A new keeper to challenge the current Arsenal number one, Wojciech Szczesny is one of the transfer targets on Arsene Wenger’s January shopping list. After being linked with a number of older players, such as Pepe Reina from Liverpool, the Prof seems to have gone the other way as he is preparing a bid for the 19-year old stopper from Birmingham City, Jack Butland.
If the report in the Daily Star is accurate, Birmingham will be willing to sell their star asset because of financial restraints, and Arsenal think a bid of around £6 million will be enough to make Butland a Gunner. This would mean that Wenger is not just looking for an understudy to keep the Polish international on his toes, but is looking to the future. .......Read the full article here

One of the revelations of the season so far, and there have been a few for Arsenal fans, has been the return to form of the 21-year old midfielder Aaron Ramsey. We have probably all been a little guilty of impatience when it comes to the Welsh captain, but maybe he is the victim of his own previous success. The Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has admitted often enough that his form dipped terribly in the second half of last season, but injuries seemed to force Arsene Wenger to remain faithful and keep picking him despite the lack of confidence from the Welsh captain.
Arsenal fans were also well aware that Ramsey was well below his best and often complained about why Wenger kept putting him in the team after some glaring errors could have lost the Gunners points towards the crucial end of season run-in. Now that Jack Wilshere has been ruled out of joining Team GB’s Olympic team, it looks like Arsenal will have five current Gunners going to play at the Olympics in August.
Arsene Wenger has already said that the Olympics could play havoc with Arsenal’s pre-season, and now that Aaron Ramsey and Kieran Gibbs are set to join up with Team GB Wenger will have to worry about either of them suffering from injury at the tournament.
