Does the Arsenal boss need some help in the transfer market? 52

Wenger and Indecision by Jon G

Mr Wenger has found some absolute gems in the transfer market in the past, but they were mostly all when he had David Dein at his elbow. You have to wonder if this is more than just a coincidence.

Mr Dein left the ship acrimoniously, never to return and Mr Gazidis has slipped into his place.

However, David Dein did make sure that Mr. Wengers prevarication over decisions on the transfer front were kept to a minimum, and is it a coincidence that since Mr. Dein has left the club we seem to miss out on certain transfers?

Wenger tells Arsenal fans not to panic but we need a reason! 119

Arsene Wenger is expected to bring some significant new players in to the Arsenal side during the transfer window this month. There are some key positions that need improving and covering in case of injury, and Ivan Gazidis has indicated that the Arsenal board will back Wenger to spend some decent money, although the amount is debatable.

It is no surprise, then, that some Gooners have reacted angrily to the Gunners missing out on four players who have been linked with a move to the Emirates. First, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar decided to sign a new contract with his club, Schalke. Then, Chelsea activated the £7 million release clause and signed Demba Ba, while Juventus have almost wrapped up the transfer of the Spanish international striker Fernando Llorente.

Arsenal MUST make Walcott Sign Da Thing! NOW 105

Posted on December 30, 2012 by Bob

Okay, enough is enough, no more messing about. Arsenal need to stop faffing about, stop talking about negotiations, stop trying to save a bit of money and make sure that Theo Walcott is an Arsenal player next season. I was one of the doubters, even though I wanted us to keep him I thought that the central striker role might be beyond him. Four goals in three games cannot be argued with.

If the Gunners let Walcott go to another club, it could turn out to be the worst decision we have made in a long time. Theo yesterday looked almost like the great Thierry Henry. Maybe the 35-year old, who is currently training with the Arsenal squad, has dropped a couple of pearls of wisdom into Theo’s shell-like, but the way Walcott cut inside, tormented defenders and finished was top class.

Arsenal Debate: Who are the Black Scarf Movement and what do they want? 168

The ‘Black Scarf Movement’, friend or foe? by TN

Should we Gooner’s feel threatened by this group or should we embrace both them and their objectives?

I’ve heard said the BSM are a small minority, not representative of the majority of Arsenal fans, they’re only doing this for profit, they’re Arsenal anarchists, they should leave the club and go elsewhere etc etc.

So the question must be, who are these people, are they profit motivated, what are their true objectives ‘profit’ or an Arsenal where the board, manager, team and fans are as one.

Arsenal cannot afford Big Stars! 80

Posted on December 14, 2012 by Bob

Arsenal are one of the most highly profitable clubs in world football. The cost of building the Emirates stadium is nearly paid off, we have qualified for the Champions league second round for the last 13 years and Arsene Wenger has spent next to nothing, in net terms, in the transfer market for years. How is it possible, then, that the Gunners cannot afford to go for a big name player valued at around £30 million?

That is what the former Arsenal defender says he heard when he was with Arsene Wenger recently at the ground. Winterburn himself was surprised because Ivan Gazidis has been letting on that the board are ready and willing to back Wenger in the transfer market, and there have been rumours that around £70 million was left unspent in the summer.

Gazidis Sorry to Arsenal Fans – bit late Ivan! 46

Posted on December 13, 2012 by Bob

I bet the Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis was cursing his luck after scheduling a meeting with Arsenal supporters for the day after the worst result in Arsene Wenger’s time at the Gunners. He probably thought that Wednesday night would be perfect because the fans would be happy to be in a semi-final with a good chance of some silverware after seven lean years, but it proved to be just the opposite.

“I would like to apologise to all of you, especially the fans who travelled up there. I t was unbelievable support as ever, and you deserved better.

Wenger needs to stand up to Arsenal board 44

Posted on December 06, 2012 by Bob

Most Arsenal fans, even those that think it is time for a new manager, accept the fact that Arsene Wenger cares deeply about Arsenal football club. He always backs the board and doesn’t complain when they fail to provide the money he needs to improve. He stepped in recently at the AGM when some supporters were starting to heckle Kroenke, Gazidis and Hill-Wood, and got them out of trouble in the summer by somehow balancing the books.

Wenger is taking the blame for the Arsenal board 77

Posted on December 02, 2012 by Bob

Arsenal fans have been getting more and more fed up and frustrated for years, as the lack of a trophy stretches ever onwards and we have had to stand and wave goodbye to our better players and captains year after year. It has got to the point where we dread the summer transfer window rather than anticipating what new players might come in.

Up until recently, Arsene Wenger seemed fairly bombproof in all of this, with a small minority of fans, including Adam Kemp, blaming Le Prof and calling for a change. Over the last few weeks and after some shocking performances and results, there has been a groundswell of support for the Wenger Out brigade, and I think we are missing a trick.

Will Arsenal board heed Fan’s protest tomorrow? 51

Posted on November 30, 2012 by Bob

There is probably a very simple answer to the above question, and it is not yes. It would be nice to think that the Arsenal fans and their feelings and opinions were important to Stan Kroenke, Ivan Gazidis and Peter Hill-Wood, but I just doubt it somehow. If the Arsenal fans were to become a corporate entity that paid for advertising, then we would be treated like royalty, but we are all individuals (I’m not).

Gazidis – Wenger will spend Arsenal’s money wisely…..if he wants! 60

Posted on November 27, 2012 by admin

The Arsenal Chief Exec Ivan Gazidis has been happily announcing new sponsorship deals which (he says) will put the Gunners amongst the “top five clubs in the world” in terms of revenue, but with Arsenal fans clamouring for all that cash to be spent on building a trophy-winning side, Gazidis has made it clear that any transfer decisions are made entirely by Arsene Wenger and not the board.

“I think we will be able to be more financially competitive and that will enable us to push forward on the field,” Ivan Gsaid. “We can pay bigger salaries and I think we can invest more in transfer fees. How we make those decisions will be based on a manager whose judgment, over the years, has been shown to be outstanding. There’s nobody I would like to be thinking about those types of decision more than Arsène Wenger.

Wenger must make the most of new Arsenal income! 76

Arsenal are finally getting money in from the big sponsorship deals but will they spend it? by KJ

Arsenal have announced today that they have agreed a deal with Emirates to a 5 year sponsorship that is worth £150 million. To those not very good at Math, that’s £30 million a year until 2019 – the biggest shirt sponsorship deal currently in world football. This however will eventually be eclipsed by Man Utd’s ridiculous £50m a year deal from Cheverolet. Some may not be happy that we are earning significantly less but they are a superpower in world football and can command such deals. We on the other hand have been 7 years trophy-less because of the Emirates stadium and hopefully, this deal will start a new era for the club.

Risk vs. Reward-Have Arsenal got it Wrong? 60

Posted on November 16, 2012 by Bob

Arsenal fans heard again this week from the chief executive Ivan Gazidis about what a good financial model Arsenal have and how we are going to be able to challenge the big spending clubs any minute now. A couple of recent stories have made me question the wisdom of this approach and wonder whether Arsenal are in danger of falling too far behind clubs like Chelsea, Man City and Man United.
