Podolski Keen On Suarez by Ash
Lukas Podolski may be one of the best players at Arsenal, but he certainly doesn’t have a starting spot nailed down in the first eleven. And if reports are true in saying we are signing Luis Suarez, then his chances as a first teamer will be further reduced. However he was still keen on speaking about the potential arrival of Luis Suarez at Arsenal after the Gunners lodged a second bid for the Uruguayan and he has permission to talk to us.
Why competition for places is key! by Ash
On the basis of players potentially joining the club, I often see fans being quite pessimistic in my opinion and state that we don’t need to sign one player because we already have a player for that position. Some fans also take the Arsene Wenger approach and say that by purchasing a certain player will “kill off” another. I too admit that I’ve said this a few times, most notably with Wojiech Szszesny, however I’ve come to realise, competition for places in the start XI is key to be successful.
Can Jenkinson fill a Sagna shaped hole? by DG
Although Bacary Sagna has yet to officially decide on his future, many Arsenal fans have already decided they would rather he leaves. Sagna has struggled to find consistent form this season, and although the player himself is yet to make up his mind, it seems most fans are preparing for a life without him. Sagna has been a loyal servant to the club, and if he does leave this summer I will remember him fondly and wish him the best of luck.
There has been much talk of Arsenal’s record amount of funds in the transfer kitty this summer, but with the current squad ending the season with a brilliant ten-game unbeaten run Wenger seemed to hint that there is not much need for reinforcements to be brought in.
“In the last three months, I believe we have been remarkably consistent.” Wenger said: “We won every away game so it’s a good springboard for next season, to transfer that belief into the start of next season. That means we need stability and to strengthen our group if possible. There are many clubs out there with a lot of money so the competition is very hard. There’s not as much talent as money today in football.”
This is exactly the kind of headache that Arsene Wenger would like to have in every position as he now has to decide whether to keep Wojciech Szczesny in between the sticks now that his compatriot Lukasz Fabianski is fit enough to be reinstated in the Arsenal starting XI.
In the run up to the QPR game, Wenger said of Fabianski: “He is still unavailable. From next week onwards, he should be alright.” which suggest he will be available for the next game against Wigan, which is still 8 days away.
