Arsene Wenger revealed before the transfer window that he was looking to raid the Spanish market for “bargains” due to the financial difficulties suffered by clubs in La Liga (e.g. Malaga!), but in the meantime Newcastle have been concentrating on Wenger’s traditional hunting ground, France, and have come away with some excellent buys.
It was revealed that just this week, everyone in France thought that Montpellier’s Yanga M’Biwa was on his way to the Arsenal before he went to Newcastle at the last minute, and along with Lille’s Mathieu Debuchy, Toulouse’s Moussa Sissoko, Nancy’s Massadio Haïdara and Bordeaux’s Yoan Gouffran, Alan Pardew has severely strengthened his Toon squad for a combined price of just £18m, with £7m being recouped by the sale of Demba Ba to Chelsea. .......Read the full article here

There were a lot of names being linked with a transfer to Arsenal last month, too many to list here, and quite a high proportion of them were defensive midfielders. The Spanish international left back Nacho Monreal was the only new addition for the Gunners, though, which surprised many people who thought that a strong midfield warrior was top of the list for Arsene Wenger.
Right up until the transfer window closed on Thursday night, there were rumours that Mohamed Diame would be a last minute transfer from West Ham to Arsenal, but Wenger must have decided he was not the right player. The boss did not want to bring anyone in, and it seems now that he had his eyes on someone else, the France and Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue. .......Read the full article here

It is no secret that Arsene Wenger intends to add to his Arsenal squad in January, and a combative midfielder is one of the most important roles for him to fill. Two new names seem to have found themselves on the list of possible signings according to newspaper reports.
20-year old Ghanaian Afriye Acquah is currently playing for the Serie A side Parma, and is being called the new Michael Essien. According to the Sun, Arsenal are preparing a bid of around £8 million for the player, but that seems a bit steep, especially considering that his owner club, Palermo, loaned him out to Italian league rivals this summer. I would expect Wenger to go for a player who has much more experience. .......Read the full article here

Today’s roundup of the Arsenal transfer news doesn’t throw up many new names in the frame, but at least Gael Clichy has quickly moved to quash any discussion of him moving to La Liga in the near future.
Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have been reported as taking an interest in the French defender, but he said yesterday that he intends to honour his contract at the Emirates.
“It is great that these teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid are looking at me,” Clichy said. “They are great teams as everyone knows but all I want to say is that I am focused on the end of the season. I want to win something here. I have two years left on my contract so it is not a question to answer.” .......Read the full article here

Even though the transfer window is now closed, the media is still urging Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to strengthen the team. It is being reported everywhere that Wenger is “keeping tabs” on Toulouse’s Moussa Sissoko.
Reports in the Corriere dello Sport claim the Gunners are interested in Toulouse midfielder Sissoko, but the Italian newspaper also suggests Manchester United are interested.
Earlier this summer, it was reported that Tottenham Hotspur had an offer of £14million rejected for the 20-year-old, which gives an indication as to how much his employers rate him (From Fansfc). .......Read the full article here
