Arsenal to make shock move for England keeper? 30

The latest rumour in the Arsenal goalkeeper situation by SS

There is an Arsenal transfer rumour going around that Arsene Wenger could be ready to make a surprise bid for Reading’s Alex McCarthy who has earned his first ever call up to the England squad this week. McCarthy would not become the top goalkeeper at the club but would instead be used as emergency cover and loaned out to other clubs with a recall option, similar to the arrangement Fulham have with David Stockdale.

Wenger is expecting Lukasz Fabianski and Vito Mannone to leave the club this summer and he has even been looking for somebody to possibly replace the current keeper Wojciech Szczesny, according to media speculation.

Is McCarthy the answer for Arsenal in midfield? 61

Wigan star set for Arsenal by SS

Arsenal are apparently preparing an early summer bid for Wigan midfielder James McCarthy. The young midfielder has been in good form this season and continued to grow as a player as he has done since his arrival at Wigan.

He was the subject of bids from many top English clubs when he was younger but he chose to move to Wigan in the hope that he wouldn’t be left in the reserves until his early 20′s. He made the right choice to move to Wigan because he has had plenty of game time in the last few seasons and has been an architect of Wigan’s famous end of season survivals.

Arsenal face battle with Everton for Wigan’s McCarthy! 37

Reports this week have suggested that Arsene Wenger has identified the player he wants to add to the Arsenal midfield as James McCarthy from Wigan Athletic. The transfer might not be as easy as Wenger first hoped, however, as Everton may also soon be chasing the 22-year old Irish international as a replacement for Marouane Fellaini, according to the Daily Star.

David Moyes does not want to sell his Belgian midfielder, but the Toffees’ financial situation means that they cannot afford to turn down big money for their players. Plus, there is a release clause of over £25 million in Fellaini’s contract and if a club offers that to Everton, then Moyes would be helpless.

Do we need James McCarthy? by KJ

It’s clear as day that Wenger needs a new central midfielder. We’ve only got 3 proper first team midfielders at the moment and they seem hopeless together. We’ve also got another extremely talented one but he’s a crock, constantly stuck on the injury table. As a result, Wenger has been perusing the market for the answer and the reports indicate that Wigan’s James McCarthy (valued at £8 million) is Arsenal’s answer.

Arsenal transfer rumours McCarthy and Wanyama 117

Posted on January 06, 2013 by Bob

Arsenal are planning bids for two midfielders, if the rumours are true. Victor Wanyama from Celtic has been watched by scouts from the Gunners, and was linked with a possible transfer in the summer. Celtic are keen to hold on to the talented and powerful young player, especially as they are through to the next round of the champions league against Juventus. The Scottish champions value Wanyama at well over £10 million.

Neil Lennon may have to prepare for a bid from Arsenal, though, after rumours began circulating that Arsenal were ready to make a move. Wanyama has previously spoken about a move to the Premier league and the Gunners need just that sort of player to add strength to the skill at the Emirates. It is just a rumour, and we are constantly linked with players.

Arsenal transfer rumours April 4th – Rodallega, McCarthy and Chamakh (groan!) 11

Posted on April 04, 2010 by admin

It wouldn’t be Sunday without there being a few bits of Arsenal transfer news in the papers, and it seems every week there is another report about Marouane Chamakh. This time the Mail has categorically stated that the Bordeaux hitman has signed a four year deal with the Gunners worth £12m. I wish Arsenal would make an official announcement on this one, because all this endless speculation is becoming a bit tedious now!

The other two main rumours of the day concern Wigan players for some reason. The young Scot James McCarthy has been linked with an Arsenal move for some time now, but he has said today that, although flattered to be linked with bigger clubs, he doesn’t want to move on from Wigan so quickly after only arriving last summer.
