Wigan 0 – 1 Arsenal. A gritty win that will be vital at the end of the season by KJ

Today’s game was a very odd match. On paper and on form, it looked like another thrashing was going to be dished out by Arsenal but in the end, we were lucky to get the win. However, it’s well known that winning when you’re playing terribly is what champions are made off.

The Arsenal winger cum striker Gervinho managed to score his fourth goal of the season against Chelsea this weekend, but couldn’t stop the Gunners losing their undefeated record this season. Chelsea are on record as being the reigning Champions eague winners (and FA Cup winners) so there is no great disgrace in losing to such an accomplished team, but also thinks that with luck the Gunners could have won it.

It’s a big disappointment,”Gervinho said on Arsenal.com. “These games against opponents for the title, we can’t afford to lose them, especially at home. They count a lot in a season.

Arsenal only managed to win 1-0 over Everton this weekend and it was thanks to the usual Van Persie winning goal, but the Dutchman was not happy with his own performance and thought that his finish was just lucky!

He said: “It wasn’t a great game in my opinion, especially from myself as too often I had touches which did not go the way I wanted,”

“I’m not really happy with that, with my own performance, but pleased with the win.”

“It was a great pass again from Alex Song, unbelievable. He is a defensive midfielder, but the amount of skill he has is just a dream. A great pass from him.

Arshavin – We were lucky and unlucky, but the fans were great! 8

Posted on September 20, 2010 by admin

The little Russian striker Andrei Arshavin has been musing on the strange game at Sunderland on Saturday, and says that although the Arsenal fans won’t be happy with the final result, they should “understand that our victories are ahead”.

“Today we had, as expected, a difficult match.” he said. “Our opponent played well, but I think our defence courageously coped with their attacks and pressure at our gate.

“It was especially hard for the guys after Song was sent off the pitch. On the one hand, we can say that luck was on our side at the very beginning of the game – we scored. On the other hand, it turned away from us later – we didn’t manage to score a penalty and missed an unfortunate goal at the very end. It was a very unpleasant moment.
