Arsenal were linked with David Villa weeks ago, and may even have had a bid turned down by Barcelona. The Spanish giants have declared that Villa is a vital member of the squad and they need him for the rest of the season, but something is not right. Stories hit the papers that the 31-year old striker was pushing for the transfer to Arsenal, because what the club was saying was not reflected in the reality of his situation.

It is believed that Arsenal will return to Barcelona with an offer in the last days of the transfer window. Whether the club agrees to the sale or not could be determined by whether they have persuaded Villa to stick with it. Arsenal have spoken to Barcelona and tried to persuade them to sell David Villa this January, and the Spanish international is keen on the move, but the Barcelona president has squashed the transfer and told the media so in no uncertain terms. Sandro Rosell has made his mind up and told the Catalan radio station RAC.

There have been a number of clubs, including Arsenal, keeping a very close eye on the situation involving Cristian Tello at Barcelona. The player and club have been struggling to reach an agreement over his new contract. The 21-year old has been impressive for the Catalan side this season and some of Europe’s top clubs were hoping that lack of regular football might persuade him to move on.

Tello has agreed the terms of a new contract this week, that will keep him at Barcelona until 2016. The signing is expected to take place next week, according to Spanish newspaper AS. Barcelona have been trying to get Cristian Tello to sign a new contract since last summer, apparently, but the 21-year old has still not signed. The situation has come to the attention of Arsenal and Liverpool who are now thinking about the January transfer window when Tello will be free to negotiate with other clubs before his current contract runs out next summer.

Tello spent six years in the youth system at Barcelona before his contract expired and he was signed by Espanyol in 2008. He soon returned to the B team at Barcelona and has now broken through into the first team with some impressive performances. So, swiftly moving on, it seems that Alex Song is the man that Barcelona want above of Van Persie and Gerard Piquet is the latest to join the list of Barca stars to ‘happen to mention’ that Song would be a good addition to the side.
