Why Cavani alone couldn’t save Arsenal’s season…… 85

Why I won’t be happy even if Arsenal buys Cavani by Twig

For many fans, splashing big in January on players like Cavani, Falcao or Gotze is the tonic that Arsenal just needs to challenge the Manchester clubs. However, looking at proceedings at London Colney in recent years, I firmly believe that our problems are deeper than expensive signings. Here are some reasons why feel even buying Cavani wouldn’t bring us out of our current rot.

1. Playing players out of position
Bendtner ‘enjoyed’ long spells playing out of position on the right wing. Podolski who must have relished stepping into RVP’s shoes, inexplicably found himself on the left wing, while watching Wenger experiment with Gervinho as a Centre Forward. Ramsey, a central midfielder, has been deputizing for Walcott on the right wing all season.

Could we really buy Nani? – By SB

Is it time we have to resort to a Man Utd outcast to save our sinking season? Is Nani the answer for Arsenal? Granted he has his “off” days, but he could be the spark Arsenal needs (along with a few more additions) to resurrect our season. If the “out of touch” board have any decency left, they will grant Arsene Wenger a large sum of money to strengthen the depthless Gunners.

Arsenal Debate: Could this be Abou Diaby’s season? YES! 34

New season by SV

Yes, we have lost RVP. Yes, we are (most likely) going to lose Song. But the general mood among the Arsenal fans is still much better than I have seen in many years. I think that most fans recognize that we have handled the transfer window terrifically considering the circumstances (Song playing up, RVP wanting to leave and only one club putting in a respectable offer).

Wenger excited but wants to win trophies ‘The Arsenal Way’ 72

Posted on August 10, 2012 by admin

Arsene Wenger has paved the way for three World-Class players to arrive at Arsenal this summer, and he thinks that the Gunners are in a good position to be ‘the surprise of the season’ this time around, after having a turbulent time in the previous 12 months.

“I find the situation very exciting.” Wenger said. “I was very, very worried last year for a long part of the season and very anxious for a long time because we faced such a tough competition.

“Now I am excited because we have learned from last year, we have a new start and a new opportunity.

Arsenal MUST win a domestic Cup this season at least 53

What Are Our Chances? by AH

So we now have three new quality players added to our first team, and with no starting XI players leaving (yet!), our squad is considerably stronger than last season. But what else do we need to do? What other positions do we need to strengthen in?

In my opinion we now have a good, strong team, with a lot of depth and I think we are in with a chance of winning some silverware. In no way do I think we will win the Premier League, (and no doubt I will get some hate for saying that) but I do think we could win a Capital Cup or FA Cup.

Arsenal’s preseason starts today – Let the show begin! 77

Preseason training starts “Properly” today with RVP being the main attraction! by KJ

Monday will be the first day of preseason with the new additions to the squad. The players that were currently missing are: Szczesny, Fabianski, Rosicky, Arshavin, Van Persie, Bendtner, Podolski, Mertesacker, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Koscielny and Giroud.

That’s quite a lot of players that were out for the Euros and it will be refreshing to have them back at the club; especially the new additions. For the majority of them, the morale should be fine. However, Van Persie will definitely be in a dark place with not only Holland crashing out of the Euros in a dramatic fashion, but also on the back of a statement that essentially labelled his fellow team mates useless.

Amazing, Truly Inspiring Video – by JG

This will be brief…compared to that last post (haha)

I have attached a video below, an amazing video, so well made. If you watch this video and don’t get the chills or still feel like spouting off hateful remarks then there is something horribly wrong with you as a human being.

It’s a video that lays out in a collage of clips, the past season we had to endure, displaying the heartbreaks, the torment, and eventually the rise and the fighting back of our beloved club.

Arsenal threw away this season last summer – Will Wenger make same mistakes again? 138

A deal with the devil by Richard B

I’ve always felt it’s all too easy to look at things in isolation. After all, whether it is the most relevant or critical one, it is often the most recent memory that sticks in the mind and affects our emotions and judgement the most. Maintaining a balanced outlook is never easy, especially when it comes down to supporting your club. And yet, once the season is done and dusted, it gives us a chance to look back over the campaign to take stock and see if we really did do as well, or badly, as we thought. After all, one of the most pivotal moments in our season, the departure of Fabregas, and the failure to sign a suitable replacement, happened before the first ball was even kicked. This was followed up by Nasri, with barely half a good season to his name but with obvious talent, leaving when we only had a single point to our name after 3 games.

Arsenal Season Review – Strikers – More than enough competition? 53

Analysing the attackers: by SV

Over the past week, we have taken a look at our defensive and midfield units. Today, I shall focus on our attackers. As you will, no doubt, be aware, we play a 4-3-3. That’s four defenders, three central midfielders and then three strikers. And it is important to remember that the front three are exactly that: strikers, not wingers. Players like Gervinho and especially Theo Walcott are strikers and as such like to do more cutting in and less running to the by line to cross. Of course, the position is flexible and different players use it slightly differently. Benayoun, for example, used to cut inside a bit deeper and help out in the midfield, while the Ox really does play like a winger when he is out there. But all in all, we play with three strikers: one central and two wider ones. Anyway, let’s take a closer look at our personnel.

Arsenal Season Review – Midfielders – Strong but lacking maturity? 59

Midfield Analysis: by SV

Yesterday, we looked at Arsenal’s defence. I suggested that we needed one versatile defender who could play centre-back and in one of the full back positions. Others disagreed. Anyway, today I want to look at the midfield. As expected, our midfield didn’t exactly set the League alight this season, with a touch of spark and creativity lacking for a large part of it. This is to be expected with the departure of one Cesc Fabregas. People never fail to underestimate just how important the ex-El Capitan was to us; did you know he created the most clear cut chances out of anyone in the world? We were always going to miss him. But let’s move on and focus on what we do have at our disposal; I’m looking here at the central midfielder only, and I’ll divide them into defensive players and attacking players.

Season’s Highs: by SV

A couple of days ago, I wrote an article which showed what I thought were the lowest points of this rollercoaster season of ours. The 8-2 loss made the list, but so did surprisingly the 3-3 against Norwich. Anyway, today I’m leaving the lows behind and focusing on the highs which the season has brought:

Arsenal Season Review – The Defence – Lack of Depth? 45

Posted on May 17, 2012 by admin

Defence Overview: by SV

The season has now finished and the transfer window will open on the first of June. We already know that Lukas Podolski is on his way to Arsenal, but we also know that we are still a few key signings away from challenging once again for England and Europe’s top honours. I think that before we decide who these signings are going to be, we need to look at exactly what areas need strengthening the most.

This is first article in a series in which analyses each of our defenders, then midfielders and then attackers. Today, we’ll start with the defence; the articles a bit of a monster and I was thinking about dividing it into two parts, but I couldn’t really find a good place to split it.
