Do Arsenal produce enough GOOD English players? 71

Arsenal’s answer to Hodgson by AH

In light of what Roy Hodgsen said about the lack of English footballers playing in the Premier League, Arsene Wenger spoke about the English talent he had in the Arsenal ranks. Wenger told Arsenal.com about the English divisions that implicate upcoming talent as well as the understanding that all the players want to play in the best league, suggesting that if all the highest quality of players are of different nationalities to English then its inevitable that there will be a decline in English players at the best clubs. However Wenger did make a very important point about English talent and the future.

Injuries to Craig Eastmond and Sanchez Watt destroy Colchester 20

It is not just the current Arsenal team that is troubled by ongoing injury problems, it seems that the up-and-coming youngsters are also suffering this season, and the two Arsenal players on loan at Colchester United have destroyed the form of Joe Dunne’s team.

Eastmond had to return to Arsenal this weekend after breaking his metatarsal in training on Friday, and Sanchez Watt earlier returned with a serious hamstring injury. Dunne is extremely angry that the team is useless without his Arsenal loanees.

Colchester were toothless in the 2-0 defeat at home to Oldham this weekend, and Dunne’s anger turned into a rant at the U’s team. He said: “We’ve lost Craig for good.

Two Arsenal youngsters to go on loan 15

Newly appointed Colchester boss, Joe Dunne, has made short work in shaping the U’s squad with the speedy signatures of a Gunner duo. Arsenal’s Craig Eastmond and Sanchez Watt have both signed on for Colchester on a three-month loan deal. Dunne has spared no time in securing the loan deals having been appointed as manager on Thursday morning. The Arsenal duo agreed to the loan deal within the first 24 hours of their new manager’s appointment as head coach.

Midfielder Eastmond and striker Watt, both 21, have each enjoyed first-team action for the Gunners and also benefited from loan spells away from the Emirates and will be eager to kick start their careers with a successful loan spell with the U’s.

Eastmond, Arshavin and Squillaci named in Arsenal’s official Premier League squad 27

There were not many surprises when Arsenal confirmed their official squads for this season’s Premier League campaign, except for the inclusion of the midfielder Craig Eastmond, who featured in Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat of Everton in the U21 League on Monday. The other surprises for me are Sebastien Squillaci and Andrei Arshavin, who everyone thought would be leaving the club this summer even if it was only a loan move.

Here is the full squad: Arshavin, Arteta, Cazorla, Chamakh, Santos, Diaby, Djourou, Eastmond, Fabianski, Gervinho, Gibbs, Giroud, Koscielny, Mannone, Mertesacker, Podolski, Ramsey, Rosicky, Sagna, Squillaci, Szczesny, Vermaelen, Walcott. (Obviously there are no players aged under 21 included in this list)

What now for Eastmond and Vela? 15

It has been a while since we had any Guest Posts, but here is one from Ahmed, who is worried about the development of two Arsenal players that are just outside the first team………

While it is much publicized that the Gunners need some experience at the back I wanted to address an experience issue in other parts of the pitch: midfield & striker. What I mean by this is possible loan moves for Craig Eastmond and Carlos Vela. I think both are wasting away on the bench and Arsenal can do more to further their development. There are a few clubs that could use these two:

Fran Merida - Great goal!

Fran Merida - Great goal!

Arsenal reached the quarter-finals of the League Cup last night with a 2-1 win over Liverpool, and Arsene Wenger was full of praise for the youngsters that came in and performed magnificently.

A full debut was given to Craig Eastmond, and Fran Merida topped a good performance with a fantastic goal. The winner from Nicklas Bendtner was a lesson in passing as the ball was touched by just about every Arsenal player in the build-up.
