Arsenal Debate – Reina or Cesar?

The goalkeeping situation at Arsenal is fairly complicated at the minute but, after last season’s problems, many experts and Arsenal fans feel that Arsene Wenger will be looking to sign a new keeper this summer. But who should it be? There have been rumours linking the Gunners with all sorts of names, but I am going to stick with the two most likely candidates for the job, Julio Cesar and Pepe Reina.

If we can believe the rumours, Liverpool are about to sign Mignolet from Sunderland and he would be their starting goalkeeper. That would leave Reina on the bench, unless he goes to Barcelona. So, should we try to sign him, rather than Cesar, as competition and mentor for Wojciech Szczesny ?

Mannone set to leave Arsenal?

Mannone on his way out!

Arsenal could be set to lose yet another player listed as deadwood this summer with Vito Mannone being lined up by Sunderland as a possible replacement for Simon Mignolet.

Have Arsenal reignited Mignolet transfer interest?

Arsenal given hope on goalkeeping target! by AH

With talk of Julio Cesar’s potential move to Arsenal going quiet, it seems to suggest that perhaps talks weren’t as advanced as we may have believed. According to reports Arsenal had agreed personal terms with the QPR goalkeeper and that a fee would soon be agreed. It was believed to be so certain that some bookmakers stopped taking bets on his transfer.

Mignolet denies any Arsenal transfer contact

Arsene Wenger is probably going to want to get the Arsenal transfer business done as soon as possible this summer. With a stable squad and team going in to next season high on confidence from the end of the last campaign, and with a decent amount of money to spend this summer, the boss will have high hopes that his Gunners can finally mount a really serious challenge on the Premier League title.

Will new Arsenal keeper spoil Szczesny’s progress?

Should Arsenal really be looking at another keeper? by AH

Arsenal’s goalkeeping position seems to be a topic regularly spoken about and perhaps this is because, admittedly, none of us are too sure on how we feel about Wojciech Szczseny at the club. In my opinion I think he’s a good goalkeeper that still has a lot of time to show his full potential and develop into one of the world’s best for the next generation, however I’m not sure if I’m absolutely confident in him being Arsenal’s number one goalkeeper at the moment.

Have Gunners set their sights on Sunderland stopper?

In another strange twist in the Arsenal goalkeeper situation, the club is now reported to have made a bid for Sunderland’s Belgian keeper Simon Mignolet. Mignolet is just about the one hundredth keeper to be linked with the club in the last few weeks.

In my personal opinion Arsenal are wasting their time by looking for a new goalkeeper so relentlessly, because Szczesny is a good keeper who can only get better the more he plays at the club.

Arsenal have offered around £10 Million for the Sunderland and Belgium stopper, which is more than they offered for Portuguese keeper Rui Patricio just last week who was thought to be available on the cheap.

Arsenal in transfer link with yet another keeper

We don’t know for sure that Arsenal are definitely looking to sign another keeper this summer, but it seems fairly likely, with the problems there have been with Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski over the last few years. I really hope that Arsene Wenger has got a clear idea of who he wants to bring in, even if it is between a few keepers, because according to the media he has about 39 different possibilities.

Szczesny has made transfer window easier for Arsenal and wound up AVB!

All of the Arsenal fans love Wojciech Szczesny and most of us think he has the abilty and potential to be one of the best keepers in the world. Up until a few weeks ago, though, his future at Arsenal looked uncertain after his form tailed off dramatically in a season to forget for the Polish international.

It looked like Arsene Wenger would have to spend at least £10 million of his summer transfer budget on a new number one and there was speculation that Szczesny would leave the club after seven years. Since then, though, he has done everything right, starting with completely distancing himself from his father’s comments about Arsenal and the French manager.

Arsenal Keeper rumours are getting silly!!

Is there any keeper who hasn’t yet been linked with Arsenal? by FD

It must be dispiriting if you’re a current professional goalkeeper and your name hasn’t been linked with a summer move to the Emirates. But you shouldn’t get too down. It’s still only May.

Today’s news that Swansea’s Michel Vorm is a possible Arsenal target means we could almost field a team of keepers from the names of contenders for that Number 1 jersey.

Before Vorm, we’ve had speculation linking us with Asmir Begovic, Victor Valdes, Julio Cesar, Iker Casillas, Rene Adler, Simon Mignolet, Federico Marchetti, Pepe Reina and even Petr Cech!

Will Arsenal turn to `new Lehmann` in keeper hunt?

Wojciech Szczesny may have the next four games of the Premier League to prove himself once again at Arsenal but, even if he produces four faultless displays, it is still likely that Arsene Wenger will bring in a new keeper in the summer. This season has proved that the Polish international needs to be pushed for his place to keep him on his toes.

Arsenal to replace Szczesny with Sunderland stopper?

The Polish international and Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny has certainly not had a good year and it may be on the verge of getting a whole lot worse. The Gunners have been linked with a number of keepers, including Pepe Reina and Victor Valdes. It was thought that an older experienced keeper would be brought in to challenge Szczesny and provide cover while being a role model for the 22-year old.

Arsenal Debate – Julio Cesar, Asmir Begovic or Simon Mignolet?

The amount of Arsenal rumours concerning goalkeepers, coupled with Wojciech Szczesny’s demotion to the reserves, seems to confirm that the Gunners are definitely looking for a new shotstopper this summer.

Most of these rumours seem to point to either Stoke’s Asmir Begovic, Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet or QPR’s Julio Cesar. There has also been many mentions of the Real Madrid veteran Iker Casillas, but as he has no experience of playing in the Premier League I am more likely to believe that Wenger would prefer one of the other three.
