David Moyes preparing to replace Wenger at Arsenal? 73

Posted on February 17, 2013 by admin

Arsene Wenger has been charged with getting Arsenal into the Champions League places every season, and the position has now been renamed as “The Wenger Cup”. Last season the Gunners just scraped into the Champions League, but now for the first time in 16 years it looks like this position could be in serious danger of slipping away from him.

The facile defeats to both Bradford and Blackburn in the two domestic Cups has left Arsenal fans bewildered by what is going on behind the seasons. In past years, even though Wenger regularly sold his best players, he still managed to motivate the remaining squad to excel during the season, but this motivating force seems to have deserted him and it could be that the once-great manager may resign at the end of eight trophyless seasons.

Fabregas – We were sloppy……but inspiring! 4

The Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is confident that the Gunners have what it takes to win the Premier League this season and the performance at the Emirtes against Everton showed this. Though he admitted that the team did not start well.

He said: “We were not up for it at the start against Everton and we were very sloppy. We know that we could have paid for it, but fortunately the team stepped up”.

He continued: “It is a very inspiring comeback and maybe we needed something like that to lift us and see that even with injuries and suspensions, we can still have a really strong squad”.

Fabregas – I was very upset….. 3

The Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has recently been accused of spending too much time complaining to match officials during games but the player believes he knows where and when to draw the line, but he does admit that he was “upset” at the time!

He was accused of speaking to referee Lee Mason by Everton boss David Moyes. However the FA did not see this mentioned in Lee Mason’s match report about the game that Arsenal won 2-1.

Fabregas spoke about the game on the Arsenal website: “There has been much talk about me saying things to the officials at half-time on Tuesday night. All I can say is that I have respect for all match officials. Their job is a very difficult one and their decisions are final”.

Everton set to finalise Senderos loan deal 1

According to a report this morning from the Liverpool Echo, the Arsenal defender Phillipe Senderos is close to securing his desired move away from the Emirates. They report that talks are at an advanced stage and the Switzerland internatonal will become David Moyes second signing of this transfer window after the Ameican striker Landon Donovan arrived last week.

This is the second time that Moyes has been close to acquiring Senderos, after talks with Arsenal broke down last summer because Everton refused to match Arsenal’s asking price.

But now that Senderos has pleaded with Wenger to let him go, and Arsenal have secured Sol Campbell as cover, their are no more obstacles to the deal.

Liverpool offer Ryan Babel in exchange for Senderos! Or will he go to Everton? 14

The Phillipe Senderos saga continues to fascinate the papers on the day that Arsenal go top of the League. Arsene Wenger admitted yesterday that Celtic was a possible destination for the Switzerland defender, but the player himself decided to hold out for a better offer from a bigger team (Bigger than Celtic? Hmm…)

After Senderos said that he was going to wait to see what other offers materialised, the Celtic manager Tony Mowbray tried to play down his interest in him.

Everton back in for Senderos? 2

There are various reports this morning suggesting that the Arsenal defender Phillipe Senderos will make a move to Goodison Park in January.

Senderos seems to have a problem with Arsene Wenger as he continually refuses to even give him a place on the Arsenal bench, and he has admitted that after speaking to the manager he will be allowed to leave if the right offer comes in.

David Moyes came very close to signing Senderos in the summer, and with his injury list growing every week, he is desperate to bring in three or four reinforcements in January.

Moyes said: “The situation hasn’t changed regarding finance.
