Arsenal’s lack of centre-backs was highlighted yet again when newboy Laurent Koscielny was sent off against Liverpool last Sunday, and it has been assumed that either the inexperienced Havard Nordtveit would be thrown into the fray against Blackpool, or Alex Song would be played out of position as cover.
But today’s Telegraph has reported that Johan Djourou is in line for his first Premiership start for over a year after recovering from a “minor hamstring injury” sustained in the Emirates Cup match against Celtic. The Arsenal and Switzerland defender Johan Djourou has been sidelined since suffering a knee injury while on international duty last August, but feels that his recovery is going well and he could be back in training in as little as six weeks time.
“The injury is coming along very well,” Djourou said. “I’m very happy to actually maybe see the end of the tunnel now because it has been a rough route, it has been very hard with ups and downs.
