Should Arsenal line-up free-agent Huntelaar? 34

Posted on October 23, 2012 by admin

When Robin Van Persie left the Emirates in the summer, many Arsenal fans thought that his Dutch compatriot Klaas-Jan Huntelaar would have been the perfect replacement in the Arsenal forward line. Instead Arsenal brought in Olivier Giroud but it has become increasingly clear that Arsenal cannot cope with with just one out-and-out centre-forward in the team.

There is always the possibility that Wenger is being his usual stingy self and is waiting for Huntelaar’s contract with Schalke to run out this summer so that he can sign him for nothing at the end of the season.

No Arsenal offer for Drogba…..yet! 15

Wenger dismisses Drogba reports-or does he? by TS

We all know Arsene Wenger keeps his cards close to his chest and even when he doesn’t you can never tell what he’s up to. However, I want to think what he had to say about Drogba being linked with Arsenal is true. Wenger insisted that Arsenal are not about to offer Didier Drogba a route back to the Premier League. Happy days.

Will Afellay arrival at Arsenal persuade Van Persie to stay? 194

Posted on May 31, 2012 by admin

Arsene Wenger could face competition from Tottenham and Newcastle, but can easily afford the reported fee of £6 million for Ibrahim Afellay. 26-year old Dutch international Afellay is being released by the Catalan club.

He is a creative midfield who can also play as a winger. In his first season with Barcelona, he made 29 appearances and seemed to be settling well into their style of play. However, last September, he suffered a terrible knee injury that required extensive surgery and was not seen in a Barcelona shirt again until the end of April.

Salomon Kalou linked with Arsenal again 49

Posted on May 12, 2012 by admin

There have been many Arsenal transfer rumours flying about but the early links with Salomon Kalou seemed to have been forgotten about. The Chelsea striker has been in great form for the Blues since Roberto Di Matteo was appointed manager and the Ivorian international has been getting a regular run in the first-team.

Everyone has been discussing whether Didier Drogba will be signing a new contract at Stamgford Bridge but (like Van Persie and Walcott at Arsenal) everyone seems to forget that Kalou is also out of contract this summer, meaning he can leave as a free agent this summer if he wants.

Arsenal to replace Arshavin with Junior Hoilett? 52

Posted on May 08, 2012 by admin

Although Arsene Wenger (and nearly every Arsenal fan) lost confidence in the little Russian Andrei Arshavin, it seems that a return to his hometown club Zenit St. Petersburg has given the Russia captain a new lease of life and he has helped his old club to win the League title.

This is good news for Arsenal as this increases the likelihood that Zenit will make his loan move permanent this summer, and Arsene Wenger will swell his coffers by around £7million if reports are to be believed.

Arsenal linked with new move for free-agent Chelsea striker 59

Posted on March 25, 2012 by admin

A few years ago the Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted that he had approached Chelsea about the availability of their super-sub Ivorian striker Salamon Kalou, and now it seems that the Frenchman has the possibility of bringing Kalou to the Emirates on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The versatile 26 year-old is out of contract at Stamford Bridge this summer and has now had enough of spending large portions of every season sitting on the bench no matter who is in the managers chair at Chelsea, and wants assurances that he will be given more first team starts if he extends his contract.

Wenger chasing French free-agent (and Gameiro) 22

Posted on May 13, 2011 by admin

Arsène Wenger is planning a raid on French Ligue 1 side Lorient as part of his plan to rebuild the Arsenal squad. The two players Wenger is interested in are midfielder Morgan Amalfitano and striker Kevin Gameiro.

Wenger brought in defender Koscielny from Lorient last year and the two clubs look to be continuing their working relationship this summer.

Amalfitano, 26, has been at Lorient since 2008 and has played in 100 games for the club scoring 13 goals in that time. He is currently also being watched by Aston Villa and Sevilla and would be available on a free transfer.

Arsenal close in on free-agent English defender? 16

Posted on March 26, 2011 by admin

There are some interesting stories going around at the moment that Arsene Wenger has found himself yet another bargain, and is arranging for the 19 year-old Charlton defender Carl Jenkinson to join Arsenal for free this summer. Although if its true there would be the usual compensaion for Charlton because of his age.

Jenkinson is an English right-back, but surprisingly has appeared for the Finland U19 team because of his mother! He had broken into the Charlton first team this year, and the Addicks tried very hard to get him to sign a contract extension, but to no avail.

Arsenal Target Mexes – I’ll decide in the summer 15

Posted on March 10, 2011 by admin

The Roma defender Philippe Mexes has not ruled out a move to the Premier League this summer leaving the door open for Arsenal to make a move for the player. The French centre-back has a contract that expires in June alerting top clubs to his availability if he does not extend his stay at Roma.

Arsene Wenger was reportedly keen on taking Mexes to the Emirates in January, but he had already decided to stay at Roma until the end of the season.

TalkSport Radio report that the player has not yet made up his mind about the future. He said: “I have many offers, but I will not decide my future until the season ends”.

Arsenal favourites to sign free-agent Ibrahim Afellay? 33

Posted on November 06, 2010 by admin

The 24 year-old Dutch international Ibrahim Afellay has worked his contract with PSV Eindhoven to a T, and will become the hottest property on the market during the summer transfer window.

Like Joe Cole last summer, Afellay will be able to sell himself to the highest bidder, but it is being reported today that the talented midfielder has already made his mind up to join Arsenal after talking at length to Arsene Wenger last summer.

It was reported that Arsenal made an offer of £7 million for Afellay, but PSV turned it down in the hope that they could persuade him to sign an extension this year, but Afellay was impressed with Wenger’s compliments about him and decided then that he wanted to work with Le Prof.

Robert Pires considering return to England 4

Posted on June 17, 2010 by admin

The ex-Arsenal legend Robert Pires is considering a move back to England after being made a free agent this summer.

Pires has spent four successful years at Villarreal in La Liga since leaving Arsenal in 2006, but the 36 year-old still considers himself fit enough to play at the top level.

He said yesterday: “I’m told Leicester and Birmingham have made serious enquires.”

“I can play in the Premier League but the challenge of getting a team like Leicester promoted is very appealing.”

Pires spent six great years at Arsenal, wining two Premier League titles and three FA Cups under Wenger. He also won a World Cup and a European Championship with France during his long career.

Chamakh – I have Arsenal on my mind…a little! 9

Posted on March 30, 2010 by admin

The Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh has given yet another hint that he has made up his mind to join the Gunners next season, but with Bordeaux on top of Ligue 1 and still in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, he is trying to push his transfer to the back of his mind.

Chamakh told the French Sports paper, L’Equipe: “Do I already have Arsenal on my mind? A little, but our end of the season is so important that I can’t plan for life after Bordeaux.

“I took a risk by not prolonging my contract because I could get injured at any moment. It is the first time I will be a free agent.
