Emirates today for a match that is decidedly crucial for the Gunners and perhaps a little less so for the Red Devils. Of course, along with the visit comes former Gunner and the man of the moment with a hat-trick in his very last game, Robin van Persie, who scored in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

Arteta and Ramsey vital for Arsenal defence 64

Posted on April 25, 2013 by Bob

Since the huge disappointment of losing the north London derby, Arsenal have bounced back with a great run of games. One of the key factors in that has been the Gunners defensive displays, conceding just three goals in seven games. Arsene Wenger reacted to the Tottenham defeat by dropping the captain Thomas Vermaelen in favour of Laurent Koscielny, and the French centre back has grabbed his chance. Koscielny, however, is not taking the credit, instead hailing the influence of the midfielders who have been working hard to protect the back four.

Why Arsenal’s Spaniard should have been in PFA list 33

Posted on April 22, 2013 by Bob

There are always bones of contention when the PFA announces it’s shortlist for the Player of the Season award and this year is no different. Not one Arsenal player made the list, despite statistics showing that the Gunners have had some high performances this season. The one Arsenal player that should feel the most disappointed not to have made the list is the little Spanish magician Santi Cazorla.

Chelsea have two midfielders in the six man list, Juan Mata and Eden Hazard, while the Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick also appears on it. The only one of these three that can be compared to Cazorla this season is Juan Mata. Cazorla has scored more Premier League goals than any of them, with 12 so far.

Is Aaron Ramsey ready to be Arsenal’s new DM? 45

Aaron Ramsey’s best position? by AH

Aaron Ramsey is a player that the fans have mixed opinions on. For the majority of the season he’s been knocked down by the fans but in recent weeks his strong performances have earned him a little more praise. In yesterday’s game he wasn’t the same player that we had seen put in some magnificent performances in recent weeks but he still manages to have control over the game and in fact his role in this team may be a little more important than we imagined.

Discuss – Aaron Ramsey is now indispensable to Arsenal 48

Comments on Ramsey and Arsenal tactics by VSM

So, coming off a disappointing but not detrimental 0-0 draw with Everton, there are both positives and negatives to take. The first positive to take is the fantastic performances from Aaron Ramsey that we’ve seen both today and on Saturday. Previously I had always been a fan of his work rate. But his passes weren’t clinical enough sometimes and he would sometimes linger on the ball a bit and prevent a potential move. However, what I saw at the Emirates on Saturday and Tuesday night was a mature passing game combined with quick and efficient passing.

Could Arteta emulate Beckham and give Arsenal 6 more years? 40

Posted on April 17, 2013 by Bob

Mikel Arteta has been at Arsenal for just two seasons, after spending seven years at last night’s opponents Everton. At 31-years old, people are starting to talk about when the Spaniard might retire, but Arteta wants to take a leaf out of David Beckham’s book and play at the top level for as long as his body will allow it.

Arteta was surprised about the criticism Beckham received after starting for Paris Saint-Germain against Barcelona recently, and feels it was unjustified. The former England captain is an inspiration to Arsenal’s vice-captain, who now plays in the same deep lying position. They have both moved from different positions into this role and that may be the way for Arteta to continue his Arsenal career.

Is Ramsey crucial to Arsenal’s top four place? 65

Posted on April 17, 2013 by Bob

There are few things more likely to cause an argument between a group of Arsenal fans than the subject of Aaron Ramsey. The Welsh international midfielder could build a roof with all the slating he has had over the past two seasons, but he has been voted as the Man of the Match on the official Arsenal website in the last two games and may finally be back to the player he was before his terrible leg break injury.

Arsenal v Norwich Review – Stuttering Arsenal finally come good! 347

Posted on April 13, 2013 by admin

Arsene Wenger made a couple of forced changes to last weeks side. Per Mertesacker was banned so the captain Thomas Vermaelen was given a chance to redeem himself, and young Jack Wilshere was on from the start, despite a long break from the first time.

The first half was mostly uneventful with neither side seeming to be willing to take control, with Wilshere looking to be short of a pace or two, and there was a little late flurry of corners for Arsenal just before the whistle.

In the second half things certainly hotted up but not the way we were expecting! Gibbs fouled Kei Kamara and suddenly Norwich took the lead as Micheal Turner headed in Snodgrass’ free kick…. Uh-Oh!
