Arsene Wenger has sprung to Manuel Almunia’s defence after the Spaniard has been blamed for Arsenal’s defensive problems in the last couple of games, but especially in the defeat against Man Utd.
He thinks that Almunia is being made a scapegoat, and he says that if he really thought he was to blame then he would have no problem in sacking him.
“I am not afraid to make a tough decision,” he says. “My only target is to make the right decision for the club. But after a game like Sunday we have to believe in our players rather than change half of the team. Almunia has done very well recently. The Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia said that not all the Hull players were trying to be agressive in the very unfriendly match at the weekend, but he particularly picked out Stephen Hunt as a “nasty player”.

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger does not accept that Manuel Almunia was to blame for Dirk Kuyt’s opening goal at Anfield on Sunday, and insists he will still retain his place as Arsenal’s Number One.
“I have watched the game against Liverpool well,” said the manager.
“The ball was deflected by Lucas and I did not see that during that game.
“Almunia came and Lucas touched the ball with his head and deflected the ball.

The Arsenal reserve goalkeeper Lukasz fabianski had an excellent game for the Young Gunners in the 1-0 defeat at Olympiakos last night, and now thinks that he is ready to take over as Number One in the senior team.
