It seems that, for the moment, Wojciech Szczesny has got the Arsenal number one jersey nailed down, but Arsene Wenger showed last year that he has no qualms about dropping the Polish international if his performances are not up to scratch.
Szczesny is well aware that there are two players ready and waiting for their chance. In fact, Lukasz Fabianski has already played one game this season, against West Brom in the Capital One cup, and he performed well. The other keeper is yet to make his Arsenal debut, having joined the Gunners on loan for the season, but Emiliano Viviano is not worried and is working hard to be ready when his chance does come. .......Read the full article here
Arsenal have two of the top three keepers in the squad out of action due to injury, so reports last week that Vito Mannone was looking for a return to Italy were about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit. The 24-year old Italian keeper has reassured Gooners that he has no intention of leaving the Emirates anytime in the foreseeable future.
“I want to make it clear, because there have been unfounded rumours, that my contract is not ending in 12 months.
The Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has categorically denied that he will be leaving Juventus to join Arsenal, despite many rumours to the contrary. Juventus have had an awful season, but that has not convinced the brilliant stopper to consider moving on.
“Next year I will still be at Juventus,” Buffon said. “I don’t think there is such a possibility of me going to Arsenal. My intentions and that of the club are to continue together.
“It’s been a disappointing season, we missed too many opportunities. Now Europe is the minimum target and is a question of dignity.” .......Read the full article here
There have been some interesting Arsenal transfer rumours this week about a new goalkeeper at the Emirates. Earlier this week it was revealed that the Dutch keeper Maarten Stekelenberg had said “‘I have possibly played my last game for Ajax. If an offer from Arsenal arrives, I will leave.”
At 28, the Dutch international could be around for a long time which may not suit Arsene Wenger with the young Pole Wojciech Szczesny playing so well, but what about Gianluigi Buffon?
The fantastic Italy and Juventus keeper still has two years on his contract with the “Old Lady”, but apparently there is a clause in his contract that means he can leave for free this summer. .......Read the full article here
It is not worth mentioning Cesc Fabregas in todays roundup of the Arsenal transfer news, as every website and his dog has already covered the bad news. The last few weeks rumoured have mostly concentrated on goalkeepers, but I expect the next couple will be looking at who Arsenal could buy to replace Fabregas. .......Read the full article here
Arsenal are still being linked with every available goalkeeper in Europe and beyond, but today we have the news that Leeds are interested in signing one of ours for a change! Wojciech Szczesny had a very impressive loan period at Brentford last season, and newly promoted Leeds United are now enquiring to see if they can give him some more experience in the Championship next season.
Leeds boss Simon Grayson saw Szczesny play brilliantly when his team met Brentford earlier this season, and is hopeful that Wenger will want the young Polish international to carry on his apprenticeship by stepping up a league. The 18 year-old is expected to be first-choice at Arsenal in a few years if he carrys on his present rate of progression. .......Read the full article here
There has been increased speculation over the last few days that the Italian goalkeeping legend Gigi Buffon was negotiating a move to Arsenal behind the scenes, with one paper even suggesting that there was a pre-contract already drawn up.
But Buffon’s agent, Silvano Martina, said: “There is no news. It’s just whispers, things that the press are writing. Every time I find myself commenting on these rumours, but there is absolutely nothing in it.”
It is no great surprise, considering that Arsenal have been linked with just about every available goalkeeper in Europe in the last few weeks, with more and more “whispers” saying that Arsene Wenger is guaranteed to buy a top-class keeper this summer. .......Read the full article here
The Arsenal rumours are still coming in, and today’s goalkeeper is the Italian legend Gigi Buffon again. It is being reported that Arsenal are now favourites to sign the 30 year-old, and judging by the reaction from the fans, it is a great idea to bring him in while the young Pole Woljeich Szcesney gains a couple of years more experience out on loan. .......Read the full article here
There is another good selection of Arsenal transfer rumours coming in today, and this time we have THREE goalkeepers on the list. I suppose because Lukasz Fabianski has come under fire again after yesterdays defeat to Blackburn, the papers are absolutely determined to put every available goalkeeper in the world in the frame for a move to the Emirates.
Joe Hart has been linked for a while now, but I seriously can’t see Man City selling him now that he has gained some Premiership experience at Birmingham, especially now they have seen the need for a competent substitute for Given. .......Read the full article here
There is a glut of Arsenal rumours in the papers this morning, although a couple of them seem a little outlandish to me.
To start with, The Times has added Arsenal to the growing list of admirers, along with Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City, linked with the young Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell.
Rodwell has long been tipped as an England star of the future, but David Moyes is notorious for getting astronomical prices when his young stars are prised away from Goodison Park. .......Read the full article here
Arsenal’s new young goalkeeping hero, Vito Mannone, has revealed today that he came close to going out on loan to a Championship side in pre-season, but once Lukas Fabianski got injured, he was asked to stay as understudy to Almunia.
“In the summer, yes, we had a talk about a loan move,” Vito said. “The boss was quite happy for me to go somewhere and play, because as you can see now, I was ready to play games. .......Read the full article here
