Arsenal keeping all players – What about Signing Some? 62

Posted on January 11, 2013 by Bob

Arsenal have already released a couple of players on loan deals during this transfer window, with Marouane Chamakh off to West Ham for the rest of the season and Johan Djourou joining Hannover in the German Dundesliga. There have been expectations that Squaillachi and Arshavin might also be on their way out of the Emirates, but Arsene Wenger has said that Arsenal are not looking to offload any more players at the minute.

“At the moment, no.

“We have a good squad, a balanced one. At the moment, nobody can go out unless we buy somebody. At the moment our focus is to keep everybody. In every position we have two players. Three is two many and one is not enough.”

So just who is `right` for Arsenal then Wenger? 176

Don’t worry Arsenal fans, Arsene Wenger is not just sitting on his hands while rival teams snap up players like Demba Ba, Lewis Holtby and Daniel Sturridge. Arsenal are like a cheetah on the African savannah, lying in wait, coiled like a spring ready to pounce. Any old antelope won’t do, however. We are waiting for the juiciest, most succulent prey to come along. The only problem is, we might starve to death before that happens.

“We are on the market, and if we find the right players we will do something.”

Why Arsenal haven’t won anything in seven years by Ix Techau

The plan was never to sell Henry, Pires or Vieira, instead the hope was to follow the same pattern as Man Utd did with players like Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. But as the long-term plan was in place, the financial benefit of selling these players would mean accelerating the reduction in debt, and that’s where the first big mistake was made. It wasn’t solely the board’s or Wenger’s fault though, the players themselves had expressed a desire to move on.

Djourou leaves Arsenal but only on loan! 28

Arsenal have made more room in the dressing room and freed up more wages for new players by agreeing a deal with the German Bundesliga side Hannover that will see Johan Djourouu play for them until the end of the season. Arsenal fans were probably hoping that the deal would be a permanent transfer, but if the Swiss international plays well for them it probably will become so.

The main thing is that his wages can now go elsewhere. We have already done the same with Marouane Chamakh. The Moroccan striker has joined the Premier league side West Ham, also until the end of the season. If the rumours about the imminent departure of Sebastien Squillachi are true, then Arsenal will have released a significant amount of money from the wage bill.

Arsenal Pair Sent Out On Loan by AH

Arsenal have today successfully negotiated terms with two teams which will see both Marouane Chamakh and Johan Djourou leave the club on respective short term loans.

Chamakh has joined fellow London club West Ham United and will be looking to provide support in the Hammers strike force as they look to push up the table. Whilst Djourou is off to Germany to play for Bundesliga side Hannover.

Why Arsenal will not sign Llorente 48

Posted on January 04, 2013 by Bob

There are quite a few Arsenal fans and pundits who are frustrated that Chelsea have signed Demba Ba from Newcastle without Arsene Wenger appearing to fight too hard to make him a Gunner. With a release clause of just £7.5 million, and having scored 29 Premier league goals in just 54 games for Newcastle, Ba seemed to be a bargain and Wenger admitted he rated the striker.

Le Prof has revealed the reason that he did not challenge Chelsea for Ba, or try to sign him in the summer. The reason is Olivier Giroud. Wenger has tried a number of forwards who fit the mould of Giroud and Ba, including Bendtner and Chamakh. The Arsenal boss has been searching for a big, powerful striker who will add something to the speed and creativity that Arsenal are famous for, and once he chose Giroud, he was not going to sign another.

Marouane Chamakh first victim of Arsenal clear-out 36

It seems that Arsenal are gearing up for the beginning of the transfer window on January 1st, and the first player to be shown the door is expected to be the Morrocan striker Marouane Chamakh, after the Telegraph revealed that “Sam Allardyce met with Chamakh’s agent Pierre Frelot on Friday night and expects the green light from Arsenal,”

Wenger has already clearly hinted he would allow the Morrocan to leave last month when he was discussing the arrival of Thierry Henry, when he said: “…..Especially if for example, Chamakh should go, because I cannot stand in his way now.”

Arsenal could swap Chamakh for Diame with West Ham 54

Posted on December 15, 2012 by Bob

If Arsenal can persuade West Ham to go for this deal, it will confirm that Arsene Wenger, as Alex Ferguson suggested in the summer, would make an excellent poker player. West Ham are keen to boost their striking options and are thinking about a loan move for the Arsenal outcast Marouane Chamakh. Arsene Wenger has had to accept that Abou Diaby may never be able to play many games for the Gunners and Mohamed Diame is reported to be one of the dynamic midfielders that may be brought to the the Emirates in January.

Where do Arsenal go from here……. by LS

I don’t think I will be the first Arsenal supporter to say that Tuesday nights disastrous performance against league 2 Bradford was one of, if not the worst of recent years.

We lacked leadership, technique, pace and above all the will to win the game at any cost. But this is not only isolated to Tuesday night. We have performed consistently poorly this season, however somehow still maintaining 6th spot in the league, probably more down to the fact that every other team has been so inconsistent.

Bergkamp was snubbed as Arsenal coach says Wright 86

Posted on December 12, 2012 by Bob

Former Arsenal player and goal scorer extraordinaire, Ian Wright, has claimed that another Gunners legend, Dennis Bergkamp, wanted to come to the Emirates as a coach but was turned down by Arsene Wenger. Wright also called for the resignation of some board members and a move to bring David Dein back to the club.

Wright was as shocked as the rest of us by the defeat, and the manner of it, by Bradford last night, and he believes that enough is enough and some drastic changes should be made. The former striker also seems to have joined the growing ranks of Gooners who have lost faith in Wenger and his ability to turn the poor current form around.

How Long can Wenger defend Arsenal Flops? 64

Posted on December 12, 2012 by Bob

Arsene Wenger was obviously fuming after Arsenal were knocked out of the Capital One cup at Bradford last night. The reason he was angry, however, was because the reporter at the post match interview dared to suggest that the defeat was humiliating and the Arsenal players had not been good enough. Wenger barely managed a reply before storming off.

I hate to break it to you, Arsene, but it WAS humiliating and the Arsenal players were not good enough, ask any Arsenal fan, go on anybody. To be fair to Wenger, he selected a very strong side, much stronger than anybody expected, but that makes the abject performance even harder to take.

Team news for Bradford vs. Arsenal – no Walcott, Giroud or Sagna! 56

Posted on December 10, 2012 by Bob

Arsene Wenger has vowed to take an experienced squad up north to face Bradford at Valley Parade tomorrow, but due to injury, his Arsenal squad will have some notable absences. The most worrying situation for us is up front, as Olivier Giroud has joined Theo Walcott on the sidelines.

The French striker will not be out for long but will miss the cup quarter final due to an injury to his back sustained during the Premier league victory against West Brom on Saturday. His size and strength would have been very useful dealing with the rugged Bradford defence, and Chamakh might get to play in his fourth game of the season. The Moroccan was useful against Reading and already has two goals in the competition.
