Montpellier ready to throw everything at Arsenal 19

Posted on September 18, 2012 by Bob

Montpellier have had a terrible start to their defence of the first French title in the club’s history, losing three of the first five. This has caused mass optimism in the Arsenal ranks but we should be wary of the French champions on their home soil tonight.

Many in the football press are attributing Montpellier’s poor league form to the fact that they are concentrating on tonight’s game. Not only is it their first ever match in the champion’s league, but Arsenal are the biggest name they have ever faced. Along with the history of the Gunners is the French connection with Arsene Wenger and a host of players such as Thierry Henry, Pires, Viera, Petit et al.

M’Biwa rejected Arsenal bid by TS

A report has been released today stating that Arsenal target, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, would rather play in Serie A than for the Gunners. The Montpellier defender and captain claims he turned down an “important offer” from Arsenal in the summer for the chance to play for AC Milan. It’s no secret  Arsene Wenger targeted the player  last month but new information about the potential Arsenal signing has revealed that the player did not have any interest playing in England.

The player had this to say about the matter, ‘Wenger was keen on the subject but I’d rather play in Italy.’

Arsene Wenger made no changes to Arsenal’s defensive line-up during the summer transfer window, but it is beginning to emerge that they had made approaches to certain players in that position that didn’t come off. Yesterday the Montpellier captain, Mapou Yanga M’Biwa, told the world that he had been approached by Arsenal, and now today we have another confession of contact from a defender.

The Senegal and Anderlecht youngster Chiekhou Kouyate told ESPN yesterday: “The fans of Anderlecht asked me to stay for the club and they showed me their appreciation,” Kouyate said.

No Mapou Yanga M’Biwa for Arsenal

There was heavy interest by Arsenal for the Montpellier defender, Mapou Yanga M’Biwa as the window drew to a close. His versatility and youth was probably one of the most attractive factors to Wenger. However, it looks extremely unlikely that Wenger will get his man with M’Biwa’s latest quotes: “The chairman told me I have an agreement to leave.

“AC Milan came for me. But the chairman refused the offer. So I understood it would be difficult.

“Arsenal came to make an attempt. But I was focused on something else [AC Milan]. I was disappointed when I understood it could not be sorted out with Milan.

Wenger is not giving anything away! by KJ

Today Wenger just finished him press conference and he hasn’t given anything away.

Here’s his dialogue regarding incoming players, as reported by Arsenal.com
“We have enough [players], that is for sure, but you always want to improve your squad and if we find a top, top, top player we will do it,” he said.

“We are working very, very hard. We have resources available so if it is not happening now it will happen in December.

“We are active but we do not just want to bring average players in. If we find a special player who can find us a plus we will do it, if not we will not do it.

Arsenal Rumours Aug 28th – Bendtner, Chamakh, Isco, Mbiwa, Afellay and Cabaye 101

Posted on August 28, 2012 by admin

There are loads of Arsenal transfer rumours popping up as we enter the last few days of the transfer window, and today is no different. Come on Arsene, we’re all waiting for that “special player” you’ve promised us last week!

Well first of all let’s get one outgoing player out of the way, as the Mail reports that Nicklas Bendtner is now being looked at by Juventus as the Old Lady seems to have failed in their bid to get Llorente. The bad news is that the price being quoted (or offered) is only £5million. As much as we don’t want the Greatest Striker In The World back at Arsenal, I really think he should be worth more than that after his performances at the Euros this summer……

Arsenal face competition for French defender 123

Posted on August 27, 2012 by Bob

Mapou Yanga-M’Biwa, the 23-year old Montpellier defender is currently the man most likely to join Arsenal if the rumour mill is to be believed. If he is in the sights of Arsene Wenger, however, he may be harder to acquire than first thought. With only a year of his contract with the French champions left, M’Biwa would be available at a very reasonable fee of around £7 million.

The problem that Arsenal could face is competition for his signature. Metro reports that Chelsea and Manchester City were, along with Arsenal, in France to watch the player at the weekend. Both Roberto Mancini and Roberto Di Matteo are keen to strengthen their defences, although Chelsea have already bought a new right back this summer.

Arsenal set their sights on Mbiwa by TS

Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa remains a top target for Arsenal and AW as we look to strengthen our defense. The player, who is also captain for Montpellier, has a contract which runs out at the end of the season. The club is reportedly willing to let go of the player for a fee close to the £8m mark – which for his talent and ability is frankly an outright steal.

Arsenal still aiming for two more players – but who are they? 67

Wenger is still after two players! by KJ

Yesterday, Arsenal’s official website published an interview with Mr.Wenger himself talking about our transfers.

“We are looking to bring one more midfielder in of course, and maybe one defender as well because we still feel we are short in some positions,”

This is some very interesting and unusual news. It’s not like Wenger at all to reveal the targets he’s looking at. Maybe he feels slightly under pressure from the fans expectations and has to give them a slight glimmer of hope… I don’t really know.

However, who are these two players?

Yanga M’Biwa: The Pros and the Cons: by SV

Yesterday, I read a comment from @Wentworth requesting from Admin an analysis of Montpellier centre-back Mapou Yanga-M’Biwa. This was, I thought, a great idea as M’Biwa is an underexposed, talented player who seems to fit the bill perfectly for Arsenal. This article will focus on him, and what are the pros and cons of signing the Frenchman.

Arsenal get good and bad news on Djourou replacement 46

Posted on June 01, 2012 by admin

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has just captained the French minnows Montpellier to the French Ligue 1 title, beating super rich Qatari owned Paris Saint Germain by three points. The 23-year old central defender has been an almost ever present for Montpellier since he was promoted from the youth side in 2007, aged 18.

Arsene Wenger has targeted the player as an ideal addition to the Emirates dressing room. We would then have four quality centre backs, and Djourou could be allowed to move on. It looks like we will not get him cheap, however, as Talksport reports that Napoli are interested in him and this will increase Montpellier’s bargaining power.

Would Wenger pay £20m for Mamadou Sakho? 37

Posted on May 02, 2011 by admin

It is being reported today that Arsenal’s bid for the Paris Saint-Germain defender Mamadou Sakho is in balance after the French Ligue 1 side placed a £20 million pound valuation on the player. Arsene Wenger has been an admirer of the player for some time now but could be put off by the high price that PSG want.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool is also interested in Sakho and their sporting director Damien Comolli has been following the defender for some time and they are believed to have offered £13m to PSG.
