The Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas tried extremely hard to bring the Brazilian hitman Damiao to White Hart Lane in the transfer window, but although he failed, he still believes that his current strike force is already better than his two rivals for the Top Four, Arsenal and Chelsea.
AVB said after losing out on on the 20million-rated Damiao: “Things were very close but we needed more time.
“It was neither party’s fault but it just didn’t quite work out as we would have liked.”
We have been told that Arsene Wenger has £35 million or more to spend strengthening the Arsenal squad, and so speculation is rife as to which player or players might be on their way to the Emirates in the January transfer window. The latest rumour concerns the Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao.
23-year old Damiao has played for the Brazilian club Internacional since being promoted into the first team in 2012 and helping them to win the Copa Libertadores. The Brazilian star striker Leandro Damiao still has a chance to leave the Brazilian league, after Internacional’s vice-president Luciano Davi declared that the talented hitman, who is currently playing for Brazil at the Olympics, has already rejected some offers and will certainly receive more.
Arsenal are believed to be one of the clubs interested in Damiao, with Wenger trying to add another striker to his squad given the possibility of Van Persie’s departure this summer.
