Posted on March 10, 2013 by Bob

There have been reports linking Arsenal with a number of strikers around Europe, and it seems clear that the club’s scouts are working overtime to draw up a list of transfer targets for the summer. Arsene Wenger is believed to have around £70 million available to splash out on some quality for the team, but that does not mean that he will not still try to sniff out a bargain or two.

There is a piece in today’s Metro about the former Gunner Gilles Grimandi compiling a report on the 23-year old Saint-Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Grimandi was apparently present at his latest match on Friday night, during which he scored his 16th league goal of the season in a 2-2 draw with Ligue 1 rivals Rennes. His skills have led to him being called the African Neymar.

The South Korean has been extremely impressive at the Olympics and scored the final penalty that knocked out Team GB in the penalty shoot-out, but had already come to the attention of many top Premiership clubs for his excellent form at Celtic in the last couple of years.

It is being reported this morning that Arsene Wenger has got his scouts out in force ahead of the January transfer window, and they have been revealing their targets to the Daily Mail.

Of course Wenger’s main aim is to find a striker to cover for Gervinho and Chamakh, and the scouts will be in Germany to watch Lukas Podolski on Friday as Koln take on the prolific striker’s old team Bayern Munich. Podolski has already scored 14 goals in 15 games for Koln and has indicated that he would be keen to move away from Germany in the transfer window.

Arsenal watching big Dutch defender 11

Despite Arsenal signing Sebastien Squillaci and Laurent Koscielny last summer, it seems that Arsene Wenger has set his sights on yet another big defender for the next transfer window.

The Arsenal scout Steve Rowley was in Holland to watch Feyenoord’s game against Den Haag this weekend, and although it is obvious that he would want to keep an eye on the new Japanese sensation Ryo Miyaichi who is there on loan, it has also been reported that Rowley was checking on the big Feyenoord defender Stefan de Vrij.
